Dear TGO Community, It is hard to believe October is already here, and we have even had our first minor “cold” front! As everyone begins to return to TGO to enjoy another wonderful season, our Wastewater Treatment Plant team has an important reminder for RV owners. RV holding tank treatments containing any of the following chemicals may not be disposed of in the TGO sewer system: Bronopol, Dowacil, Formaldehyde, Gluteraldehyde, Paraformaldehyde or Para-dichlorobenzene. These chemicals kill the beneficial bacteria our Wastewater Treatment Plant needs to function. Please check the ingredients in your holding tank treatments and avoid products containing these chemicals. Please also avoid treatments containing methyl alcohol, which is harmful to our system. If your holding tanks already contain these chemicals, please empty them at the designated holding tank at the Welcome Center Rally Lot when you arrive, before connecting your RV at your site. Thank you for helping protect TGO’s wastewater system. The Manor Pool Paver project is well underway and making great progress. Crews are continuing installation, and we will share an estimated completion and reopening date as soon as one is available. Please continue to use caution near the work zone around the Manor, tennis courts, and fitness areas, and follow any posted signs or temporary access restrictions. On October 20, the golf course will be closed for maintenance - but the afternoon will bring a special opportunity to explore it. We are hosting guided tours for residents and guests who do not usually get to see the course up close. Enjoy the scenery and discover more of this beautiful part of The Great Outdoors. Tours will run from 2:00 to 4:00pm, departing every 15 minutes. Due to wet conditions on the paths, tours will be by golf cart only. Please sign up at the Pro Shop from October 5 through October 10. On Saturday, October 17, TGO’s Ladies Golf Association will host its 10th Annual Breast Cancer Tournament, with proceeds benefiting the Jess Parrish Medical Foundation. This tournament has brought our community together around a cause that touches so many lives. It is a chance to support those facing breast cancer, honor those we have lost, and stand alongside the families and friends who care for them. I want to thank the Ladies Golf Association for the time, heart, and dedication they put into this event year after year. Thank you as well to everyone who volunteers, sponsors, donates, or plays. Your generosity is what makes this tournament possible and gives it meaning well beyond a day on the golf course. We are proud to support this event and grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another. How Posture Affects Your Backswing Why do some golfers have an upright backswing while others swing on a much flatter plane? Part of the answer can be found before the club ever starts moving: your posture. Thanks to the work and research of renowned instructors Mike Adams and E.A. Tischler, we have a better understanding of how a golfer’s setup and body mechanics can influence the shape of the backswing. If you stand more upright at address, your hands will tend to lift more during the backswing, generally placing the lead arm above the shoulder line at the top. If you set up more bent over, the hands tend to work around the body on a lower path, generally placing the lead arm below the shoulder line. With a neutral posture, the hands lift slightly as they work back, allowing the lead arm to match up more closely with the shoulder line. The important takeaway is that your backswing plane and your setup are connected. Before trying to make your swing more upright or flatter, take a look at your posture. The shape of your backswing may simply be a natural response to how you are positioned at address. Top: Higher hands match an upright posture Bottom: Lower hands match a bent over posture

