Monday 28th December 2020 The only disappointment this morning was the lack of prime lambs forward. An overall market average of 216p/kg Included many consignments of hill bred lambs. Handy lambs continue to be the best to sell with good consignments of handy continental lambs often averaging between 220p/kg and 230p/kg. The consignment from Andrew Butler, Hambleton topped the market selling to £110 or 250p/kg for a Beltex lamb, Texels from the same home selling to £105 twice. Top pence per kilo was achieved by TR Prickett, Hutton Roof, selling Texel lambs to 267p/kg or £104 and also selling others to 253p/kg or £101. Plenty of lambs sold in excess of the £100 mark; GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston selling continental lambs to £106 and £105 twice. The consignment from Bargh Contractors sold to £105 and Beltex lambs from John Bargh selling to £104. Hill lambs sold to £102, £101 and £100 for Cheviot lambs from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston. Masham lambs sold to £90.50 weighing 42kg from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock with mules selling to £90.50 weighing 43kg from M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Swaledale lambs sold to £80 from T Ayrton and Son, Over Wyresdale. PRIME LAMB TOP PRICES: Beltex - £110 Park Farm Barn, £104 Old Woodhouse. Texel - £110 Hall Croft Barn, £105 Little Eccleston Hall Cottage, Park Farm Barn, Old Woodhouse, £104 Hutton Roof Hall, Little Eccleston Hall Cottage, £103.50, £103 Park Farm Barn, £102 Little Eccleston Hall Cottage. Horned sheep sold to a top of £78 for Jacobs from ST Birkett, Carnforth, Dalesbreds to £71 from R Capstick and Son, Ingleton and Swaledales to £70 from S Bosworth, Burnley. CAST EWE TOP PRICES: Beltex - £130 Hall Croft Farm. Texel - £116 Park Farm Barn. Hampshire - £78 Hall Croft Barn. Dalesbred - £71, £62 Fell End Farm, £58 Lower Oakeneaves Farm. Swaledale - £70, £68 Lower Oakeneaves Farm.
Tuesday 29th December 2020 - J36 Prime Lambs The final sale of prime lambs of 2020 saw a very strong market average of 220p/kg with the SQQ average of 230p/kg to include a large proportion of hill lambs. handy weighted and light weight lambs continue to be in most demand with heavy weight lambs a nice trade selling around the 200p/kg mark regularly. The market topped at £113 for Beltex lambs from John Twigge, Lindale. Beltex lambs peaked at 268p/kg or £110 from AR & BJ Thompson, Selside with Texel lambs selling to 267p/kg from D & J Woof, Sedbergh and Blue Texel lambs selling to 261p/kg from N & ME Harrison, Shap. There was plenty of pens of good conformation lambs easily selling around the 250p/kg mark. Heavy weight Texel lambs sold to a top of £110 from J & J Huck, Kendal. Numerous pens of lambs selling over the £100 mark with 38% of the pens of lambs forward selling in excess of the £100 mark. Hill bred lambs peaked at £101 from AR & BJ Thompson, Selside with other Cheviot lambs selling to £99.50 from EW & JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge with GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston achieving the same. Mule lambs sold to a top of £99 from F & SA Edmondson, Ulverston with plenty of pens of mules selling in the mid-nineties. Horned lambs were topped by Rough fell lambs topped at £95 from S & W Dickinson, Tebay.
