
J36 Rural Auction Centre: Fell Pony Society Show & Sale followed by Mountain & Moorland Ponies, Saturday 25th October 2025.
With an entry of 109 ponies ranging from broodmares, ponies broken to ride, drive or ready to be backed, down to newly weaned foals, there was something for everyone. The pre-sale show, judged by Glynis Cockbain, saw the Championship rosette go to Lot 31 Meadowpark Masterpiece from Gareth and Rachel Dunn. A 2 year old bay colt by Drybarrows Clearwater and out of Greenholme Blossom. A real quality Fell pony purchased out of this sale as a foal and going on to sell for 2600gns.
Reserve Champion was awarded to Lot 69 Brackenbank Winston, a black colt by Bybeck Angelo out of Brackenbank Violet from the Wilkinson family.
The sale was topped by Lot 12 Llanerchbrook Caraway from Helen Wenden; an 8 year old black mare by Waverhead Copper who had been used as a broodmare, successfully shown in-hand and now broken and riding away, selling for 2800gns.

Other prices were Lot 8 Holling Tarren consigned by B Bracewell, a 5 year old mare, lightly broken and selling for 2200gns followed by Lot 6 Waverfoot Lillibet from Hilary Lightfoot selling to 2000gns.
Amongst the 1 – 3 year old ponies, Hilary Lightfoot also sold Waverfoot Gipsy Queen, a 3 year old filly to 1900gns. Mr P Hodgson sold 2 year old Nortontowers Ollie at 1500gns followed by 3 year old Winstervale Bracken from GT Hodgson and Llanerchbrook Darcy, a grey 2 year old filly both selling for 1400gns.
The foals topped twice at 2000gns for Greenholme Tamsyn by Greenholme Diego and Greenholme Tasha by Greenholme Quirky from John Potter who also sold other filly foals at 1600gns, 1500gns and 1050gns. Greenholme Tasha will be travelling all the way to Denmark shortly.
Colt foals were topped by Brackenbank Jim Bob, a black colt by Bybeck Angelo, from the Wilkinson family and selling to 1300gns. The family being awarded the Isobel Potter Trophy, kindly awarded by the Fell Pony Heritage Trust for the highest priced colt foal.
Mountain and Moorlands
This section was topped by the Dales ponies. Griseburn Lady Mary Kate, a quality and well presented 8 year old broodmare from G & R Dunn who sold at 4000gns. This same home also sold Earnwell Mally a 2 year old part-bred Dales, lightly broken at 2500gns and Castlehill Poppy a 16 year old ridden and successful broodmare to 1500gns. JK& M Metcalf sold their quality yearling filly, Bolam Daisy at 3000gns and M&G German sold their grey yearling Section B filly to 2200gns.
The Shetlands were all keenly bid for and were topped by the very last in the ring, Shadyrocks Millie, a miniature bay (mushroom carrier) filly foal from C Brown of Bradford at 1200gns. This was followed by Hallans Oreo Latte a miniature filly foal at 1100gns and Hallans Black Magic a very well marked miniature filly foal at 1050gns from Gaynor Crook.
The next sale is 15th November for all types and breeds with a special section for Registered Shetland ponies. Entries close Friday 31st October.

A better show of fed lambs forward today which were greeted with a more enthusiastic ringside of buyers, keep these lambs coming.
Topping the sale today at £193 and 407p/kg was a consignment of Beltex cross lambs from Hannah Mason with other better bred and finished lambs from M Beresford, TR Prickett, I Richardson, KA Purtill all nicely selling at 350p/kg to 390p/kg.

Best first cross lambs sold to £169 from JM Sanderson and 325p/kg from P Whitton. Best light weights to £150 from M Beresford and 354p/kg I Richardson. An overall market average today of 313p/kg for lambs ranging from 29p/kg to 66kg.

CULL SHEEP
Pens once again full with cull sheep and all classes and types greeted with a competitive trade, very much inline with recent weeks. The strongest continental ewes sold to £192 for Texel cross from JM Sanderson and D&K Swarbrick with others £190 from JE Parkinson & Son. Medium meated continental cross ewes £160 to £180, with leaner ewes £115 to £130. Mules sold to £164 from J&K Burr with the stronger end generally £148 to £155 and mediums £128 to £135. Several feeding orders ringside for all types.
Pure hill ewes saw Cheviots sell to £172, Gritstone and Lonks £120, Herdwick £82 and Swaledale £78.

PIGS
Trade was solid today with an increased number on the week. Good sorts with plenty of meat were a good trade, top price was achieved today by Peter Woof, Stainton with a pair of quality prime gilts making £228. Plenty of prime pigs (particularly gilts) were over the £200 mark.

