Achievements

Thanks for being our ‘get to know’ this month. I do have to start by letting you know, I shared these questions with my wife and three kids on a family phone call, so had some [rather lots of] help in answering these questions. I was a little amazed that my kids answered some of these so rapidly…

Where do you live? I live in Singapore, although travel frequently back to USA.

How long have you worked for 3M? I’ve worked for 3M a little over 30 years, which I still can’t believe. What have you felt most proud of accomplishing? Hands down the proudest moments of my career are those when I was able to promote somebody on my Team, help somebody achieve a position they highly aspired to, or help a Team accomplish more than they would have otherwise. To me it just doesn’t get more fun than that. What is your hidden talent? Now this one, my kids immediately shouted, “Fixing Stuff…anything”. My daughter then said, “Yeah, like extending the life of a broken food-blender by 25 years…with a big laugh... because it’s still being used today.” I do enjoy pretty much any type of problem solving.

Tell us about your family, who you live with? I live with my wife of 37 years, whom I met at the age of five years old…kinda crazy. My three kids, Zachary, Leah, and Jake are now through college and out on their own, so Lana and I would call ourselves “Empty Nesters”, and truth be told…we’re lov’n it! We are very much an outdoor, work hard/play hard kind of family…truly blessed in so many ways.

What is your favorite place to visit and why? We have a small cabin in Wisconsin that truly has become one of our favorite places. It’s a place full of nature and great place for family/friends to visit. We’ve never had a “bad day” at our cabin!

What things do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Oddly, once again, my kids shouted “Fixing Stuff”. We are a major “Do-It-Yourself” kind of family, so all kinds of home remodeling projects both inside and out are always fun. Another use of my spare time, I just finished 365 days in a row using Duolingo, a smart-phone language app, where I’ve been practicing Spanish.

Would you Rather – winter or summer for the rest of your life and why? Absolutely Summer! The hotter and more humid….the better and if we can mix that next to a lake or ocean even better yet.

If money was no issue at all, what would you buy? Honestly, I’d likely build a large workshop, very full of all the latest tools, in an awesome place, of course to which you’d all be invited to come over and use…. to fix your stuff.