Election season at TGO begins this October, and once again we are looking for residents willing to step forward and become more involved in the community they call home. Candidates will be needed for positions on both the CSA Board of Directors and the Architectural Review Committee (ARC), along with the selection of new leadership for both groups. These are important positions. The decisions made by our elected representatives help shape the direction of TGO, from community policies and property standards to future improvements and the many issues that come with operating a community as large and diverse as ours. Each year, we hope to see more residents consider becoming candidates. You don’t need to have years of community experience to get involved. What matters is a willingness to learn, listen to your neighbors, contribute your ideas and experience, and devote some of your time to making TGO the best community it can be. If you’ve ever wondered how decisions are made, who is responsible for what, or where you might fit into the process, the following two pages are a good place to start. Individual Condominium & HOA Boards Each of TGO’s individual Condominium Associations and HOA areas elects its own Board of Directors to oversee matters specific to that community. Typically, the Board includes a President, Secretary, Treasurer, and additional At Large Board Members, with the total number determined by each association’s governing documents. The President also represents the association on the TGO Condominium Council. Individual Boards meet throughout the year to discuss issues affecting their particular association, including maintenance needs, improvements, finances, etc.
CSA Board Of Directors The CSA Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of The Great Outdoors Community Services Association. Board members are elected by TGO property owners during the annual election, with each Director representing a specific district. One Director is selected by the Board to serve as Chairman. Each District Director serves a two-year term. Districts are determined by the last digit of a property’s street address. For example, a resident at 324 Plantation Drive would be represented by the Director for District 4. The Board of Directors meets monthly. TGO property owners are encouraged to attend these meetings to stay informed about community business. Residents also have an opportunity to address the Board and ask questions or share concerns during the appropriate portion of the meeting. Administration The day-to-day operation of The Great Outdoors is managed by a professional administrative team working under the direction of the CSA Board of Directors. The General Manager is selected and hired by the Board of Directors following a search, review, and interview process. Once hired, the General Manager works closely with the Chairman and the Board to carry out Board-approved policies, projects, priorities, and other decisions affecting the community. The Community Association Manager (CAM) is also selected through a review and interview process and works closely with the General Manager and Board Chairman in administering the day-to-day operations of TGO and implementing approved policies and procedures. Other administrative and department managers are selected based on their experience, qualifications, and the requirements of the position. These hiring decisions are made through collaboration between the General Manager, CAM Manager and Board Chairman. Once in place, each manager is responsible for overseeing their respective department, including the hiring, supervision, and management of the employees needed to carry out that department’s responsibilities. ARC Committee The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) consists of eleven members. Ten are elected by TGO property owners during the annual election, with each member representing a specific district. One member is selected by the ARC Committee to serve as Chairman. Each District Member serves a two-year term. As with the CSA Board of Directors, districts are determined by the last digit of a property’s street address. For example, a resident at 324 Plantation Drive would be represented by the ARC member for District 4. The ARC was established to help preserve property values and maintain the appearance and standards of the community through the consistent evaluation, revision, and enforcement of TGO’s architectural covenants and established precedents. The Committee also helps property owners understand what improvements or alterations are permitted and when ARC approval is required before work begins. The ARC reports directly to the CSA Board of Directors. Committee members are appointed by the Board. New or revised rules must go through the Board before receiving the required approval. Each year, ARC provides an updated ARC Guideline to help property owners understand current community requirements. Copies are available online and through the CSA Office. TGO Operating Committees TGO’s Operational Committees are made up primarily of resident volunteers who contribute their time, knowledge, and experience to help address specific areas of community operations. Most committees consist of approximately four to six members and focus on a particular area, such as Firewise, Rules & Regulations, Finance, Planning & Building, and others. Committee members are appointed by the Board. These committees review issues related to their area of responsibility, gather information, discuss possible solutions, and make recommendations when changes or improvements are needed. Their work provides valuable support to TGO’s Administration and Board of Directors by allowing specific subjects to receive more detailed review and consideration. Operational Committees are an important part of TGO’s organizational structure, giving residents an opportunity to become directly involved and contribute their expertise to the continued operation and improvement of the community. Condominium Council The Great Outdoors includes 18 individual condominium associations and two HOAs, each with its own leadership and responsibilities. Each of these areas is represented on the Condominium Council by its designated representative. Together, these representatives form the TGO Condominium Council and select one of their members to serve as Council Chairman. The Council provides a forum for the individual associations to discuss common concerns, share information, and address issues. The Council Chairman serves as the primary liaison between the Condominium Council and the CSA Board of Directors, communicating concerns, ideas, recommendations, and proposed changes on behalf of the represented associations. This structure allows TGO’s individual condominium and HOA areas to maintain responsibility for their own associations while also providing them with a unified voice on broader issues affecting the community.

