Weekly report & newsletter NWA Lancaster Sale Reports Friday 2nd January An entry of 47 OTM Cattle forward made up mainly of parlour cows saw fit cows sell to a strong trade with very plains sorts slightly harder to place with an overall brisk trade throughout. Just a handful of beef cows in sold to 147.5ppk from JJ Woof & Sons of Millbeck for a Limousin with others from AR Edmondson of Hawkswell selling to 144.5ppk and 139.5ppk for Limousin cows. Better fleshed dairy cows eagerly sort after selling to 124.5ppk with other cows carrying flesh selling easily over 105ppk. A market average of 97.8ppk was achieved. The weekly sale of Store Cattle at Lancaster had a reduced entry forward but sold to an equally strong trade as previous weeks. British Blue steers sold to a top price of £1320 from Cowell & Moore of Woodplumpton with Hereford Steers from TE & BM Makinson of Holmgarth selling to £1220. A trio of British Blue heifers sold to £1160 from P Lawrenson of Walmsley Fold. Black and white steers sold to a brisk trade with buyers eager to buy steers in all conditions. Store Cattle Top Prices: STORE BULLOCKS – FR- £1080 Rowell Farm; £990 Newsham Hall Farm; £970 Ivy Farm. LIM- £1150 Thornbush Farm; £1070 Newsham Hall Farm. HE- £1220 Holmgarth. SIM- £1160 Holmgarth. BRB- £1320 Newsham Hall Farm. SRW- £900 Wyre Farm; £760 Buck Bank Farm. STORE HEIFERS – LIM- £1060 Rowell Farm; £1020 High Tenement Farm; £960 Walmsley Fold. CH- £1080 Newsham Hall Farm. BRB- £1160 Walmsley Fold.

A small entry of Calves and Stirks for the start of 2015, with only 39 forward, however trade for all classes was well above expectations. Topping the calf trade was Dave Harrison of Wray with a cracking run of calves topping at £450 for a 12 week Blue Bull, a pair of Charollais Bulls sold to £430 with all 5 of the consignment over the £400 mark. Native bred calves sold well again today topping at £285 for a 3week Hereford heifer from Steve Mason of Over Kellet. Angus sold to £200 for 5week old heifer from TM Townley, Knowsley. Black and White calves saw the best trade of the day topping at £152 at 6weeks from Wallbank farms with others from the same home at £130 and £120. Strong calves were £70-£95 with an overall average of £92 for all forward. Stirks sold to full value, topping at £535 for a blue bull at 5months from A Shepherd with a pen of 3 Angus Heifers at 6months selling to £505. Calf Top Prices: BULL CALF – BRB- £450 Birks Farm. Monday 5th January 2015 GETS OFF TO A STRONG START The weekly sale of Prime Hogg’s & Cast Sheep saw an active ringside of buyers competing for all classes.

Prime Hogg’s regularly 190p/kg-200p/kg topping at 205p/kg for best continental from D Cockett and £96 for Texel x from J Bargh & Son. Mules sold to £82 from J Simpson with horned lambs £74.50 from Fell End Farm.
