F

ollowing the phenomenal success of ICE Expo 2025, it is with immense pride and excitement that we welcome you to ICE Expo

2026.

Last year’s event firmly established itself as the largest and most impactful construction and plant equipment show Ireland has ever seen.

With over €15 million in sales and an incredible 6,300 attendees, it brought together the very best of our industry – leaders, innovators, and decision-makers – for a truly dynamic showcase of progress and possibility.

What has been even more remarkable is the momentum that has followed. For only the second year running, the level of interest and exhibitor intake has been nothing short of extraordinary. The support from across the industry has been incredible, and it speaks volumes about the appetite for a platform like ICE Expo.

In fact, exhibitor numbers have grown by more than three times, a clear reflection of the confidence and enthusiasm surrounding the event.

This year, ICE Expo 2026 takes things to an entirely new level. We are proud to host over 300+ exhibitors, showcasing more than 450 brands from across Ireland and beyond. Our expanded footprint allows for even more live demonstrations, immersive displays, and groundbreaking innovations that continue to push the boundaries of construction, machinery, and technology.

A key highlight for 2026 will be the expansion of our much-loved Operator Challenges, which promise even more action, competition, and engagement for attendees. We are also delighted to have our fantastic brand ambassadors on board – Sammy Heaney, Pete the Builder,

Cool Cat’s commitment extends beyond the event itself, with ongoing monthly donations helping to fund critical services and research.

A key highlight of this year’s charity efforts will be a dedicated auction taking place on Friday evening of the event. Bringing together exhibitors and attendees, the

auction promises to be both a social and meaningful occasion.

In a strong show of support, 100% of the proceeds raised will be donated directly to the Irish Cancer Society and Teac Tom, ensuring that every contribution makes a tangible difference.

The Tyre Warrior Known across the industry as @tyrewarrior, The Tyre Warrior has established himself as one of the most recognisable figures in tyre repair and maintenance - not just in Ireland, but internationally.

Peter Finn — Pete the Builder

Few people in the Irish construction industry are as well known - or as well regarded - as Peter Finn. A builder by trade and co-presenter of RTÉ's Home Rescue, Peter is also the host of the Behind The Walls podcast, which has become a respected platform for conversation across the building sector.

As Owner and Managing Director of MDS Construction Ltd., Peter's project portfolio speaks for itself. His work spans heritage restoration, high-end new builds, and landmark contracts - among them, protection works on the Old Library at Trinity College Dublin, home to the Book of Kells, and the relocation of the Fair City film set on the RTÉ campus.

A Market Turning at the Right Time

Industry sentiment has improved into 2026. In fact, Ireland's annual infrastructure expenditure is projected to increase from €7.9 billion in 2024 to €13.7 billion by 2050.

After a slower period where many contractors held back on capital spend, enquiries are picking up, order activity is improving, and buyers are re-entering the market with more confidence.

You can already see this in the data. Figures from the Central Statistics Office show civil engineering activity increasing year-on-year, driven by infrastructure and utilities work.

Civil engineering and infrastructure activity continues to perform strongly, supported by public investment in roads, utilities and transport. Order books in these sectors remain robust.

House building has been more uneven, impacted by planning timelines, grid constraints and cost pressures. However, activity remains ongoing, and a significant volume of projects already commenced will require completion over the next 12 – 24 months.

For contractors focused on civils and infrastructure, the case for fleet investment is clear.

For those in residential construction, the market is moving through a recovery phase, with work continuing to come through.

How Buyers Are Thinking Now The most noticeable shift in the Irish market is not what contractors are buying, but how they are making decisions.

Purchase price is no longer the sole driver. Buyers are increasingly focused on total cost of ownership: • Fuel efficiency • Service intervals • Parts availability • Resale value • Downtime risk That last point is critical.

With labour costs rising and programmes tightening, an idle machine is no longer just an inconvenience. It is a direct cost to the business.

Finance and the Buying Window Financing conditions have improved.

The European Central Bank began easing interest rates through 2024, reducing borrowing costs compared to the previous cycle. This has made hire purchase and leasing more accessible again for many contractors.

At the same time, the used equipment market has stabilised following the price spikes seen between 2022 and 2023. Buyers are now operating in a more balanced environment, with greater availability and more realistic pricing.

This creates a window of opportunity.

As more projects move to site under the National Development Plan, demand for plant is expected to tighten again. Contractors who invest now are likely to be better positioned when that demand accelerates.

The Ongoing Challenge: Skilled Operators One constraint continues to affect every part of the industry: skills.

Industry surveys consistently show that a large proportion of construction employers are struggling to source experienced operators. At the same time, sector demand suggests that Ireland will require a significant increase in workforce numbers to meet housing and infrastructure targets.

Cathal Doherty, Sales Manager, Ireland, with Euro Auctions, shares his 10 ‘Top Tips’ for buying a good excavator, and not a whole bag full of trouble!

• History – Hours are a useful guide, but the machine’s history is equally important. A five-year-old excavator with one or two careful owners may be in excellent condition, even with relatively high hours. Conversely, a newer machine from a rental fleet may have been operated by multiple users. Understanding whether the machine has been used for general construction, demolition, utilities, or quarrying will give insight into its true condition • Pins, Bushes and Slew Ring – Wear in pivot points is inevitable, but excessive movement can signal costly future repairs. Start the machine and operate the boom and bucket slowly, placing the bucket on the ground and applying gentle pressure. Check the boom base pin, pivot points, and slew ring, looking for signs of wear. Some movement is normal on older machines, but well-maintained pins and bushes should show evidence of regular greasing • Exterior Structural Damage – The external condition of a machine often reveals its working life. Look for dents, cracks, or bends in the boom and stick. Extend-

s Sleator Plant gears up for its participation at the upcoming ICE Expo 2026 the team have revealed their plans for the eagerly-anticipated showcase of innovative new SANY machinery. The leading equipment supplier will be delighting attendees with the unveiling of two new SANY machines – the first of which will be the 6 metre SANY telehandler, set to have its Irish launch.

In the lead-up to the show, Jonathan Campbell, Managing Director of Sleator Plant, provided Plant & Civil Engineer with a behind-the-scenes preview, saying: “We’re really looking forward to showcasing this construction site machine. The 6m telehandler is fully loaded with everything, in addition to having the shortest turning circle you can get which is great when working in a tight site. This product will be brilliant for the likes of house-builders and the hire industry as well.”

The reveal of the telehandler at ICE Expo is aligning with Sleator Plant’s continued achievements in this arena – and one they’re excited to build on even more.

Jonathan said: “The telehandlers came into market initially at the end of 2024 with the 14m and 18m range. We had phenomenal success during 2025, with our Regional Sales Manager Amanda McNally being awarded Leading Salesperson for Telehandlers in UK & Ireland at the SANY UK & Ireland Dealer Conference.”

“They’ve been a real sales driver for us – they’ve arrived into the market and upset the apple cart, providing customers with a proper viable alternative to the other traditional brands. As a result, we’re really excited about the addition of the 6m.”