Wildfire Fighting - W.U.I and the Wildfire Threat
These three letters tell us why we, in TGO, as well as communities in rural Florida, California and Colorado as well as Australia, etc. are so concerned by the threat and the reality of WILDFIRES. What do these all-important letters stand for? W.U.I. is an abbreviation for Wildland Urban Interface, a concept that became significant after WWII. A million GIs were coming home to civilian life. They were getting married and needed homes to raise a family: the “baby boomers.” Developers recognized a fast growing market. They turned fallow fields and “unproductive” wildlands into tract home (urban) development and infrastructure set into (surrounded by) wildlands. The development plan was greatly successful and profitable. TGO is a later 20th century example. The trend will continue as population increases and desirable Florida real estate beckons. Developments such as TGO provide a living space that is protected from further development by being surrounded by state and federal conservation areas and other natural barriers. While this offers seclusion and the benefits of living with nature there are risks. Texas has the highest total number of lightning strikes in the U.S., but Florida has the highest lightning strike density and is often called the “lightning capital.” According to 2023 data from Statista, Texas recorded about 42,389 lightning strikes, the most of any U.S. state. Florida ranked second with roughly 19,182 strikes, but because Florida is much smaller in area, its lightning activity is far more concentrated. When adjusted for land area, Florida averages about 25.3 strikes per square mile annually. Florida’s geography and climate create ideal conditions for frequent thunderstorms: • Peninsula effect: Warm, moist air from the Atlantic and Gulf collides over the central peninsula, forcing air upward and generating intense afternoon storms. • Flat terrain: Allows storm systems to develop without obstruction. • Year-round warm, moist air supply: From surrounding oceans, fueling repeated convection. Lightening is the primary natural cause of wildfires in Florida, although humans are responsible for about 90 percent of wildfire incidents. Lightening can strike in a wildland area and go undetected until it has started an area burning. Often by the time it is noticed, the fire has grown into a large wildfire. Human involvement includes open fires that are unattended or get out of control, discarded smoking material, equipment sparks and deliberate acts of arson. As the populations grow in the wildland urban areas the chances of wildfires grow. This is why we do not allow open fires or fireworks here in TGO. Now you understand the problem of the W.U.I. Think of it as a portal through which a wildfire may enter TGO and destroy our community. We are fortunate that through the FIREWISE USA program, we have partners such as Brevard County Fire Rescue, Florida Forest Service, St. Johns River Water Management District and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission who are trained and equipped for wildfire firefighting and familiar with TGO and its challenges.

Have your property address clearly displayed. 4. Support efforts to provide access for Fire Department vehicles and firefighters. 5. Discourage careless disposal of cigarettes. 6. Pick up tree trash and place curbside for CSA removal. 7. Remove lower branches of trees (to 8 feet) and vines (ladder fuels) to inhibit fire spread.

A Crazy Idea Whose Time Had Come - By Dr. David Price Have you ever seen the movie, “Wild Hogs?” It’s the story of a group of middleaged men who are all facing some form of mid-life crisis. Their solution? Take a cross-country motorcycle trip from Cincinnati, Ohio to California. As the story line unfolds, the four friends – the “Wild Hogs” - find themselves in one misadventure after another. On their first night they manage to burn their tent to the ground. After that, they have an altercation with a real motorcycle gang called the Del Fuegos. One thing leads to another, and they accidentally blow up the gang’s clubhouse. On the run, the “Wild Hogs” take refuge in a quiet New Mexico town, but the Del Fuegos arrive, and the inevitable showdown occurs. It’s a great story line and an entertaining movie. I should know; I’ve watched it more times than I can count. Perhaps that is what inspired me to take my own cross-country trip from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California in 2010. Thankfully, I didn’t have any altercations with the Del Fuegos, but my 5200-mile solo motorcycle trip wasn’t without its challenges and memorable events. In the months ahead, I’ll tell you about some of my experiences right here in The Happenings.

The Sweet Sounds of TGO

With our towering pines, shady oaks, gardens, lakes and wide-open spaces, The Great Outdoors provides an inviting home and seasonal stopover for an amazing variety of songbirds. While these are certainly not the only songbirds you might spot around TGO, we’ve selected ten familiar favorites worth watching and listening for. Some are colorful, some are tiny, and a few have voices much bigger than their bodies. How many of these feathered neighbors have you spotted?
Northern Cardinal Probably the most recognizable backyard songbird. Males are brilliant red; females are warm brown with reddish accents. Cardinals are common Florida feeder visitors year-round.
Northern Mockingbird Florida’s state bird and one we certainly see around TGO. Famous for copying the songs and calls of other birds. Common throughout the year.
Carolina Wren Tiny bird with an enormous voice. They love shrubs, porches, wooded edges and gardens and have that very recognizable repeated “tea-kettle” type song.
Tufted Titmouse The cute little gray bird with the pointed crest, big dark eyes and rusty coloring along its sides. Its repeated “peter-peter-peter” whistle is often heard before the bird is spotted.

