2022 IS THE YEAR!
While the past few years may have taught us to take nothing for granted, we can expect a near-normal racing schedule in 2022! This notion brings hope and excitement beyond calculation for racers around the Salish Sea. There’s plenty to be psyched about in the coming year. 2021 showed us that absence made the heart grow fonder, with attendance and enthusiasm for many events ticking up from prepandemic levels. From RS Aero AND Tasar World Championship Regattas; to the returns of Southern Straits, Swiftsure, and R2AK; to a pair of Hawaii races with more PNW participation than any year in recent memory — this calendar is chock full of possibility. More thrilling than any calendar event, though, is the prospect that we can once again unite as a regional racing community, re-joining our friends for sailing fun and freely attending events across the U.S.-Canada border. I know I’m not alone when I say that I simply cannot wait to share the racecourse with my Canadian neighbors again. Our heartfelt thanks, as always, goes out to the scores of committed folks who help us create this document, and to the advertisers who make this whole thing possible. We strive for this document to be as accurate as possible, but it’s still a good idea to keep up with updates at 48north.com/sarc, in monthly issues of 48° North, and with the various events or organizers.

48° NORTH TOP 25
Distance races and around-the-buoys. Single-race events and multi-race regattas. The qualifying races for 48° North’s Top 25 have something for everyone. Scoring is on a percentage basis depending on the size of the class: 0% (did not finish) to 100% (first in class), where the event score = (Finishers – Place) / (Finishers – 1). Overall scores are an average of a boat’s best five finishes. There is no minimum number of races required to qualify. Multi-race events (like the South Sound Series) are scored as a single event. 11
