This project started as a search into perfection, a concept based upon perception and perspectives. I got caught up in the idea of life being a drag, a facade that we put on and as I delved into the art of drag I became inspired by illusion. Using distorted images, deemed to be ‘perfect’, my piece represents my perception of perfection in the body, presented on the exterior.

I have been interested in the shortterm detachment from our immediate surroundings we feel when our mind wanders. What triggers this partial substitute of reality? A wandering mind can be destructive in the most crucial moments and the boxes demonstrate the essential need for control and order over our attention systems. The wire is used to translate a sense of fragility by delicately holding the arrangement together.

Composing 60% of the human body, blood is the essence of life. The body consists of flesh and blood.

My hereditary high cholesterol level inspires the clotted blood pattern in the design. My condition is a presence that restricts me and my lifestyle on a daily basis. The shoe is designed to distort the shape and movement of the foot. The bridge between the heel and body of the shoe represents the journey of life and death, a constant reminder of the risks and the symptoms of this disease. Ultimately, I hope to remind the public of the risks in blood disorders and the harm of unhealthy habits.

Depersonalisation disorder is a physiological effect usually caused by stress that allows people to feel strangeness of their surroundings and themselves. Who am I? Where am I? Those questions will cross their mind when the disorder happens. They look like they black out, but in their own perception everything seems from another strange world.

Human determination to live is extraordinarily strong, even in the most impossible situations. In a world of fear and destruction it is important to showcase the survival mechanisms and strengths demonstrated by victims during the Holocaust. Despite the constraints, these victims remained warriors and fought for their survival. My piece portrays this powerful message of strength, courage and optimism.

In this project I took the title ‘Loss of Hair’ and looked the emotional and social consequences of hair loss and the extremes an individual will pursue to correct this stigma. I made this head piece which involves wearer’s own hair, creating a space for it to interact with the manufactured extra hair. The piece is intended to demonstrate to the emphasis society places on hair as a means of selfexpression and personal identity.

Nowadays people get expensive orthodontic treatments to have ‘pretty’ teeth. This piece conveys how money is used to prevent judgment.

My project conveys my attitude towards the comfort zone, which acts like a mushroom, providing temporary comfort and security to the creatures it shelters whilst trapping them. I want to create a process that breaks out of the comfort zone and ‘makes the mushroom crumble’.

My piece is inspired by mirror neurons. This is how humans are subconsciously connected. With an inbuilt neurological response, we empathise and mirror what we see others do. When we see someone yawn, we yawn; smile, we smile; cry, we cry. In my collection of gloves, the ends of these strings from the different skins attach magnetically, symbolic of the same automatic, and at times involuntary, connection we make without even thinking.

Here, people are like balloons on the verge of being broken, collapsing on account of the fickleness which envelops the city, making us feel lost.

Pill strips are a wasteful and overlooked product. Inspired by aromatherapy I wanted to turn the strips into more profound, sacred objects, that heal in a different way than synthetic medicine would or ever could.

When they see these keepsakes, what is the emotional change in perception of the object? I want to use jewellery to explore the meaning and symbolism that people attach to objects and the emotional content of a keepsake.

For this project I want to reveal the closed society and cultural atmospheres in China. One phenomenon is that we cannot visit foreign websites. The cultural transmission is limited strictly by the government. Sometimes I would even imagine that I am living inside a huge cocoon, wrapped so tightly that I cannot see the outside world.

Coexistence is the survival of two parasites. One cannot exist without the other. There is a parasite living off the wearer. This piece represents the symbiotic relationship between the wearer and the piece. The two are enhanced by the power of the interaction.

I aim to place traditional culture in a modern context. One half represents the traditional Indian jewellery made of gold, the other a more graffiti youth style. The separation between the two pieces signifies the distinction between the modern and traditional.

However, when they are united, they form a complete circle sharing the same motif. This shows that though culture changes constantly it still retains elements of the traditional.

This project is about reclaiming the derogative words thrown to the LGBTQ+ individuals and how to gain power by taking these words back into your own control. I looked into the history of violence against gays and lesbians and how they have risen back from it. My work is inspired by the graphic signs of hate speech from the Westboro Baptist church. I am interested in the social culture of accepting the LGBTQ+ community within areas such as Football, as well as in iconic drag queens and the history of the ‘rise’ of drag culture.

