Bright Star 2004-2006

Lake Oswego, OR Bright Star is a Tolman Jumbo 24, stitch-and-glue cabin boat built in ‘04–’06. The diesel I/O cruises at 18 mph with good fuel economy.

Victoria, B.C. Camas Moon is a new 18’ gaff yawl designed by Tad Roberts, built of marine plywood by the owner, and launched in June 2022.

Seattle, WA The result of a Scandinavian Yacht Racing Union design competition in 1939, the Nordic Folkboat was conceived as a low-cost, easily sailed boat for everyone. There are more than 4,000 hulls afloat today.

Christmas Wherry Unknown Vallejo, CA Christmas Wherry is a Pygmy Kit built Wineglass Wherry. It saw use in Tomales Bay, and the Carquinez Strait. She became know as the “Christmas Wherry”, as it served double duty for Santa to leave Christmas presents hidden in the boat. Cito 1936 Port Townsend, WA Cito is a 38 M2 Danish Class Spidsgatter built in Copenhagen in 1936. She is a fractional-rigged sloop, built in European Larch planking on sawn oak frames with teak decks and mahogany cabin.

Corsair II 1926

Seattle, WA Winning the 2019 Seattle Opening Day Best Classic, the Corsair II is truly a showstopper! She was built in 1926 and has been cruised by the same loving owners for over 45 years.

Daddy’s Third 2012

Olympia, WA Daddy’s Third is a 26’ St. Pierre Dory powered by two 36 V electric trolling motors with 27 kilowatt-hours of batteries and 540 watts of solar panels.

Discovery 1963 Seattle, WA Discovery is a 46’ Bill Garden custom design built by the Vic Franck Yard for the McCurdy family in 1963. She is planked yellow cedar on steamed oak frames with a cast iron keel.

Dr. Petra 2017

Corvallis, OR Dr. Petra is a pocket cruiser with accommodation for two adults. She cruises comfortably between 4–5.5 knots with occasional bursts of 6.5+ when needed.

El Mistico 1927

Shelton, WA M/V El Mistico was designed by Thearle and Nordstrom and built by the Ballard Marine Railway (now Pacific Fisherman) in 1927.

Electric Philosophy 2021

Jesup, IA Electric Philosophy is a solar electric catamaran designed for self-sufficient coastal cruising. Completed in 2021, twin electric motors are powered by batteries charged from a solar roof.

Clinton, WA 12-foot single station dinghy. Glued plywood lapstrake, white oak stem, keel, rails, sapele transom, meranti floors and thwarts. Boat is displayed with stillwater trout fishing seat/floors. Ellie 2010 Mukilteo, WA Ellie is a very capable day sailer and camp cruiser with room to carry six or sleep two. She’s home-built from plywood and epoxy with 4 sailing rigs to choose from.

Emma Rose 1971

Port Townsend, WA Seaworthy, gracious, comfortable and most importantly, warm, Emma Rose is a vintage 1971 Grand Banks 32.

Epic 2012 Nordland, WA Epic was designed to be the ultimate youth journey vessel. With watertight integrity, a handy schooner rig, and a shallow-draft weighted centerboard, she is fast under sail or oars.

Ern 1957 Vancouver, B.C. Ern is built of mahogany on oak by John Barkhouse in Chester, Nova Scotia, in 1957. She is well-known on the B.C. coast from the pilot books Charlie’s Charts.

Flygburen 1994 Bainbridge Island, WA From the desk of Knud Reimers in 1935 to local boatbuilders in 1994, Flygburen is a beautifully executed example of the classic Tumlaren class of Swedish 20 M2 class boats.

Galileo 2022

Seattle, WA Galileo is an Eco 55 Power Cat design from Bernd Kohler. Built (actually still being built) over a period of several years, it has electric propulsion and solar panels, and is trailerable.

Gikumi 1954

Richmond, B.C. Gikumi, a 1954 classic carvel-planked West Coast work boat, was designed by naval architect Robert Allan Sr. She has been working ever since her launch 68 years ago.

Ginger 1998 Portland, OR Ginger is an electric-powered raised-deck cruiser with a stripplanked fantail hull similar to a Victorian steam launch and a ‘20s-era pilot house.

Glorybe 1914

Port Hadlock, WA Glorybe has cruised in the Northwest since she was built in 1914 on Vashon Island. She has survived over a century of adventures.

Grace O’ Malley 2010

Deer Harbor, WA Built in 2010 as a Malabar II gaff-rigged Schooner designed by John Alden. Renamed Grace O’ Malley and rebuilt as a staysail schooner by Michael Durland and Dick Schuettge.

Grasshopper 2005 Bainbridge Island, WA Grasshopper is a high-efficiency commuter cruiser designed and built by Russell Brown. It features a custom wood/glass/carbon pod on carbon struts and goes 15 knots at 1 gallon per hour!