Pine Warbler A particularly appropriate TGO bird because of our mature pines. Look for yellowish coloring and listen for its musical trill. Pine Warblers are no strangers in North Brevard and is a familiar Florida songbird. Eastern Bluebird A beautiful choice for the article because residents will recognize the brilliant blue males with rusty-orange breasts. They like open areas with nearby trees, making golf-course environments particularly suitable. Eastern Bluebirds are recorded year-round in Brevard.
Carolina Chickadee Small, active black-and-white songbird with a black cap and throat. It isn’t as abundant here as the cardinal or mockingbird, but it is a year-round Brevard species.
Gray Catbird A slate-gray bird with a black cap whose raspy call really does sound a little like a cat. They’re especially noticeable in Florida during the cooler months; Common in fall and winter.
Yellow-rumped Warbler One of our classic winter visitors. They’re small, constantly moving birds with flashes of yellow, including the distinctive yellow rump that gives them their name. They’re among Florida’s frequently observed backyard birds.
Painted Bunting If you have seen one of these birds, you are fortunate. Adult males are almost unbelievable in color with a blue head, red underparts and patches of green. They have been documented right here at TGO - and around the Titusville, Merritt Island area, and northern Brevard within their Florida breeding range.

Did you know: Mayonnaise was invented in the 18th century? It originated in Spain but was made popular by the French. But Russia has been considered to have the highest consumption of it. Some folks, other than eating it, use it as a hair conditioner – leaving hair shiny and moisturized. Others have been known to use it on wood furniture to remove water marks. I prefer to just eat it. When I was a kid, I was known to each mayonaise sandwiches – I was lucky if I could make mayo and tomato sandwiches…oh, so good!!! Facts: Mayo contains 90 calories in 1 tbsp, but can be considered on a diet when consumed in moderation. It contains high amounts of Vitamin K, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. TODAY’S RECIPE: Baked Cheese & Onion Dip 1-2 tbsp vegetable oil 1 medium onion, finely chopped 8 oz pkg cream cheese – softened (room temp) 2 tsp cornstarch 4 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese 2 oz shredded Monterey jack cheese 2 tbls finely chopped chives – for garnish 2 tbls finely chopped pepperoncini – for garnish
Directions: Preheat oven to 350. In a saucepan, sauté the onion in the oil until softened – about 8-10 min. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool. Blend cream cheese and mayo until smooth. Add in the cornstarch – stir to incorporate. Add in 3 of the 4 oz of cheddar and 1 of the 2 oz of Monterey jack cheese and cooled onion, blend to fully incorporate. Put into a 1 qt baking dish, top with remaining cheese and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Remove, let it rest for 5 minutes then top with chives and pepperoncini. Funny Thing Is… Not A Patient Patient I am not a patient, patient. I don’t like waiting rooms and is it just me, or does it seem like the longer you wait, the more money you spend? My dentist once quipped that I already paid for his boat and now I’m building him a new patio. It’s hard to respond when he’s got weapons in his hand and they’re in your mouth. The good news about waiting rooms is some of the stuff you hear is better than watching the Comedy Channel. If you’re in there for depression, you might be cured before the nurse ever calls you in. Case in point. Recently I drove a friend to an ear doctor. Patients in this dead silent waiting room were hard of hearing and trying to whisper to each other, but they were as loud as people in a sports bar. Here’s how it sounded: “I got a new car. Really, what kind is it? About 1:15, why? No, what kind is it?” Another conversation was: “What are you here for?” What? WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR? I have Aids. Aids? That’s horrible. No, I got a new one for each ear. Oh, what does your family think of that? I haven’t told them. I just listen to them talking with a smile on my face. I’ve changed my will twice.” Okay, I read that last joke from a waiting room magazine. Speaking of which, do the doctors think we don’t notice the dates on some of those magazines? Do they think we can be interested in the World Series recap of 1998 while we wait for an hour? Aren’t we paying you enough to buy some new magazines? And what can you do when you’re jammed in a room where one person can’t stop sneezing, another is snoring, and yet another is filling the room with aromatic emanations (smells) like they stopped at the taco stand on the way? It’s funny when the nurse opens the door and everyone anxiously hopes it’s their name that’s called like a parolee waiting to get out of prison. And what happens when they finally do call you? You get to go to a smaller waiting room with no magazines and the smell of what may be formaldehyde. Not a comforting thing in a doctor’s office. The nurse says the doc will be right with you which evidently is a medical term meaning sometime before sunset. I guess I’m not a patient patient. - Dr. Sammy -

