Jewellery, Our Final Invention A performance piece exploring the Footwear concept of artificial intelligence – the exhibited by machines + Fashion intelligence or software, threatening mankind’s existence. I was intrigued by the Accessories question of why, humans, being

the creators of artificial intelligence, lack the control needed to avoid an AI overrule.

The piece follows an origami structure that enables some parts of it to move, revealing green elements that, when filmed on the green screen, function to make the wearer become digital material by disappearing in pixels. The movement of the piece indicates how humans are responsible for their gradual disappearance as they are the creators of their destructors.

Individual

divide people into territories with invisible fences. When individuals cross the line, society labels these minorities ‘wrong’, ‘abnormal’, ‘deviant’ and ‘perverse’. The real character of each individual is held back because of pressure from social unspoken rules. The central part represents each individual and it is painted with a spectrum of colour suggesting non-binary gender expression and by allowing the wearer to adjust the position of the piece, everyone should have the right to choose the way they want to present themselves to the world – a man to exhibit a female aspect of themselves and vice versa.

Pretend

‘Pretending’ is a behaviour that Accessories someone conceals something

to hide the truth. My aim is to demonstrate that we do not always show the truth to others while the information we receive is not always real.

To translate this abstract concept into a piece of jewellery, I used reflection and movable structure as the development direction. The wooden cubes are connected together with hinges on every two single pieces. With seven mirrors installed in cubes, it creates infinite reflecting patterns.

Modular

I researched about children’s interactive games and toys. These games and toys are designed to help children to learn about expand concepts, reinforce development, or assist them in learning a skill as they play. Such as building blocks, LEGO, Jenga and Jigsaws. These games are the basic study of modularisation in our life. I chose to use such a colourful mix of colours to attract children and to remind them the joy they have had while having sweets when they are young.

Loss

– Shengyi Progression BA (Hons) Jewellery Design, Chen. Central Saint Martins Loss Jewellery, were massively affected by Footwear Children World War Two. Nearly two million children were evacuated from their + Fashion homes at the start of the war; had to endure rationing, Accessories children gas mask lessons and living with

strangers. The impact of evacuation on children depended to an extent on which social strata you were in at the time. Parents who had access to money invariably made their own arrangements. Children at private schools based in the cities tended to move out to manor houses in the countryside where children at that school could be, in the main, kept together. But 1.9 million children gathered at rail stations in early September not knowing where they were going, nor if they would be split from brothers and sisters who had gathered with them.

Many children had a wonderful experience with their new ‘families’ in the countryside, but sadly others did not. Homesickness was the main problem for children in that tough time. Hopefully, this playful jewellery can help children in that time stop feeling abandoned.

Stranger

on the performance, The Artist is Present by Mariana Abramovic, this project aims to explore the emotions that could be provoked by a stranger. An unexpected encounter with a stranger may trigger palpitation of one’s heart or bring about significant changes to one’s heart electrical activity patterns. This project attempts to visually depict this phenomenon when two individuals or strangers encounter and communicate.

Journey

I explored emotions and how they Accessories different can be connected with my life and from this I found that pain was a huge emotion in my life. My project is inspired by the pain of losing a family member, who taught me so much, the biggest being to dance.

My design involves a lot of sharp, painful elements, as I aimed to show the pain from the ballet dance and how I felt from losing that someone within my work.

Poetry

Martins Jewellery, Body Poetry Footwear My work is based on the biography of the 19th Century French poet, Arthur + Fashion Rimbaud. I wanted to tell the story of such a profound artist through three distinct Accessories pieces: The first piece is about Rimbaud’s birth, which is incredibly relevant in his work.

He was born in a home above a library and a forgery. Books and heat. Is it a coincidence?

The second piece is a reflection of his life in Paris, in the heart of the creative community, the Bohemia. Facing the contrast of the rich bourgeoisie and the poor bohemian life, they are respectively represented through reversible opulent and simple fabrics.

The last one represents the latter part of his life when he stopped writing poetry and travelled. He went through Africa, searching for prosperity. Verlaine used to call him “the man with the windy soles”.

Growth

to a pearl, every life is growing with pain physically or mentally throughout time. However, some marks of growth, like cocoons, stretch marks, pearls and snake skin after ecdysis etc. are left behind signifying the passage of time and proof of transformation and new beginnings. I want people to remember the pain and scabs in the growth of those marks. It is a hopeful experience that gives way to rebirth. We are growing into better versions of ourselves – stronger, tougher, and more mature.