Grebe 2019 Moscow, ID At 13’, this classic sharpie skiff is big enough to take camping and still light enough to cartop.

Halcyon 1948 Seattle, WA Halcyon is a 1948 Bill Garden salmon trawler, refit in 1984 by Sam Fry for cruising. She was donated to The Center for Wooden Boats by Ned Johnson to begin her new career as a teaching platform for maritime skills.

Haven 2020

Victoria, B.C. Haven is a glued-lapstrake plywood runabout inspired by lapstrake runabouts popular in the ‘50s and ‘60s and designed by Paul Gartside.

Havhesten 1939

Port Townsend, WA Havhesten is a class type for racing developed between the wars in Langesund, Norway. She is a 19’2” open keelboat, fractionally-rigged sloop.

Helma 1938

Bainbridge Island, WA Helma is a 38-sq-m spidsgatter built in Denmark in 1938. She has undergone a complete keel-up rebuild over the last four years in Port Townsend at the NWMC Boatshop by Robert D’Arcy and Doug Jones.

Hiyu 2011 Spokane, WA Hiyu is a 10.5’ Fiddlehead lapstrake decked canoe designed by Harry Bryan. The owner designed and built a pedal drive for her which turns a propeller.

Hoku Hele 1963

Everett, WA Hoku Hele has a red Honduran mahogany hull and teak decks. She is powered by two original 8V71 Detroit Diesels.

Holiday 1946

Marysville, WA Holiday has been family-owned since its launch in July 1946. She is a Ed Monk Sr,-designed 36’ double-ender built on Seattle’s Lake Union by the Edison Technical School.

Hope Unknown Port Townsend, WA Hope is a classic Swampscott dory, perfect for rowing on Puget Sound waters, taking on trips, and stargazing. She’s a seaworthy and comfortable platform, carrying well under oars in most conditions.

Iron Feather 1946

Port Townsend, WA Launched in 1946, Iron Feather was built by the Matthews Boat Company in OH. For over 75 years she has been lovingly maintained and cruises the PNW from the Columbia River to the Inside Passage.

Isabella 1955

Anacortes, WA Isabella is a Nordic Folkboat built in Denmark in 1955. Her current owner purchased her 3 years ago and has been restoring her with the assistance of local shipwrights and riggers.

Orpheus 1964 Nordland, WA Gary Mull was commissioned by Sparkman & Stephens to design an ocean racer to compete with the Cal 40. The result was the Spirit 33 strip-planked sloop; 6 were built and raced in ocean races around the world.

Pacifica 1947

Port Townsend, WA Pacifica was built in 1947 in City Island, N.Y., by Henry Nevins. She was one of the first boats built with an extruded aluminum mast, which now would be considered overbuilt. She has raced to Bermuda once and Hawaii four times.

Paddleshell 1960

Camano Island, WA Paddleshell is an Alden Malabar Jr. 32 fractional sloop. She has Philippine mahogany planking on white oak frames all fastened with bronze screws to a yellow cedar backbone. Seattle, WA Patamar is a mid-’30s bridge-deck cruiser that was built by a Boeing engineer in Wallingford. The hull is red cedar over white oak frames with a teak cabin and original canvas decks.

Port Townsend, WA The first Devlin Song Wren to be completed, PattyB features a cabin for cruising and a generous sail area to provide power on those Puget Sound summer light-air days.

Steveston, B.C. Providence is the oldest continuously working vessel in B.C.. Currently the flagship for Britannia Shipyard Historic Site in Steveston B.C., she is employed in Charters and Sail Cargo operations in B.C. waters.

Puffin 1967

Bainbridge Island, WA With just over 26’ on deck and a water line length of 22’6”, Puffin has an ample beam of 9’6”. She was designed in Bill Garden’s words as a small ocean-going vessel. She has made two round trips from California to New Zealand.

Que Será 1964

Port Townsend, WA Que Será is hull number 11 of a limited production run of 19 K43 Sloops built by Kettenburg Marine, San Diego, in the mid-1960s. To our knowledge, she is one of three K43s built with teak decks, house, and cockpit.

Rage 1993 Portland, OR Rage was built by Steve Rander and Schooner Creek Boat Works using cold-molded COVE construction to set records racing to Hawaii and to be cruised by a couple.

Seattle, WA An Atkins gaff cutter, Ripple was built in Port Townsend by the NWSWB in 1994. She is cedar-planked on oak frames and powered by a two cylinder Beta 14.

Riptide 1927 Port Ludlow, WA Riptide is a classic bridge-deck cruiser built in Seattle during the 1920s. She’s hosted three marriages, moonlight cruises, and longer voyages throughout the Puget Sound, Salish Sea, and Alaska in her happy life.