PRIME LAMBS
Both numbers of sheep and trade today exceeded all expectations. Also, some new faces buying and selling! An overall average of 309p/kg and an SQQ of 316p/kg was achieved, as yet again an increase in numbers of lambs going through the ring at Junction 36 speak volumes.
Texels sold to £188 from PJ&ES Rogerson for their usual quality run of fit lambs. Other Texels sold to £183 from TE JS & SA Carruthers and £178 for a pair from TMW&H Hogson. 44kg lambs from M&S Blease sold to £156 or 354p/kg, the same home had 45kgs lambs to 351p/kg. J Twigge had Texels to 353p/kg, these were for 47kg lambs. Lighter lambs also sold well, with 37kg lambs from D&DW Prickett hitting 351p/kg. More sheep are required next week as we continue to grow. Topping at £1000 was firstly a British Blue bull from Bamber Farms, Thurnham who sold others at £990 x2, £970, £960 and £930 with this home selling twelve British Blue bulls and heifers to average £905.83. Also hitting £1000 was a British Blue from CR Dickinson, Thurnham who sold three British Blue bulls to average £926.67. Charolais sold to £960, £950 and £910 for eight week olds from Gibson and Berry, Endmoor with others at £900 from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall. STORE CATTLE
DANCING THROUGH THE RING AT JUNCTION 36. A MARKET FULL OF RHYTHM AND CONFIDENCE
There was no standing still today, as suckler calves and store cattle skipped their way through the ring to a lively trade. From the first lot to the last, the Auction moved to an up-beat tempo. Confidence, competition and cattle in every corner. The packed ringside kept perfect timing and strong bidding saw all types waltz to impressive prices.
The day began with a show for the suckler calves. This was kindly judged by Messrs Wales of Thackwood. The overall Champion was awarded to a bullock, 9m of age from Messrs M&D Hatton, Reserve Champion was awarded to Messrs CD Slinger and LT Eaton for a 7m old bull calf.
Steers in the suckled calf section topped at £2100 from Messrs M&D Hatton for a British Blue. Limousins topped at £2000 at just 5m old from Messrs B Wilson & Sons. Suckler bulls also hit £2100 for a 7m old British Blue from W Heaps Ltd. Other suckler bulls hit £2000 at just 6m old from Messrs GR & A Foy. Suckler heifers sold to £1860 from M&D Hatton for a Limousin and £1820 for a pair from Messrs MW & M Hodgson.
Store cattle trade also continued to shine with Pilling Hall topping that section. A 17m old Limousin bullock selling for £2100 and a pair of heifers from the same good home making £1960. Others sold to £2080 for an Aberdeen Angus bullock from Messrs A&B Pickthall and 12m old Simmental bullocks to £2000 from RJS & DM Addison.

Hereford bulls sold to £880 from TE&MM Kidd with Charolais to £760 from JE&SM Seedall, Mellor. Younger one month old bulls sold to £590 for British Blues from JR Newsham, Conder Green.
Heifer calves sold to £700 for a Limousin from J&O Galbraith, Endmoor with Aberdeen Angus to £680 from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme. Charolais heifers sold to £640 from JM&MH France, Littledale with British Blues to £630 from Throstle Nest, Pilling. A handful of stirks followed selling to £1400 x2 for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from IT Richardson, Catforth with Herefords close behind at £1300 from WJ&EA Woodhouse, Nateby. It may be Halloween, but it felt more like bonfire night with plenty of heat in the main ring today, with prices skyrocketing up wards on the week. Once again Angus cattle topped the trade, with D&N Davies showing a tremendous run of cattle, a pen of four Angus steers achieved £2650. Other Angus steers sold to £2620 from RG&B Lewis, Carnforth. More Angus steers from D&N Davies achieved £2580 for a trio, with this home also selling a ring full of eight Herefords to £2600. British Blue steers from GR Bargh & Co, Caton achieved £2550, other British Blue steers sold to £2500 from JD&GM Bracken, Garstang. Charolais steers sold to £2350 from J&MM Cli e, Forton. Shorthorn steers sold to £2400 from J&S Winstlaney, Preston. Limousin steers sold to £2380 from RG&H Preece, Roeburndale with others £2300 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington. Plenty of other beef bred steers were around the £2300 mark at only 20 months old. Dairy bred steers from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling sold to £2100 for a pair of Fleckviehs, with Friesian steers to £1880 from EJ&P Burrow, Storth. Others achieved £1800 from WR Clarke, Pilling.


The fireworks continued with the heifer trade, J&S Winstanley sold Charolais heifers to £2520. British Blues sold to £2420 for a pair from JD&GM Bracken, Garstang. Aberdeen Angus heifers easily sold, topping at £2320 for a pair from RG&B Lewis, Carnforth other Aberdeen Angus to £2280 for a pen of five from T&E Garlick & Son, Freckleton. Simmental heifers to £2200 from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling. A trio of well farmed Limousin heifers at just 17 month old to £2150 from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield. Plenty more 18 to 20 month old heifers were round the £2000 mark.
Lancasters monthly stirk sale saw plenty of demand as farmers look to replace stock they have sold earlier in the morning. R&J Parkinson, Preesall monthly consignment of quality stirks saw their Angus steers at just eight months old achieve £1600. J&SJ Riseborough, Silverdale not far behind at £1500 for 12 month old Aberdeen Angus steers. Other 12 month old Angus steers sold to £1380 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. Dairy bred stirks at 10 months old sold to £850 for Friesians from R&J Parkinson, Preesall who continued their good days trading with Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1100 at 12 month old. Other Angus heifers at £1080 from D&J Hay, Cockerham who also had British Blue heifers at the same price. While Limousin heifers from SE&J Gorst,
Littledale sold to £1100.
