OCALA RHYTHM FEST GETS DOWN AND LETS LOOSE.

Celebrate the last weekend of May and welcome summer with a soulful vibe at a family-friendly outdoor music festival at Webb Field.
Ocala Rhythm Fest is a free event lled with live music, local vendors, food trucks and kids’ zone activities presented by the City of Ocala on Saturday, May 30, from 11am-5pm.
Nationally known bands and regional favorites will take the stage for a full afternoon of performances.
The lineup includes The Family Stone, “the only group o cially authorized by Sly Stone to preserve and perform the music of Sly & The Family Stone,” according to the band’s website. Founding member and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Martini leads the band that is widely known for its memorable combination of funk, soul, rock, R&B and psychedelia.
Also performing are The
Sensational Barnes Brothers with a lively blend of gospel and soul. The brothers are featured on Don Bryant’s Grammy-nominated album Don’t Give Up on Love and released their rst album of original material last year.
Led by saxophonist, educator and arts administrator Aaron L. Watson III, The Pharaohs of Funk engages audiences with its distinct blend of jazz, soul and reggae in uences.
Ocala Steel Orchestra showcases the distinctive steel pan music of the Caribbean, bringing island air to contemporary favorites for an upbeat, rhythmic performance.
The City of Ocala’s Recreation and Parks Department debuted several new events this spring, including Ocala Rhythm Fest.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON THE COURT.
Pickleball is considered the country’s fastest growing sport, with participation exploding over 220 percent in the last three years.
Although extremely popular with older players, more than 70 percent of players are 18 to 44 years old. Some of those players compete in the Special Olympics. Yes, pickleball is a Special Olympics sport.
On Top of the World (OTOW) has about 700 members in its pickleball club. Some of those members are also passionate about volunteering to help Special Olympics players master the sport.
“I’ve been a volunteer for three years, which is how long pickleball has been a Special Olympics sport,” says Rick Cope, an OTOW
resident and pickleball club member. “In 2023, our club was in charge of the skills competition, which are for players who don’t necessarily play games. Some are even in wheelchairs.”
In addition to volunteering however needed, Rick and his wife, Tammy, both became certified Special Olympics pickleball coaches.
“As a volunteer or coach, you might think we’re helping the athletes, but there’s not enough coaching I could do to exceed what they’ve given me personally,” says Tammy.
“It’s been a fantastic thing for us to be involved in,” says Rick. “These athletes and their families have become like a second family to Tammy and me.”

Volunteers of all ages are always welcome—for just a day or ongoing. You don’t need to know anything about the sport to volunteer.
“Pickleball volunteers can help with so many things—setting up, tearing down, officiating the sport, coordinating the awards, general support and athlete support,” says Damien McNeil, regional director, Northwest & Northeast, of Special Olympics Florida. “Volunteers can support as many days as they want. It
does not have to be a multiple day effort.”
The best way to volunteer is to reach out to the community engagement team and register online.
“We are always looking for volunteers to support our events so that the athletes can have the best experience possible,” says Damien. “The more volunteers we have providing critical support, the better our events run and the better the experience we can provide for Special Olympics athletes.”