Row Bird 2012

Portland, OR Row Bird, a lug-yawl, is a capable sail and oar boat that has camp-cruised from Olympia, WA, to Port McNeill, B.C.. She rows easily and is an able sailing craft.

Runaround Sue 2021

Fox Island, WA This is an example of the Glen L. Witt Geronimo design. She is powered with a 75 hp outboard with a top speed of 35 mph.

Santorina 2000

Port Townsend, WA Santorina is a Covey Island 38 composite-built schooner.

Sargasso 1931

Bellingham, WA Sargasso was rescued from the wrecking yard 6 years ago. She is a beautifully restored L36, carvel planked and bronze fastened, and she had participated in WA360 in 2021.

Friday Harbor, WA Sassafrass is a custom schooner that was refitted in Ballard, WA. She just completed a several year cruise to Central America and the Caribbean.

Savona 1942

Bremerton, WA MV Savona is an Ed Monk Sr. design that was built by Bud Forder in 1942 for Russell Rathbone in Kenmore on Lake Washington.

Scout 2009

Lakebay, WA Scout is a John-Carlson design, Sam Devlin-built 23’ raised deck cruiser. In 2018, 3’ were added to the stern and Devlin repainted her. Scout’s cabin has V-berths, a wood stove, and sink. Brinnon, WA Built in Kelso, WA, in 1937, Sea Cloud is a raised-deck cutter designed by William Deed. She is fitted with an electric motor and oars for auxiliary power.

Sea Dream 1968

Bainbridge Island, WA A Hugh Angleman “Sea Spirit” auxiliary gaff-rigged ketch, the owners have taken pleasure in customizing Sea Dream without compromising quality, charm, or her traditional values.

Sea Witch 1939

Sooke, B.C. Sea Witch is a classic PNW boat. A Port Townsend native, she has been across the Salish Sea several times. She was rescued from rotting on the government docks by novice owners who discovered her pedigree by accident.

Serenity 1951 Seattle, WA Serenity is a restored 1951 34’ Chris Craft cruiser. The hull was painted black by a previous owner. All of the mechanics are modern. It has a 1962 Chevy small block 327 engine.

Serenity 1989 Blaine, WA Serenity is a 22’ by 8’ skiff that was designed and built from a carved half-model for use as a salmon set-net skiff. The planking is Sitka spruce, 11 strakes per side, and copper-riveted.

Seven Bells 1929

Seattle, WA Seven Bells was restored in 1998 by its current owner. The hull is of Port Orford cedar, house is teak, and soles are fir. The engines are diesels and the curtains were a gift made by an Italian grandmother.

Silva Bans 1986

Tacoma, WA Silva Bans is a replica of an 1840 British Cutter designed for fishing off the west coast where the harbors were so full of boats, they had to steeve their bowsprits to fit or drag her up the beach on logs with human-powered windlasses as she has a full keel.

Silvana 1997

Ladysmith, B.C. Silvana is a wooden offshore pocket cruiser sailboat. With 30’ on deck, it is safe, strong, comfortable, and unassuming.

Sir Isaac 1984

Port Townsend, WA Sir Isaac is a custom-built, cold-molded schooner rigged for short-handed offshore sailing. She’s more of a modern design for easy and efficient handling.

Everett, WA Solitude III is a small stitch-and-glue sailboat of the “PocketShip” design. She was built from plans starting in fall 2010 and was launched on September 4th, 2012.

Edmonds, WA The Sputterbug runabout is a newly constructed, classically-styled mahogany outboard boat with accents of Alaskan yellow cedar and design elements of purple heart, sapele, and leopard wood.

Port Townsend, WA A post-war pleasure craft design, St. Brendan boasts classic lines, large aft deck, large salon with big windows, and lots of gorgeous mahogany woodwork and trim.

Starlight 1971/1976 Port Townsend, WA Starlight was designed for Harvey Garett Smith in 1938 by Edwin Monk Sr. The keel was laid by Cecil M. Lange and Son in 1971. She is strip-planked Port Orford cedar on white oak frames and bronze fastened.

Stella 2015

Titlow Beach, WA Stella is a 17’ Whitehall rowing skiff handcrafted by Joe Titlow in 2015 from western red cedar and Sitka spruce using Gougeon clear finish composite technology.

Gig Harbor, WA Stormbird is an Ed Monk design, built in 1947 at the Skansie Brothers boat yard in Gig Harbor, WA.

Strait Talk 1947

Port Angeles, WA Strait Talk was built in 1947 at Friday Harbor of reclaimed Port Orford cedar on oak and has been repurposed to serve as a home base for a psychotherapy practice.

Susan Joanne 2013

Des Moines, WA The hull for the Susan Joanne was built by the owner and finished by Sam Devlin and his crew. The boat has a trailer so it could be towed north to the Inside Passage or south to California.