YOUR DIGITAL CLUTTER When we think about getting our affairs in order, we often think about wills, bank accounts, insurance policies, and important papers. But there is another part of our lives that can be just as complicated and much easier to overlook: Our Digital Lives. Make Sure You Leave a Digital Roadmap Today, so much of our personal and financial information exists behind a password. Our phones, tablets, computers, email accounts, online banking, credit cards, investments, social media, photographs, subscriptions, and even medical information may all require a username, password, or verification code. If something happens to us, our loved ones may be left trying to figure out not only what accounts we have, but how to access the devices that hold the keys to them. The solution is to create a Digital Information File - create one secure place that tells a trusted person where everything is located and how to access it. n Start by making a list of your devices: your cell phone, tablet, desktop computer, laptop, smart watch, and any other device that may contain important information. Record the device passcodes and explain which devices are used for what. Don’t forget the passwords or recovery information for your primary email account. Email is particularly important because it is often used to reset passwords for other accounts. n Next, create a master list of your important online accounts. This might include banks, credit cards, investments, insurance, Social Security, utilities, online shopping, subscriptions, cloud storage, photo services, and social media. You don’t necessarily need to write every password on a piece of paper. Instead, consider using a reputable password manager, which can securely store your passwords and allow a trusted person to gain access under appropriate circumstances. n Don’t overlook two-factor authentication. If a financial institution sends a security code to your phone, for example, your family may need access to that phone or another authentication method before they can get into the account. Include instructions explaining how your two-factor authentication works and where backup codes are kept. n Your Digital Information File should also include instructions for photographs and other irreplaceable files. Decide what you want saved, shared, transferred, or deleted. A lifetime of photographs stored on a computer or in the cloud could be one of your most meaningful possessions - and one of the easiest things for a family to lose access to. n Finally, tell a trusted person where the information is kept. A beautifully organized digital file isn’t helpful if nobody knows it exists. Store the information securely and let your designated person know how to locate it. Because passwords and other sensitive information can change, make reviewing and updating your digital information part of your regular household paperwork routine. n Think of this process NOT as preparing for death, but as preparing for life’s unexpected moments. A lost phone, serious illness, or accident can create many of the same problems. Your goal here is simple: don’t make your family become digital detectives. Give them a clear roadmap to your digital life, securely organized in one place, so they can spend their time dealing with what matters most rather than trying to figure out your passwords.

His importance is that his voyages helped open a permanent connection between two parts of the world that would never again be separated in the same way. That honor went to another Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, whose accounts helped convince European mapmakers that these lands were actually a separate part of the world. Then, in 1507, a German cartographer used the name America on a map. So Let’s Review Columbus didn’t reach the United States. He wasn’t the first person in America. He wasn’t even the first European in North America. He wasn’t trying to find America. He thought he’d reached Asia. And they named the continents after somebody else. Yet Columbus got the federal holiday named after him! Maybe Leif Needed a Better Agent? Here’s the final irony: Leif Erikson actually has his own holiday. In 1964, Congress authorized the president to proclaim October 9 as Leif Erikson Day each year.
Maybe the fairest approach isn’t to erase Columbus or pretend his voyages weren’t historically important. They unquestionably were. But perhaps we should retire the old elementary-school version in which Columbus heroically “discovered America” as though an entirely empty continent suddenly appeared over the horizon.