I made the piece that would make the person who wears it feel what it’s like to be a ‘psycho’.

an unusual kind of human body— conjoined twins. This was seen as a kind of disease in the medical field or a special job in the circus in the past. These special people are still treated differently from others in the present. Only one extra limb would make people feel weird even disgusted. However, I attempted to examine them with the artistic view and it turned out to be an unexpected surprise. I decided to use geometrical shapes to present the symmetry of the conjoined body in my outcome.

she showed the before and after makeup, and told people her story: “When I go outside, people always look at me, and say what is wrong with her?” When I saw this video, I was wondering why people are not accepting of vitiligo sufferers?

If everyone has vitiligo and a few people haven’t, what is kind of that world? For this project, I designed in different sizes to show vitiligo’s patterns. Vitiligo is a special beauty. I hope people can better understand vitiligo from my work.

Jewellery, Made in Holland Footwear thinking about Holland, the + Fashion When first thing that come to mind was cheese, paintings, tulips, the red Accessories light district and drugs. Besides

this, Holland has a rich culture in fashion and accessories. From over-decorated dresses to blood coral necklaces we were over-thetop in the old days. Over the years we are losing our own identity and style by trying to copy other western cultures.

In this project I used the shape of a popular brooch from the 17th and 18th century as an inspiration to reclaim our culture by integrating traditional details to my designs, preserving the culture.

Crown

This contrasts with the idea that a bride’s headdress signifies the loss of innocence and the triumph of love.

I was drawn to the issue of young/forced marriages within Turkish Cypriot culture, prior the 1950’s, as a result of my research into traditional Turkish Cypriot brides and the varied headpieces, and I am interested in these issues because of my Turkish Cypriot heritage.

I have incorporated an Ottoman patterned element within my headpiece with an application of gold leaf to reflect the richness within Turkish Cypriot culture and their weddings.

Deformation of the bones is a common cause of foot problems that will change your walking posture. You can have ‘duck feet’ or be ‘pigeon-toed’ – your feet will turn in or splay outward when you walk and cause the pain in the foot.

The heel and sole have to support the weight of the body while in motion or standing. By spreading the contact area across the arch, I will reduce the pressure on the foot and release restrictions on the ankle.

Jewellery, Footwear Open + Fashion The world is categorised by things are identified easily, by looks Accessories that or words or thoughts. These

categories are arranged into visible and invisible things to be put into ‘boxes’, which makes them easier to control. Like a ‘framing or ‘outline’ that makes a label. Frame and outline are similar things but what I feel is totally different. A frame has a limit and cannot change its basic scale, but the outline could be out and inside of the frame so it could keep connecting with this society.

How to connect the blurred area of our communication. Make a ‘new outline’ to link was my initial idea but I re-acknowledged that not think about connecting point but to be open my door. When I desire to build new thing, the best was always broke myself or move to another.

Then infinity of human movement and emotion will bloom and push forward - ‘break the outline’ is my answer.

Touch

Body, Touch & Movement Jewellery, Footwear + Fashion Accessories

This project is all about personal aura – boundaries that every human being has. It’s all about what your boundaries are, who you allow through them and how breaking this boundary can break all relationships, as on personal and also on a national or racial level.

My accessories are designed with an idea of these boundaries, where people have power in the hands (wrist bracelets) to create a necessary space between each other (invisible plastic shank) which will let them to freely express themselves but stay with each other and love each other at the same time as human beings.

These wrists and shanks are the metaphor for a personal power that lets people connect and create necessary boundaries to avoid undesired personal disturbance.

Inspiration for these accessories came from reading psychology books on relationships and watching artistic style of dance called ‘contact improvisation’, where people are merging together in one dance, completing each other through their bodies, and move as one organism, that instinctively knows what to do and where to go next.

The deep idea of contact improvisation is to hold an invisible ball between two partners during the dance. That gave me an idea to use a plastic rod as a foundation for my jewellery piece as a symbol of balance between people, so that they can freely express themselves without disturbing their own personal space.

Footwear My intention for the project is to create a fashion shoe, inspired by + Fashion my all time favourite musician, Paul Among all of his amazing Accessories Gilbert. works, I selected one album called

Fuzz Universe. According to him, the album contains lots of notes, so if every note on the album could changed into sand, it would fill up 72 buckets. Also, ‘Fuzz’ representative of the sound from an electric guitar. So, in short, Fuzz Universe means endless notes of an electric guitar in the album. The concept reminded me the ‘Möbius strip’, so I applied it on the shape of the sole. Also, upper sole and other parts embodies his guitar gears and my view about him, as my muse.

Especially, the tongue and crossed strap’s shape shows ‘sign of the horn’, which contains my respect toward the great rock&roll hero.