Ocala’s dining scene is on a roll, with new restaurants opening across the 352 and bringing fresh energy with them. From classic American comfort food to globally inspired avors, this mix of newcomers covers everything from laid-back bites to more elevated, date-night-ready dining. Whether you’re planning brunch, lunch or dinner, there’s no shortage of spots to t the occasion. That makes it easier than ever to treat Mom on Mother’s Day or to plan a night out that feels a little more special. As the area continues to grow, so does the
list of places worth trying, giving locals plenty of reasons to grab a table somewhere new. Here’s our roundup of new restaurants across the 352 to add to your must-try list.
Dining Debuts at the World Equestrian Center
This past December, The Equestrian Manor at the World Equestrian Center unveiled the rst two dining concepts within its fourrestaurant collection: The Polo Pony and Emma’s Patisserie at The Equestrian Manor. And then in
late January, WEC completed The Equestrian Manor’s four-restaurant collection with the opening of The White Willow and Genievieve’s. These four dining destinations o er re ned American, bold Pan-Asian and romantic Italian cuisine, along with a second Emma’s Patisserie, within the property’s newest luxury event and hospitality venue, and bring distinct culinary experiences to WEC’s already impressive dining portfolio.
“World Equestrian Center–Ocala o ers a wide range of dining experiences that re ect the scale and quality of the property itself,” says Leah Tong, director
of marketing and brand strategy with WEC Ocala. “Across the resort, guests will nd everything from elevated ne dining to casual, family-friendly options. Longstanding favorites include Stirrups, our signature steakhouse, and Yellow Pony Pub & Garden, both located in The Equestrian Hotel.” With the recent opening of The Equestrian Manor, WEC has expanded its culinary o erings even further, and now there’s truly something for every occasion. Guests can enjoy a re ned dinner experience at Stirrups or Genievieve’s, a relaxed meal with friends at The Polo Pony or The
White Willow or a quick lunch at Filo’s Mexican Cantina.
“We’ve intentionally built a mix of atmospheres, from upscale and romantic to casual and social,” says Leah, “so whether someone is celebrating a special occasion, grabbing lunch during the horse shows or enjoying a night out, they can nd a setting that ts.”
WEC rst opened in 2020. From the beginning, dining has been an important part of the guest experience. Early o erings included the fast-casual restaurants, such as Ralph’s Burger & Sandwich Shop, followed by those inside The Equestrian Hotel: Stirrups, Yellow Pony Pub & Garden and Emma’s Patisserie. These locations helped establish the foundation for what has become a much broader culinary program across the property.
“As the property has grown, we’ve been intentional about expanding our dining in a way that adds variety and depth,” says Leah. “The goal wasn’t just to add more restaurants but to introduce new cuisines and settings that give guests more reasons to return, and to stay on property longer. With the latest additions, we focused on bringing rooftop experiences, chef-driven menus and more destination-style dining that appeals not only to our equestrian guests but also to our leisure travelers and to the local community.'
The four new concepts at The Equestrian Manor each o er something distinct. The Polo Pony o ers elevated American fare for lunch and dinner, featuring a sophisticated dining room, an outdoor patio and a large bar. Emma’s Patisserie builds o the success of the original location, o ering an expanded menu within an ambiance of old-world elegance. On the rooftop, Genievieve’s o ers a romantic Italian dining experience, while The White Willow brings a vibrant pan-Asian concept with a sushi bar and open-air rooftop patios. Together, they create a dynamic mix of experiences that
feel both cohesive and unique.
The Polo Pony celebrates America’s diverse culinary heritage with elevated tavern classics and inventive chef-driven dishes for lunch and dinner. The sophisticated dining room, large bar, spacious private dining spaces and lively outdoor patio set the stage for bold avors, ranging from butterpoached mini lobster rolls and duck con t fries to a pastrami stack sandwich and buttermilk fried chicken and wa es. Guests can enjoy indulgent Certi ed Angus Beef burgers big enough for two alongside seasonal salads, creative sides and rich desserts like a 16-layer chocolate cake, all paired with a cold pour from the 32-tap beer program. With a focus on bold avors, premium ingredients and artful presentation, The Polo Pony o ers a welcoming dining experience for any occasion.
Emma’s Patisserie has been incredibly popular since it rst opened inside The Equestrian Hotel, so expanding it was a natural next step, according to Leah. The new location o ers an expanded menu and a more immersive café experience with indoor and outdoor seating. Guests will nd delightful house-made pastries and artisanal desserts, along with creamy Italian gelato, cold-pressed juices, handcrafted chocolate by in-house chocolatiers and a chef’s selection of fresh breads.
