1818 Auctioneers are delighted to offer the collection of figurines form the estate of the Late David & Sheila Thomlinson’s. David was renowned in livestock circles as a knowledgeable and passionate auctioneer of all classes of livestock. He was best known for his work with pedigree stock breaking many records in his 57-year career. The Pedigree ring at Borderway was renamed the David Thomlinson ring after his death. David starting work for H&H as an office boy in 1962 and worked his way to Managing director of the company. Not only a great auctioneer but a mentor to many young and upcoming auctioneers who have gone on to hit their own hights within the industry. Within the collection is many breeds from the studios of Border Fine Arts, and Beswick including Dairy Shorthorn Family. Lot 501 features David in the auction scene. Spring Lambs
With buyers galore all lambs were well bid for and many more could have been sold on the day. 116 forward topping at £166 for a Texel from H Birkett & Son, Heaton. Just behind that was another Texel from KA Purtill, Wigan totalling at £165. Around the early 40kgs in terms of weight was once again the most sought-after article. KA Purtill, Wigan hit 360p/kg for a single 43kg Continental lamb. A pen of eleven 39kg Texels sold to 359p/kg from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. An SQQ average of 340p/kg was achieved. Prime Hoggs
Prime hoggs ever so sharper on the week with yet again handy weight sheep most in demand. Top price was £160, and this was met multiple times, firstly by a 50kg Beltex from Maisie Beresford, Broughton in Furness, then a pen of three heavy Suffolks from Messrs Clarke, Preston. A nice run of hoggs from RJ Byron, Woodplumpton were upto 332p/kg for 44kgs, 331p/kg for a pair of Beltex at 42kgs and 330p/kg for Continentals at 42kgs. Heavier Charollais sheep sold to 328p/kg for 47kg hoggs from KA Purtill, Wigan. The heavy heavy end once again pulling the average back for the hoggs. The SQQ average ended up just shy of the £3 mark, with a few less numbers kicking about today.

Cast ewes a very similar trade on the week with absolutely load of demand! A Charollais from KA Purtill, Wigan topped the section at £212. A pen of three Suffolks hit £192 and Texels topped at £190. Mules were also very much wanted, with a pen of four from D&E Whitaker, Quernmore selling to £172. Cheviot ewes topped at £170 from AJ Lyons, Wigan. More numbers required to meet ever increasing demand.

Ewes with Lambs at Foot
Breeding sheep witnessed a very strong trade for the small show forward this morning. A two crop Mule ewe with a single Continental lamb at foot topped at £235, this was from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh. The same home then had two more with singles at £230 and then the same again at £220. Three Mules with twins also two crops hit £305 per family.

97 prime and store pigs forward today, selling to £262 for a trio of gilts from MP Tattersall, Langholm with lighter weight hogs to £180 from J&JR Stott, Stainton. Boars sold to £175 from E Hardman, Blackburn. Cull sows sold to £90 while stores reached £76 and weaners topped at £70.
Sheep with Lambs at Foot Hoggs and lambs average £302.40. Ewes and lambs averaged £187.15.
A second sale to beat many first sales!
The second sale of hoggs and lambs at Junction 36 came at a time where the trade elsewhere was starting to wane, however trade today (especially for Mules) held up as well as the first sale.
Two very strong classes were shown today and were kindly judged by Ian Dixon, Kendal. The judge backed his judgment by purchasing the champion pen today from Winter Bros, Appleby selling to £430.
Texel hoggs varied more in trade today compared to the first sale, with a top price of £310 from MW&HE Pedley, High Ploughland. Reserve champion went to a pen of Texels from G&KM Atkinson, Colby making £280, the same firm had a multitude of the same goods at the same price, as well as some Mule hoggs upto £340 and top price Suffolk at £310. Total average of Texel hoggs with lambs came to £275.
A decent number of ewes and lambs today including a dispersal sale on behalf of Tom Fitton with his Blue Texels. He topped the trade today reaching £325 for a ewe with a single tup lamb.
There was a complete mixture of breeds today with large numbers of Herdwicks, Swaledales and Cheviots making up the largest share of the sale.