Rise

was to design a functional bag for the everyday man. I wanted the bag to promote usability, functionality and, convenience. I discovered that a large amount of men would carry a bag if the bag also carried a function for example, a charging device. Our electronic devices have gained more and more importance in our lives, therefore I added a solar panel which can charge a phone or iPad, when outside. Not only is this useful, but it doesn’t waste energy like charging a phone normally would and it’s also ‘on the go’ which is highly convenient.

Being different such as having a body modification can be a personal preference, but also a way to seek attention. I believe bringing the wearers into the limelight increases their sense of existence. This has lead me to create conspicuous designs that change the shape of the wearer’s face in order to receive more attention from the others.

The wearer can decide which of the three mouthpieces to wear depending on how much attention he/she wants to receive.

that every individual has such experience. Therefore, don’t be scared to be laughed at, have a positive mentality to react and understand.

This theme has led me to research about unwanted body hair which is an issue that most of us care about.

I chose to exaggerate the hair on the face because it’s somewhere that is harder to hide and would give people an important first impression.

The humour is to inspire people in treating embarrassment in an easy way and it is also to challenge the conventional perception of jewellery. Does jewellery has to be athletically pleasing? Can it be entertaining and unexpected?

Design aims to provide a variety of products that cater for a range of people, yet the visually deprived seem to remain pretty much unrepresented in the jewellery world. So I explored jewellery that was not solely based on aesthetic, but appealed to other senses like sound and touch, resulting in pieces that are heard or felt in interesting ways to allow both the blind and sighted people new ways of experiencing jewellery design.

Hyokyeong Ma. Leave Me Alone Jewellery, (Animals’ Revenge) In this project, I explored how Footwear animals suffer and the cruelty inflict on animals. People + Fashion humans believe that we are free to use animals for our own purpose and Accessories pleasure. However, they feel pain,

love, excitement and every other emotions that we humans feel.

Through my jewellery I wanted an opportunity to give a voice to animals that are unable express their emotions to humans. Animals have strong talons and teeth. They use them to protect themselves from the enemy and it is how they attack humans when they are threatened.

From this concept, I produced jewellery pieces that reflect animals’ revenge on humans, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Materials used: 925 Silver and Pearls.

Location

I wanted to represent the different cultures, ethnicity, people and the community itself. I decided to carry out my own research which involved interviewing residents of Ilford including friends, family and shop keepers of Ilford Lane. My reason for choosing to interview shop keepers of Ilford Lane was because it’s the most popular lane of Ilford and a lane which is mostly dedicated to a mixture of cultures and tradition, mainly Indian and Pakistani.

their aspiration to control their emotions. Smoke and anxiety are similar – anxiety grows in the same way that smoke rises. The straight lines made by stripes and pleats in the garment represent the smoke and anxiety. In addition the top aluminium chrysalis stands for the struggle to control fear.

Hidden

Jewellery, Hidden Spaces My project is about places that we Footwear don’t see, places that we never e.g. inside of your pencil + Fashion mention, case, behind the wall or underneath chair. I am interested in all Accessories your the things around us. I started to explore different types of damage: cracks on the walls, floors and everywhere. I think sometimes it is not fair that people think if something is damaged there is no more sense to keep it. One of my main interests were the cracks in walls. I started to develop a serious of photos with different cracks that I found interesting and for this project I chose the special one – the crack from the Central Saint Martins wall, where I made my first steps in art.

My final piece is a brooch that can be used in different ways. You can wear it to create your own spaces with the cloths, or like a separate detail.

Jewellery, Protection: An Everyday Battle Footwear It started with the constant feeling of being drained, feeling + Fashion depressed, getting stomach cramps and skin rashes. These Accessories were the consequences of my

Coeliac condition. Having only been diagnosed in November, I wanted to explore what has become my everyday battle. This gluten intolerance triggers multiple temptations and by working with the thing I fear most has helped me overcome them.

The small intestine is the area of my body most affected by this condition. We can often take things we don’t see in our body for granted so I worked to highlight this organ.

By designing and moulding to represent a healthy intestine I have learnt to embrace and overcome the envious desire to have a healthy digestive system.

Fear

Tapping meridian points

on the upper body and hands one stimulates the brain and regains emotional control thus making the fear disappear.

These pieces represent fear and the constant fight against it. From the outside the jewel looks very aggressive evoking savage animal ear aesthetics and also a hint of some terror movies characters.

The inside, though, allows the user to apply and experience the TFT technique, allowing the piece be used as a counter measure towards fear.

So, I want to make a travelling bag to cheer teenagers who are the same as me, to see the different country, to explore different cultures, to pursue dreams with a pure heart just like the unknown ultimate source.

