PROJECT EXPERIENCE

FOXTAIL ON THE LAKE 1177 HOWARD AVE.

ESG

Foxtail on the Lake involved transforming the former Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Des Plaines into a modern Mediterranean restaurant while preserving its historical architectural features. The 15,000-square-foot structure underwent extensive renovations, including the installation of a new 3,000-square-foot kitchen and a 5,000-square-foot outdoor patio overlooking Lake Opeka. We had to carefully integrate new HVAC, sprinklers, deck lighting, and a concrete pad for outdoor rentals while maintaining original elements like stained glass and historic lighting. The project required complex sequencing over 18 months to balance preservation with modern functionality. Collaboration with restaurateurs and designers ensured the facility met upscale dining standards without compromising the building’s character. Efforts were made to secure grants and permits, reflecting the community’s commitment to revitalizing a landmark while delivering a premium guest experience. This project exemplified adaptive reuse and sustainable construction in a highvisibility urban setting.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE

RAISING CANES These projects involved diverse construction projects including standalone restaurants with drive-thru lanes, adaptive reuse of vacant urban lots, and new builds with surface parking. Projects require precise sequencing, coordination of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems, and collaboration with local authorities. Achieving fast-track delivery while minimizing community disruption is key across growing locations reflecting the brand’s rapid expansion and urban development challenges.

GUZMAN Y GOMEZ The Guzman Y Gomez Des Plaines build exemplified efficient restaurant construction with attention to brand detail and schedule precision. Our team managed all phases from site prep and utilities to interior finishes and equipment installation. The project featured durable materials, detailed tilework, and a streamlined kitchen layout built for operational efficiency. Collaboration with designers and the client ensured brand consistency throughout the space. Despite weather and scheduling challenges, strong coordination and quality control delivered a vibrant, high-performing restaurant that supports Guzman Y Gomez’s continued expansion across Chicagoland.

AFTER This project was a sophisticated lounge and bar requiring expert coordination of design, equipment installation, and construction sequencing. The build involved creating a stunning centerpiece Tobin Ellis bar with backlit features, a banquet hall, and a versatile kitchen tailored for both small plates and catering. Close collaboration with owners, architects, and kitchen specialists ensured timely delivery despite space constraints and equipment lead times, resulting in an elegant, high-quality venue complementing neighboring fine dining establishments.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE

CRYING TIGER 51 W HUBBARD ST.

David Collins Studio

Crying Tiger Chicago brought a bold Southeast Asian dining concept to life through a complete transformation of a former restaurant space. Our team managed every phase—from demolition to final finishes —balancing modern design with functional efficiency. The build featured new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, a custom bar installation, high-end millwork, and a mix of natural wood and metal accents that reflect the restaurant’s vibrant brand. Coordination with culinary consultants ensured the kitchen layout supported high-volume service, while lighting and acoustic solutions enhanced the intimate dining experience. Working within tight urban site constraints required careful scheduling and collaboration with city inspectors and neighboring businesses. The result is a warm, immersive environment that blends cultural authenticity with contemporary design. Crying Tiger stands as an example of how thoughtful construction and precise execution can turn a creative restaurant vision into a dynamic Chicago destination.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE

JACKMAN & CO. This project involved construction of a new 5,800-square-foot gastropub and tavern on a previously vacant lot. The build required precise coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while preserving the historic feel of downtown Glenview. Timely sequencing of the exterior shell and interior fit-out ensured minimal disruption. Collaboration with the village and stakeholders was key to adhering to funding timelines and delivering a high-quality, upscale restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the river, honoring Glenview’s heritage and community identity.

TORO Constructing Toro Arizona at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess meant balancing modern design with operational efficiency in a high-traffic resort setting. The project involved integrating lush greenery, expansive windows, and custom finishes to create an inviting, upscale space that capitalizes on golf course views and indoor-outdoor flow. Careful coordination was required to accommodate restaurant infrastructure within an existing hospitality footprint, ensuring smooth service for large events. Durability, flexibility of kitchen systems, and premium details were essential to meet aesthetic and operational goals while attracting a broad clientele.

FEDERALES Federales Logan Square transformed the former Marcello’s Father & Son site into an 8,500-square-foot restaurant with a 2,790-square-foot outdoor patio. The project featured a retractable roof, modern HVAC installation, and industrial design elements. Precise sequencing was crucial to minimize disruption in the bustling Logan Square neighborhood. Collaboration with stakeholders ensured sound control, sustainability, and delivery of a vibrant tequila and taco bar with indoor-outdoor flexibility. The build balanced structural upgrades, mechanical systems, and interior finishes to create a high-energy urban dining destination.

LUXURY RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR Luxury Lifestyle Awards, 2024

Sunda Fulton Market presents an engaging project that blends functionality with striking visual appeal. Key priorities include executing the lush garden-inspired interiors, with carefully selected materials such as elegant tiling, warm woods, and Southeast Asian décor accents that reinforce the restaurant’s cultural theme. The openconcept layout must facilitate smooth kitchen flow and efficient service, supporting high guest volume without sacrificing comfort or style. PROJECT EXPERIENCE

UCHI

3821 N SCOTTSDALE RD

HAI DESIGN STUDIO The transformation of Uchi Scottsdale was both a technical and creative accomplishment. The renovation involved converting the former Bandera restaurant into a refined dining space that harmonizes Arizona’s warm, earthy tones with Japanese aesthetics. Key features included the installation of sculptural arched wood ceilings inspired by southwestern ramadas, custom tables, and flooring in sandy shades—all reflecting a sophisticated yet welcoming ambiance. Coordinating with Hai Design Studio, Hazelbaker Rush, and AV3 Design, the project required precision and adaptability, from integrating local and national artwork to ensuring the space suited a 207-seat dining room with patio and bar areas. Extra care was paid to finishes, lighting, and acoustics to foster both intimacy and energy. Every step, from sourcing materials to final installation, was focused on honoring the chef’s vision, Scottsdale’s vibrant culinary scene, and delivering an inviting, elevated experience for every guest.

It is a great pleasure of mine to recommend at the highest level I possibly can, 41 North Contractors for general contractors and construction work. The museum has been contracting with 41 North for more than the past eight years, and will continue based on their current and previous performance. On time and on budget are cliché used in our business way too often, but aptly applies to 41 North, plus a lot more. They become a partner, not just a vendor. They offer a complete array of general contractor services and manage the trades working simultaneously to the benefit of the client. They provide quality workmanship and very strong leadership for our construction projects. ...41 North stands up to the challenge and gets the work done without impacting our guests. 41 North is also very good at having a plethora of people offer advice but does not miss a beat with the challenges thrown at them.

If they have not done it before, no problem they will find away and relish in the endeavor of learning something new. I have worked on countless projects with them from small remodels to 14,000 sq. ft. ground up buildings and have never felt in better hands regardless of the scale of the project. I cannot recommend them enough, they are not only fair but truly have never let us down when it comes to deadlines or timing. A true gem in the field of construction.