A Minute with Meghan… I Hate Pink Ribbons. There, I Said It. Between cooler weather, football, chai lattes, and cozy fires (at least when I lived in Tennessee), there are so many things I love about October. One thing I don’t love… the color pink, especially pink ribbons! Please Keep Reading!!! On September 30, 2024, I had my FIRST and ONLY mammogram at the age of 40. It was supposed to be routine, but it was far from it. My mammogram showed a golf-ball-sized mass in my left breast. They didn’t have to say anything; I knew immediately what it meant. The radiologist came to talk to me and confirmed my worst nightmare - breast cancer. She kept talking about next steps, but I honestly don’t remember anything she said, except, “Do you have any questions?” All I could say was “Can I have a hug?” She hugged me, held me tight, and told me that things were about to move really quickly. Two days later, a biopsy would confirm the diagnosis as the most aggressive form of breast cancer - Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. I was considered Stage 3b, and it was only by the grace of God that it had not metastasized to become Stage 4. After six months of chemo and immunotherapy, imaging was unable to detect remnants of cancer, but my oncology team and I still made the decision to move forward with a double mastectomy, axillary lymph node dissection, and breast
reconstruction. I had my initial surgery in May 2025, and many of you may remember when I started at TGO in January of this year, I was almost immediately gone for three weeks in March - it was when I had my final breast reconstructive surgery. I’m one of the lucky ones. One of the ones who “made it through.” Made it through the hardest days of treatment, emotional days of lying on the floor crying, and days when I just didn’t want to keep fighting. But I did… and now I’m here to share my story with those who just received their diagnosis, those going through it, and to celebrate with those who are in remission. When you read this on October 2, it will have been exactly two years since my biopsy confirmation, but exactly 500 days of being in remission! So, when I say I hate pink ribbons, it’s not because I don’t understand their meaning; it’s because October was one of the worst months of my life, and everywhere I went, it looked like the Energizer Bunny had thrown up everywhere - pink ribbons, pink banners, pink streamers, pink t-shirts, pink, pink, pink. It was a constant reminder of my diagnosis, and the looks of sorrow when you tell people you have cancer. BUT… If in October, those pink ribbons or the “Save the Tatas” campaigns make you schedule an appointment to get checked… I’m all for it! I had no symptoms and was otherwise healthy, but if I hadn’t asked my PCP for a mammogram referral at 40 years old, it may have been too late. Make your health your #1 priority, advocate for yourself, and never take your health for granted! Before. During. After. Three versions of me. The Architectural Review Committee meets for planning purposes on the Plantation Manor Porch at 10:00am on Monday, October 19, 2026. Application Review Agenda: Approve field approvals, old business, non-compliance violations, new business, adjourn. All changes to your property that are visible on the outside require advance approval from the Architectural Review Committee. Application forms and ARC Guidelines may be obtained from the Community Services Association office or printed from The Great Outdoors Community Services Association website at www.tgocsa.org. All completed ARC forms must be submitted to the CSA office by Noon on the Wednesday before the next Wednesday meeting. Results will be available to pick up after the ARC meeting or from the CSA Office.
Be sure ALL necessary paperwork is included with your ARC application. No approval will be given without having all the required data available at the ARC Meeting for review. The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) will provide owners with a clear understanding of what is allowed and when ARC approval is needed. Gaining ARC approval is facilitated through a responsive process that is easy to use. The ARC Guidelines and Application Form are available for download at TGOCSA.org or you can also pick up an application in the CSA Office Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. Applications must be submitted to the CSA Office by 12:00 Noon on the Wednesday prior to the following Wednesday meeting date to be considered at that meeting. The ARC is elected by property owners. ARC has eleven members, ten elected from representative districts and one elected by the whole membership to serve as chairman. Each ARC term is two years. Districts are determined by the last number of each address (ex: 324 Plantation would be District 4). Community Information CSA Trash Pick Up Rules
The CSA crew picks up household trash 364 days of the year (off for Christmas). You’ll see them in a big truck pulling one or more green hoppers behind it. The guy crouching on the hopper grabs your trash bag as they pass by. To make the process efficient, please follow these rules: • Trash must be placed in plastic bags that are tied closed. Lightweight bags should be tied together. Trash that is not in plastic bags may not be picked up. • Break down all boxes and put all packing material in a closed bag. • Place trash within one foot of the road so it’s within easy reach. • Dispose of your pet’s waste inside the closed trash bag. • Put trash out at the curb by 10:00am - Pick-up time varies within the park. • Do not mix household trash with organic yard debris or construction materials. • Do not put trash out at night because by morning it will have been scattered by wild animals. • Also, be aware that if you place your trash out on the street too early, the vultures think you have prepared them a sack lunch!
CSA Yard Debris Pick-Up Rules
The CSA crew picks up organic yard debris at least once per week. Tree trimmings should be cut down to a maximum of 4 feet long, weigh less than 50 pounds, and be stacked uniformly at the curb. Loose material such as pine needles, leaves and small twigs must be collected in untied plastic bags or open containers. The CSA will not pick up sod, dirt, tree stumps, construction material (e.g., concrete, wood, drywall, metal), chemicals (e.g., paint, oil), major appliances, or tires. DO NOT bring these items to the CSA Maintenance Yard yourself. They may be dropped off, without charge, at the Brevard County Mockingbird Mulching Facility - 321-264-5009. Most other waste items such as carpet, porcelain plumbing fixtures, etc., that are not mentioned above can be dropped off at the Brevard County Transfer Station 321-264-5048.
Clearing Vegetation on CSA Property
Our Declaration of Covenants states that “No CSA land may be cleared of any vegetation without prior written permission from the Board of Directors or its designee. Unauthorized clearing of CSA property will result in a hearing, with possible fines and ordered replanting.” This only makes sense, as you would not cut vegetation on someone else’s property without permission first. In order to track this better, we will require anyone seeking permission to cut vegetation on CSA property to fill out an ARC permit. An approved permit must include the CSA manager’s signature, and a copy of the permit will be filed in your ARC file for documentation purposes.

