GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT 59E59 THEATERS Where is the play on? The play is being performed at 59E59 Theaters. This building is on 59th street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue in Manhattan. Here is a picture of the front entrance.
When you enter the foyer, there is a desk where there will be a member of staff who can help you and answer any questions you might have.
You will wait in line to pick up or purchase your ticket at the Box Office.
Once you have collected your ticket, you can go up to Theater C,
which is where AGNES will be performed. To get to Theater C from the Box Office, you can either take the elevator (located to the left of the Box Office) or the stairs (located directly across the Box Office).
If taking the stairs, you will walk passed the E:Bar located one floor up from the Box Office. To get to Theater C, continue upstairs for one more floor, and you will see signs for Theaters B & C. If you are taking the elevator, press 2.
When you are exiting the elevator make a left. You will see an usher wearing a blue shirt who will guide you to Theater C, which is located at the end of the hallway. This is what the entrance of Theater C looks like.
This is what the inside of Theater C looks like. These are the seats in the auditorium where the audience sit during the play. Your ticket will have information printed on it which will tell you which seat is yours in the theater. An usher in the theater will show you where your seat is located. This is what the stage looks like from the seats. Seating lines the stage on two sides.
AGNES Visual/Narrative Guide
Thank you for coming to see AGNES! We’re very excited to share our show with you! AGNES is about a group of friends who stay overnight in an apartment while a hurricane named AGNES goes through their city. They connect with each other as they talk about and work through their relationships, feelings towards each other, and ways they treated each other in the past. There are five main characters.
Characters
Charlie is a man who lives with his sister, June, in the apartment where the play takes place. He has Asperger’s. He is a sweet, thoughtful person who values his privacy. When the play starts, he has gotten back from a secret trip across the country. He is played by Jonathan Edgar Barker.
June is Charlie’s sister, and also lives in the apartment. She is strong, confident, and likeable. She has taken care of Charlie for a long time. Her girlfriend is Elle. She is played by Laura Ramadei.
Elle is June’s girlfriend. She is studying to go to medical school. She’s likeable, funny, and a little feisty. She wants to move to Philadelphia with June and has been talking about it with her since before the story begins. She is played by Mykal Monroe.
Ronan is a friend of June, Elle and Charlie. He is excitable, lovable, and kind. He’s a bit of a “bro.” He is staying the apartment with everyone during the hurricane. He has recently broken up with his girlfriend, and he invited Anna to stay in the apartment with everyone. He is played by Hiram Delgado.
Anna is an ex-girlfriend of June. She is fun, charming, and can sometimes be guarded. She is invited to stay in the apartment by Ronan, even though she hasn’t seen the people in the apartment in a very long time. She still has feelings for June. She is played by Claire Siebers.
Four of these characters also play “Subjects,” who are people that Charlie has interviewed in the past for a project. There are four times where the actors playing June, Elle, Ronan and Anna will say a short piece from the perspective of these Subjects. Charlie will introduce each of these Subjects by saying “Subject” followed by a number. The other characters in the play do not hear the Subjects, except for the final time. They are used to further explore the ideas and themes of the rest of the play.
The Scenes in the Play
1. Charlie introduces the first Subject, who tells a story about a woman who slept with a married man. She gets caught by his wife. The Subject is worried about how the wife will react, but the wife surprisingly brings her a blanket and is kind instead.
2. In the apartment, Charlie has just arrived home after being away on his secret trip. June is happy to see him and tries to figure out where he has been, but he will not tell her. June is preparing supplies for while the coming hurricane will keep them staying indoors for the night. June’s girlfriend Elle comes in and tells J une that she is spending too much time getting the apartment ready, while also talking about how tough it is for Elle to study for medical school. Then, Ronan comes in. He is excited for everyone to stay together during the storm. However, he surprises everyone by saying that he invited their old friend Anna to stay in the apartment with them during the hurricane. Anna arrives and greets everyone. Everyone catches up with Anna. They decide to play a game and have drinks.
3. Everyone is playing a game while drinking. The game is that one person asks another person a question, and if the second person takes a long time to answer, they must have a drink. They go around and ask each other various questions. Anna starts to ask inappropriate questions, and Elle and June get mad at her. As a result the game ends, and June, Anna and Elle leave the room. Charlie and Ronan are left alone, and decide to play wrestling instead.

J une and Elle are in their bedroom. Elle i s mad about the inappropriate things that Anna said during the game, but June calms Elle down.
5. Charlie and Ronan are play-wrestling in their living room. Charlie asks about dating and women. Ronan gives him advice, until Charlie asks about if he could date Anna. Ronan tries to avoid this topic as he thinks Charlie and Anna being together might cause some conflict with the others.
6. June and Charlie are in his bedroom. June wants to know where Charlie has been on his trip, but he doesn’t want to say anything about it.
7. Charlie introduces a new Subject. The subject talks about a man she had an affair with, and how he taught her about kindness in unexpected places.
8. Charlie talks with Anna while she makes frosting for a cake. They talk about empathy and human connection. June comes in, and Charlie leaves after June asks him to. June and Anna talk about the world and their troubles, and then talk about each other and their history together. As they get closer, Elle comes in after overhearing them yelling. Elle a nd June exit into their bedroom.
9. Elle gets angry at June for the things she talked about with Anna. They have a fight, but it ends with June becoming dominant towards Elle. The scene ends as they begin to have sex.
10. Ronan leaves a voicemail for his ex-girlfriend. After being embarrassed and not sure what to say to her, he hangs up.
11. Charlie and Anna talk more about human connection. Charlie then asks Anna to have sex with him, to show him what it’s like. She at first says no, but is then convinced. As the scene ends they begin to have sex.
12. The next morning, Elle and June and Ronan and chatting in the living room. Charlie and Anna come out of his bedroom, and everyone is surprised. June confronts Charlie, asking about the night he had with Anna.
13. June and Anna go into her room. June i s furious that Anna had sex with Charlie, and demands that she leave the apartment as soon as it is safe outside. Anna leaves and goes to Charlie’s room.
14. Ronan and Elle play monopoly and talk about their relationships.
15. Charlie introduces a Subject. The Subject talks about a child who had a bad first experience with water, and how that could have affected him as he grew up.
16. Anna and Charlie talk. He talks about how he believes they are going to date now, which makes Anna uncomfortable.
17. Ronan talks to June about how he thinks she needs to talk with Elle about their relationship.
18. Two scenes happen back and forth at the same time. In one, Anna says she can’t date C harlie and tries to leave, which Charlie gets mad at. They fight. In the other, June and E lle argue about their future together. Finally, Anna leaves, and Charlie has a breakdown. June tries to calm him down, telling him she loves him more than anything else. Elle hears this and runs out of the room, sad and angry.
19. June follows Elle into their bedroom. Elle demands that June move out of the apartment with her, which June says she can’t do. June leaves the room and Elle.
20. Ronan tries to calm June, and then Elle, down. He exits with Elle. June sits down with Charlie.
21. Charlie introduces a Subject. The Subject talks about when his child was born, and trying to connect with it after his wife died.
22. Charlie tells June about his trip--he went around the country, asking people about their greatest moment of human connection. She offers to tell him her own moment. They connect, and the play ends.
