Lancaster Store Cattle Friday 4th August There was a larger number of Store Cattle forward this week with a catalogued entry of 385, which saw good quality and cattle carrying flesh continue to be in strong demand and easily sold, with 10 cattle selling in excess of £1400. The trade was topped by MS Dugdale & Sons of Tewitfield with his regular consignment of tremendous Continental bullocks topping at £1550 for British Blues, with Limousins from the same good home selling to £1490 and £1470. Native Cattle saw Aberdeen Angus Bullocks sell to £1380 for T & E Burrow of Slyne with all with all Angus Bullocks averaging £1110. Heifers sold to £1240 for a Simmental Heifer from AS & D Parker of Preston. Friesian Bullocks sold to £1140 from L Parsons & Son of Low Levens for a pen of three. This week’s Cast Cow sale saw a bumper entry of 126 forward. Meaty cows sold to a continued good trade with leaner cows harder to place, especially with a larger number of parlour cows forward. The market saw an overall average of 120p/kg. Cast cows sold to a top 191.5p/kg for a British Blue from TE, JS & SA Carruthers of Underbarrow. Best Black and White Cows sold to 174.5p/kg from BW & J Robinson of Treales which also achieved the highest price per head selling to £1200.50. Well fleshed Friesian Cattle sold around the 140p/kg mark. Aberdeen Angus OTM Steers sold to 184p/kg from EJ Ward & Son of Nether Kellet. Cast Bulls sold to £1351.33 from HR & JA Hodgson of Barbon for a Limousin Cast Bull which was closely followed by J & A Smales for a South Devon Bull selling to £1330. The weekly sale of Calves and stirks saw an increased number forward again this week, with calf numbers gradually beginning to increase again at Lancaster. British Blue bull calves sold to £475 and £455 from David and Eileen Wallbank of Abbeystead with British Blue heifers from the same home selling to £415 and Angus bulls to £420. There was plenty of beef calves selling in the late three hundreds today. There was a very small entry of black and whites with all eagerly bid for topping at £150 from David and Eileen Wallbank, with all black and whites forward selling to a market average of £83.48. It was great to have nearly thirty stirks in this week selling to a top of £500 for five month old British Blue steers from the Cornthwaite Family of Poulton le Flyde and four month old British Blue bulls from G & ME Woodhouse of Ellel selling to £485.