Know Your Condo Rules - Be a Good Neighbor!
Each condominium within The Great Outdoors has its own elected officers, including a President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as rules designed to maintain the appearance, safety and enjoyment of the neighborhood. These guidelines may address landscape maintenance, weeds, trash and recycling, pet responsibilities, parking, outdoor lighting, flags and signs, exterior decorations, storage of personal items, vehicles and golf carts, and the general appearance of each property. While many rules are similar throughout TGO, requirements can vary from one condominium to another. Every resident is responsible for reading, understanding and following the rules established for their individual condominium. Being a good neighbor starts with knowing the rules and doing your part to keep your neighborhood attractive and enjoyable.

The CSA has a contract with Spectrum that includes Spectrum TV Select and Spectrum Internet services. If you are experiencing problems with their service or need to set up a new service, call the number above. Tell them your community at The Great Outdoors has a bulk agreement known as the Bronze Package. TGO Community Channel 732 Our television channel of the Community Services Association will be active for broadcasting board meetings. Your TV must be equipped with a Spectrum TV cable box or digital adapter.
Turf Masters regularly applies spray applications to our lawns and common areas that includes an herbicide for weed control, a liquid fertilizer, a granular nitrogen fertilizer and an insecticide to kill chinch bugs, and other turf-damaging insects. Turf Masters is also offering “service-call” visits to TGO. If you are still having problems with lawn pests or weeds, call the CSA Office at 321-268-9767, and we will put your address on the Turf Masters list. Application dates are scheduled for November 2, 3 & 4 Service Calls - November 30 Turf Masters advises all TGO residents to stay off treated areas of your lawn, and to keep your pets off treated areas, until the application has thoroughly dried.
Guide to Living With Alligators in TGO
There are 32 lakes in The Great Outdoors and all of them are home to alligators. Please keep these points in mind to be safe when alligators could be nearby:
• It is illegal to feed, taunt or harass an alligator. • Do not swim or wade in any of our lakes. • Do not walk near the shorelines and do not walk your pets near the shoreline. • Do not allow your pets to swim, exercise or drink in or near our lakes. • While alligators can be active at any time, they are most active between dusk and dawn and move during the night to different water sources. • Please give our alligators the respect and space they deserve. NOTE: If you come across an aggressive alligator, please contact the CSA Office prior to SNAP and allow us to handle any situation.

Have Someone Call 9-1-1 While You Operate AED The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses incorrect heart rhythm patterns that could potentially be life threatening. The device treats the condition with electrical shocks. AED use requires minimal training because an electronic voice prompts the user through each step. If you are helping a person who collapsed and you’re unsure if a heart attack is the reason, don’t hesitate to use the AED. Every minute counts. The device determines if the patient needs an electrical shock or not. Simply place the AED pads on the patient’s bare skin, one on the right upper chest and the other on their lower left side. No one else should be touching the patient because false readings could result. The AED will advise you, the device operator, what to do next. TGO Has Eight AEDs Located at CSA buildings. 1. Mammography
It’s expensive, it can be painful, and a few other misconceptions we wish to explore.
HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT BREAST CONDITIONS, EXAMINATIONS AND TESTS?
Myth 1: Insurance won’t cover it, or I won’t be able to afford the co-pay/deductible.
Myth 3: I just don’t have time.
“Mammography is usually covered under most health plans, including Medicare, once a woman reaches an age determined by the insurer,” says Shannon Luker, RN, BSN, Parrish Healthcare Oncology Navigator. If you have Medicare and are age 65 or older, Medicare pays for most of the cost of a screening mammogram every 12 months. Myth 2: The test is too painful. Yes, the test can be a bit uncomfortable, but most women don’t consider it painful. Compression helps hold the breast still, evens out the breast tissue and allows lower doses of X-ray to be used. If you feel pain, speak up. The technologist may be able to lower the compression and relieve some of the pressure on your breast. And remember that any discomfort is brief; the actual X-ray takes less than a minute.
