GOOD TO KNOW

This summer, Jan Newsome showcased her talent as Costume Director and Make-Up Chairperson for CATS (Connestee Amateur Theatre Society) in their lively production of On the Air. Jan’s creative touch transported the cast and the audience to a bygone era.

Bringing the golden age of radio to life, the “Pinkettes” (Sharon Gublo, Joan Toepfer, and Andrea Janzen) charmed the audience with timeless jingles like Brylcreem’s “A little dab’ll do ya” and Alka-Seltzer’s “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz—oh, what a relief it is!” Jan added to the magic with her with her aptly (or skillfully) chosen/selected 1940’s era polka dot dresses.

When the CATS Radio Show’s KCFR leading actress lost her voice and couldn’t perform the finale, Diane Lanum (in the role of Barbara Lantry) stepped in to save the day! Diane, pictured here, works on the KCFR theatre’s custodial team. One day, someone overheard her singing in the restroom and was blown away. As it turns out, Diane once performed on Broadway, and though she left the city lights behind, her remarkable voice remains with her. She stunned the audience and reminded us that life can be full of beautiful surprises. (Make-up, hair & costume selection coordinated by Jan.)