Selfish

It is based the Chinese one-child policy Accessories on that has changed recently so that families can have a second child if one of the parents is the single child in their family. There has been a lot of debate since the law has changed, and recently there has been the shocking news that a 13 year-old girl threatened suicide if her parents didn’t give up the second child (baby) in her mom’s stomach.

I made the head-piece based on the news to show people that the girl’s self-willed behaviour and her parents’ spoiling her stopped her from letting others enter her own world and made her a selfish monster.

Accessories The innovative material which I have

designed and made is not only an aesthetically beautiful piece of textile, but is also a representation of diligence, perseverance, submissiveness and patience.

The laborious hand work totalled 368 hours, 56 minutes, consisting predominantly of hand stitching leather.

The concept of this project is centralised around the title ‘Off the Paper’ – transforming a flat illustration into a 3D form.

Spring

bag. I used lamb’s leather because cause it has a really nice texture.

I combined the chopsticks with my bag. The chopsticks can make the bag stand. The flower made from leather on the bag is from a special Chinese button. There is a small button for the lock. I uses the colours red, black and gold on this bag because they are complementary. Bag design is the best choice for me – I am proud of the final outcome.

These wrist pieces are to represent the young and old. Over time the ink inside leaks through the plaster staining the walls, it is an irreversible process and leaves only the silhouette as a trace of what was there before.

Jewellery, The Talking Flowers most vivid memories of my Footwear The childhood are of my Grandmother’s beautiful garden in England. To me it + Fashion was an impression of a wonderland. blossoming flowers and their Accessories The vibrant colours would come to life.

It was a an enchanting experience, completely different from the metropolitan surroundings I grew familiar with in Hong Kong. I have interpreted this fond memory into a textiles statement necklace. This was done by using hand dyed silk fabrics and Japanese shibori textures to create my own floral wonderland.

the Theory of the Multiverse, which suggests, “Our universe could be one bubble in a frothy sea of universes.” The papier mâché spheres represent just a fraction of the other universes that could be out there, and the brass sphere represents our universe, our place within the universal realm.

Yun Wu. Jewellery, Footwear + Fashion The Passion of Modern Vehicles Through research I gradually started Accessories to appreciate the movements and

revolutions in vehicle design. My design was deeply influenced

by Futurism and Cubism. In this design I was mainly focusing on bicycles, by disassembling and reassembling the bicycle parts to recreate to abstract form and structure, following by fitting the surfaces to form my bag. I used three main materials: metal, leather and wood to glorify and emphasise that how these materials can be displayed and reformed into a modern structure. My bag depicts the power and fury of modern vehicles. The bag is designed for a girl who is active, sensational and optimistic.

Fusion

– Bona Yoon. Progression BA Jewellery Design, Central Saint Jewellery, Martins Fusion in the Space Between Footwear Body Movement + Fashion Jewellery, as I define it is to build a structure on the human body Accessories as architects build a structure on

a certain place of land. I think of the body as the framework for an architectural structure. Diverse movements are combined together to form a complete shape or structure. Consecutive movements contribute an even more complete structure. Based on the framework of the body, by designing a structure in spaces in-between movements, the structure is being completed.

state myself, I have been excited by it.

This piece of jewellery is to make people feel as though they are drunk. Users can see a dizzying world through the accessories.

Alternatively, you can change the colour of the accessories depending on the different mood. For example, falling in love is represented by warm coloured acrylic blocks which indicate the sweetness and happiness people feel when they fall in love where dark coloured acrylic sheets represent the sadness of a heart broken person when love is gone.

Jewellery, Footwear Infanticide Infanticide means the phenomenon that + Fashion females or males kill the newborn babies.

According to the researches from scientists, and birds are more commonly eat Accessories fishes their own eggs than other animals.

When I was doing my research, I found a video, Self-sacrificing Fish; I had a fresh perspective to understanding infanticide. I realised animals could also do anything for their offspring, even sacrifice themselves. I would like to believe the reason for those animals committing infanticide is based on survival of the fittest. The shortage of food, shortage of space, or threatens from outside environments force infanticide.

Animals have to choose to kill some of their children in order to save the rest. So I am trying to use my jewellery piece to uncover the truth of infanticide and tell everyone who sees this jewellery to feel about how struggled animals are and how great the love of animals is.

Each person is an individual with his or her own way of expressing emotion and there is no right way to feel and react, so I think how much to trust depends on the sincerity of each side. As the besties get along longer and their attitudes towards the other changes, the shape of the relationship will be like a triangle.

The triangle is the strongest shape.