With sweeping views of WEC, The White Willow is a gardeninspired restaurant and bar that blends stylish interiors with two open-air patios, o ering the perfect setting for a night out. Inspired by the avors of Asia, the menu brings together familiar favorites with artful creations, including sushi, dim sum, grilled specialties and shareable plates. Highlights include miso black cod, General Tso lobster, sesame ginger Oriental Chicken Salad and a multi-course omakase experience. Signature dishes pair beautifully with sake cocktails, Asian beers and Japanese whiskies. Whether sipping under the stars or sharing plates with friends, The
White Willow is a rooftop retreat for unforgettable evenings.
Genievieve’s takes guests on an elegant journey through re ned Italian cuisine, blending timehonored traditions with creativity. The romantic dining room and outdoor rooftop terrace o er sweeping views for an unforgettable experience. Guests begin with indulgent starters such as housemade focaccia and ricotta with olive oil. The menu’s handcrafted pastas shine, from classic spaghetti al pomodoro to lobster risotto and duck con t agnolotti. A Plateful of Options in Downtown Ocala
Set to bring a new level of energy to downtown, The Forge is shaping up to be one of Ocala’s most ambitious dining and entertainment destinations. Located just a few blocks north of the square on First Avenue, once it opens this spring, the nearly 40,000-squarefoot complex will blend multiple
restaurants, bars, outdoor dining areas, live music and event space into one expansive, walkable experience. Once complete, the space is expected to feature around 15 di erent food and beverage concepts, along with pop-up markets, community events and even retail elements.
Each concept o ers its own distinct vibe. The Blind Eye leans into a speakeasy-style atmosphere with a moody, vintage feel, pairing whiskey-forward drinks with Southern-inspired dishes. Ignite brings a modern take on Asian fusion, blending familiar avors with creative twists, while The Hammock draws inspiration from Mediterranean cuisine with a tapas-style menu designed for sharing. For something on the sweeter side, Just Desserts rounds things out with indulgent treats, from ice cream and shakes to specialty drinks.
The setting itself is just as much a draw as the food. The Forge incorporates two historic buildings, including the former Ocala Iron Works, dating back to the late 1800s, and the Turnipseed Building from the 1920s, giving the development a sense of character and history. LOCAL FLAVORS ENHANCE BEHIND-THE-SCENES ANGUS RANCH TOURS.
With grass-fed beef continuing to rise in popularity, one local producer is giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the industry.
Fort McCoy Ranch, an 8,000acre operation in northeastern Marion County, o ers monthly tours that take guests through the pastures and the on-site USDAinspected processing plant and then wrap up with a meal featuring ranch-raised beef.
Originally known as Adena Farms, Fort McCoy Ranch has an Angus-based program, with some crossbreeding to support herd performance. Known for their e ciency and quality beef, Angus cattle are well-suited to the ranch’s grass-fed, pasture-based system.
Cattle are grass-fed and nished on pasture year-round, with no added growth hormones or antibiotics.
In addition to selling grass-fed beef, the ranch began o ering its Pasture-to-Plate tours in the fall 2025. Tours are held one Saturday or Sunday each month from 10am-1pm.
“We take you from start to nish on how beef is processed here,” says partner Todd Rudnianyn. “A 30-month process—from birth to harvest to marketing—is broken down into a three-hour tour. The tours are very educational. Some parents bring their kids to learn where food comes from, and we’ve had people visit from all over the state.”
When visitors arrive, they meet the team and hear the story behind the ranch and its regenerative farming practices. In addition to raising grass-fed cattle, Fort McCoy Ranch is committed to protecting the local ecosystem, with a signi cant portion of the property preserved as forests and wetlands.

Visitors wear a frock, hard hat and hair net, just like facility workers.
To make the process as stressfree and humane as possible, the ranch built its facility and curved corrals based on Dr. Temple Grandin’s design principles. A wellknown expert on animal behavior, Dr. Grandin is a leading advocate for humane livestock handling.
The tour concludes with a ranch-raised lunch.

BRUNCH FRUIT TART BRUNCH FOR MOM

Crust:
• 4 cups granola mixture
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 4 1/2 tablespoons honey
• nonstick cooking spray
Filling:
• 2 1/4 cups vanilla Greek yogurt
• 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 package gelatin
• Toppings:
• strawberries, sliced
• blueberries
• kiwis, sliced
To make crust, preheat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, combine granola, butter and honey. Grease 11-inch tart pan with nonstick cooking spray. Line bottom of tart pan with parchment paper. Press granola mixture into tart pan. Place tart pan on baking sheet and bake 10 minutes. Cool completely. To make filling, using mixer, combine yogurt, cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract and gelatin until whipped completely. Pour yogurt mixture into tart crust. Refrigerate at least one hour. Top with strawberries, blueberries and kiwis.
