Cultural Heritage Sri Lanka is an island nation with a rich cultural heritage that dates back over 2500 years. Sporting Life Sporting life in Sri Lanka is a significant part of the Sri Lankan culture. Though Volleyball is the national sport, Cricket is the most popular - drawing world recognition after Sri Lanka brought home the 1996 World Cup. Blessed with many striking cricketers, Sri Lanka never fails to produce more aspiring talent. Cricket is one thing carried in the hearts of all Sri Lankans which transcends any form of difference.

Although mainly popular in the school level, Sri Lanka is now being recognized for their performances in the international level. The school level rugby season is almost as popular as the cricket season and there’s a lot of cheering and revelry on the streets as schools scrum down against each other. Wild Escapades The wildlife in Sri Lanka is as varied as the island itself. From elephants, sloth bears and leopards to reptiles and amphibians to birds and butterflies and more. Brown Roots Browns Root, the environmental passion project of Ceylon Roots and Browns Tours seeks to reverse the severe deforestation occurring in Sri Lanka. The project pledges to plant one tree on behalf of every traveler booking through the company. Its vision is to inspire travelers all over the world to help local communities by planting a tree as a token of gratitude and respect of being a part of their community.

The quiet town of Ragala, immersed with scenic tea plantations was the selected inception of the Brown Roots Project. In selecting the land to begin our passion project we wanted to ensure it adds considerable value to the local community, has scope for future expansion and most importantly support from the local community. The land, which is part of the Liddesdale Estate, Ragala is situated between Udapusselawa-Nuwara Eliya road and the main road from Ragala to Kandy.

Another key strategic decision in selecting the scenic location was that it provided easy accessibility.

Our local and international volunteers would find it very simple to locate the project coordinates and be involved in planting the trees. Towards the middle, you would find a natural water stream that provides water to the local community. The trees planted through our project proves to be immensely beneficial in sustaining this natural water stream.