Suva 1925 Coupeville, WA Suva is a pilothouse schooner designed by noted Seattle naval architect Ted Geary. She was built in 1925 in Hong Kong from old growth teak for Coupeville, WA, resident Frank Pratt.

Symfoni 2021 Salem, OR Symfoni was built last year to a Chesapeake Light Craft design. Her double-ended hull and lug rig retains the timeless appeal of the type, while being revised considerably. Teal 1927 Seattle, WA Teal is the earliest example of a classic work boat design from the naval architects H.C. Hanson and Leigh Coolidge.

Tern 1970’s Orcas Island, WA Tern is a ‘70s barn-built boat from Lauren Giles blueprints of John Guzwald’s Trekka. Her home has been Orcas Island, WA, for the past 50 years.

Thelonius 1953

Seattle, WA Thelonius is a custom design by Ed Monk Sr. built in 1953 and based on an adapted ‘20s design. Her hull seams are gluewedged, not caulked, and her engine is under the aft cockpit.

Poulsbo, WA Tsunami, the 8’ Tiny Titan, is a classic 3-point hydroplane race boat designed by Glen L. Witt and raced in competition races by its 12 year old co-builder.

TugZilla 2020 Olympia, WA TugZilla was built as a harbor tug and has been working in the South Sound for the past year. She has a 110hp diesel engine, a dry stack, and overnight accommodations for two.

Tusitala 1981

Orcas Island, WA Tusitala is a 30.5’ gaff-rigged cutter commissioned as a one-off by Robert Saxton, designed by John Atkins, and launched in 1981 in Bath, ME. In 1996, the Saxtons completed a 10-year circumnavigation in Tusitala.

Varya 1940

Port Townsend, WA Varya is Russian for Barbara, the original boat owner’s wife’s name. She was designed to be a racer/cruiser so she is fast and comfortable. One of the few classic boats in the area with modern synthetic rope standing rigging.

Velella 1979

Seattle, WA Velella is the boat used by Wendy Hinman and Garth Wilcox during their 34,000 mile Pacific Ocean trip featured in her book Tightwads on the Loose.

Veteran 1926

Gig Harbor, WA Launched by Skansie Ship Building in 1926 and donated to Gig Harbor BoatShop in 2017, purse seiner Veteran is one of Gig Harbor’s most significant designs.

Viking Mariner 1955 Galiano Island, B.C. Viking Mariner is a 54’ retired drum seiner built by Mario Tara in Ladner, B.C., in 1955 and originally christened Mar Brothers. She is currently powered by a Detroit Diesel 6-110.

Vito Dumas 1933

Port Townsend, WA Vito Dumas was built in Buenos Aires in 1933 by Jose Parodi. She is an early design by Manuel Campos inspired by the Norwegian Type.

Walden 2022

Port Townsend, WA A replica of an 1845 16’ cutter from USS Massachusetts, the first U.S. steamer on Puget Sound, which arrived in 1850.

Wasabi 2014

Chico, CA Wasabi is a Penobscot 17 design by Arc Davis. Built from scratch over a 4 year period, she is a glued lapstrakeconstructed boat with marine plywood planking laid on fore and aft stringers.

Point Hudson, WA Waterstrider is a Chesapeake light craft skerry, stitch-and-glue double-ender with sprit rig.

Wayward Sun 2019 Bellingham, WA Wayward Sun is 100% solar-electric and emits no pollution, no odors, and is very quiet. Solar panels charge Torqeedo batteries. The motor is a 4kw Torqeedo pod drive. Shore power charging is rarely needed.

Whisper 1957

Tacoma, WA Whisper is a S&S Pilot series sloop built in Long Island, N.Y., and sailed in Maryland, Florida, and Puget Sound. She is mahogany-planked over oak frames with a 52’ mast.

Whistler 1992

Olympia, WA Whistler is a classic Devlin Surf Scoter restored by Devlin Boats in 2014 and again in 2021 (ongoing right now due to a fire onboard). She is well-loved by her current owners. Windsong 2019 Sequim, WA The idea for this glued lapstrake plywood hull with an oak interior and brass hardware came from three articles by Australia’s Ross Lillistone.

Windsong 1964 Anacortes, WA Windsong was built in Grapeview, WA, by a school teacher in 1964. The current owners bought her first in the 1980s, living aboard in Olympia and Anacortes. When they bought her, she was named Swagman and had baggywrinkles!

Wisper 2020 Quilcene, WA Wisper isn’t a misspelling. She is modeled after Wisp, a 1930s Monk-designed 18’ sloop that the current owner restored. Wisper is a modern, lighter, and faster version. She is cedar strip construction with a pedal drive.

Wonderland 1978

Gig Harbor, WA Sam Conner, the original founder of the Wooden Boat Festival, built Wonderland in Port Townsend in 1978 of red cedar/epoxy strip plank.
