I’ve always loved to bake, but somehow, in all my years of cookies, cakes, and pies, I had never once attempted homemade cinnamon rolls. Don’t ask me why—I suppose it just felt like one of those “all day” projects reserved for people with more time than I usually have. But last Christmas, with my sweet daughter-in-love by my side, I finally rolled up my sleeves (literally) and gave it a try. And let me tell you, nothing bonds two bakers like wrestling sticky dough and trying not to eat all the filling before it makes it into the rolls.
To our delight, the recipe using instant yeast turned out to be super simple—almost suspiciously so! We laughed, we floured the counters (and maybe ourselves a little), and we decided right then and there that this was the start of a brand-new Christmas tradition. The smell of cinnamon and sugar filled the house, and when we pulled those golden spirals out of the oven, we both agreed: Christmas had never tasted this good.