Memento Mori is the medieval Christian notion: ‘remember (that) you will die’, reminding people to reflect on and prepare for the inevitable. The fact of death will always be with you and, like a stone in your shoe, will be difficult to adjust to - hence the lack of wearability of the toe ‘cups’.

These fragile porcelain and copper ringed pieces bridge the gap between life and death, familiarising the two contrasting states of being, forcing the wearer to adapt around the jewellery.

This brooch was inspired by the relationship between technology and traditional crafts in modern society.

While hand crafts and machinery now coexist and are often used to benefit one another, the industrialisation of these skills also results in mass produced pieces that lack a personal connection. The hand embroidered eyes, held inside a machine-like frame, provide this connection between the maker and the brooch.

Anxiety affects everyone in some shape or form over the course of life. It is often experienced alongside other mental disorders such as depression and substance abuse that tend to have a larger impact on your life. Anxiety, if not treated carefully, can onset other mental disorders, which can spiral out of hand. The repetitive actions of counting and clicking are designed to help you meditate in anxious times.

But we face the danger of losing a sense of humanity, emotional connection and investment in culture. The purpose of my piece is to draw attention to the seemingly insignificant details that make up human nature. To celebrate imagination, colour and texture in a raw way opposed to the sophistication of fine jewellery.

My collection explores what it is to be a young, sexually active homosexual.

Exposing links between age, sexuality and promiscuity, whilst subtly suggesting aspects of submission, control or subservience through the beaded marionette suspended from the necklace.

The playful nature of age and promiscuity is suggested through the positioning on the body, with focus being where a man would ejaculate, in both the hand and around the neck as a figurative ‘pearl necklace’.

Can you control your nightmares?

I wish I could. Growing up with dream anxiety disorder has led me to create this piece with the purpose of trapping the fear, yet releasing oneself from that unique dimension.

Twitching movements between the upper body and the moon-arc shaped structure rings the bell, triggering the awakening of oneself from the nightmares caught between the mobile spheres. Now, have a beautiful dream.

This project is about the creatures under the sea. The scales, fin and the fish bone are interesting in that they can adapt to extreme environments.

Sometimes human beings put up with much pressure and many challenges, feeling suffocated as a result. If we act like sea creatures, we will be able to adapt to a variety of difficult environments.

In society nowadays, we are so busy that having a little fun becomes a luxury. I hope people can enjoy themselves as they did in childhood.

To encourage playfulness, there are no limitations on how to wear these papier-mâchÊ structures or the number of people involved. I look forward to seeing how people interact with my work. The marbles are a nostalgic reference to play and the need to cooperate in games. And just to enjoy making a lot of noise.

My design represents the union between two individuals and the preciousness of marriage. It shows the benefits of getting married with the right person: we become as one by both being willing to sacrifice part of ourselves to make the bond stronger and better. Through the mirror, we could see ourselves connected to each other, in order to create a sense of ‘I see him/her in you’.

I would like to encourage people to break the struggles that life brings even when the reality crushed the ideal down. The finger wings mean to ‘fly’, to face and overcome the harsh reality. The way how you wear this piece is to locate it right on the place where your heart is, and the finger wings are flying out of it.

The focus of my project is the Chinese Myth of ‘The Nine Coloured Deer’. The myth eulogises about the beauty of personality, and that people who are jealous and hateful should receive punishment. The two parts of my outcome represent the two sides of this story. There will always be a conflict between purity & honesty and envy & selfishness. The piece shows that you can’t destroy a thing of beauty.

Affluenza is a term used by critics of consumerism. I am trying to express people’s struggle for chasing wealth by interaction between the wearer and the hand accessory, which can also be worn as a pin on cloth.

There are many people who abandon their pets because they didn’t know that having pets is not easy - it takes money, time, space and patience.

Through my work I am trying to show that we are constrained by the responsibility of having pets. The cage is not closed, because we can easily escape from this responsibility, staying or not, it depends on you.

The fluidity conveyed by the morphology of the pieces, captures the frantic, fast-paced attempt of science to defeat mortality. The green stone Jade symbolises immortality and stands for the people who are currently preserved.