Prime Lambs -‘Bouncing’
A very buoyant trade for spring lambs once again at Junction 36, with all types more sought after than last week and a lot more sought after than reports elsewhere.
Again, the lighter end of springers where the tastiest, however heavies were also met with a sharper trade and increased interest today. Texels sold to 387p/kg from C Bennett, St Michaels. Dorsets sold to 383.3p/kg for a pen of three. A further pair of Texels from C Bennett sold to 381p/kg and two Texels from JT&A Armistead, Selside hit 377.5p/kg or £151 for 40kg lambs. Dorset topped at £156 pound per head, these were from S Proctor, Selside.
Overall market average 349p/kg.
SQQ market average 356p/kg.

Plenty weight and variety around the hogg front, however anything fit and handy sized remains good to sell. 40kg Texels sold to 345p/kg for a pen of six with Beltex hoggs hitting £146. A pair of Beltex from AT Burrow & Son, Hornby sold for 333p/kg this was for 42kg hoggs. Texels topped at £157 from N Barker, Burton in Kendal for a pen of five. C Cleasby, Broughton in Furness was just behind that with a pen of three at £156. An overall average of 271p/kg was realised, and again more numbers could have been sold.

Bull calves sold to £870 on three occasions today. J&B Morley, Appleby was the first to make this for a British Blue with others from this home at £860 and £810. Next at £870 was a Beef Shorthorn cross from SM&CL Bowe, Penrith with a Charolais from CR Dickson, Thurnham making up the trio of bulls at £870 today. Aberdeen Angus reached £820 from Messrs Threlkeld, Burton in Kendal who sold others to £780. Month old rearers sold to £720 for a British Blue from DW&EA Cottam, New Hutton with 27 day old British Blue to £700 from Colby Farms, Appleby. Simmental sold to £630 from MH&AR Robinson, Kendal with two week old Limousins to £470 from B&MJ Nelson, Milnthorpe.
Heifer calves were also a pleasing trade, topping at £750 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Messrs Threlkeld, Burton in Kendal with British Blues from J&M Maudsley, Endmoor next at £740. The nice run of calves from CM&CS Chappelhow, Penrith sold Limousin heifer to £730, with Charolais selling to £680 and £660 from Gibson & Berry, Endmoor. Thirty day old sorts sold to £600 for British Blues from HJ Robinson, Kendal with other British Blue to £570 from Messrs Winder, Broughton in Furness at the same age. Heifers sold to £1100 for a ring full of Longhorn cross from E&SM Taylforth, Grange Over Sands with seven month old Limousin to £1000 from F&JM Mason, Kirkby Lonsdale. A run of Aberdeen Angus from J&M Maudsley, Endmoor sold to £880 at just four months old.

Where there is a Will, there is a way.
Will Rogerson’s fantastic run of bulls top at £2200, at just eight month old.
Store cattle remains a very strong trade for the most part, with only some types seeing the edge of them compared with the blistering trade of recent sales.
Good numbers through the ring once again at Junction 36, with yet again new vendors taking advantage of the cattle trade at Kendal.
Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £2200 at twenty month of age from MJ Waller, Killington, other Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £2190 from JE Wightman, Lupton and a pair at £2130 from GM Metcalfe, Kendal. A pair of Limousin bullocks sold to £2080 from the same home. Saler bullocks hit the £2000 mark for three from AJ&H Clark, Sedbergh. GM Metcalf, Kendal topped the Aberdeen Angus heifer trade at £2080 and a pair from MJ Waller, Killington were just behind at £2070. Limousin heifers were up to £2020 from JE Wightman, Lupton and £2000 for one out of the tremendous run of cattle from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston. All in all, another very good day at North West Auctions, ahead of our next cattle sale here on Thursday 12th June.

S Procter, Selside claimed top grossing in the OTM ring today, with their nine year old British Blue cast bull returning a tasty £3308.99. Trade maintained recent form with cows today reaching £2796.42 for a Limousin from PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby. The best of the dairy cows sold to £1997.08 from Strickland Hill, Witherslack with others at £1936.76 from S&M Cooper, Ulverston.
Top pence per kilo was the Limousin from PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby reaching 334.5p/kg, with P&TL Edmondson, Kirkby in Furness selling at 324.5p/kg again for a Limousin. Black and white OTM heifers reached 314.5p/kg from Strickland Hill, Witherslack with the better end black and whites making 250p/kg or more. Cast bulls sold to 289.5p/kg from S Proctor, Selside.

Bull calves this morning had to be seen to be believed, Lancaster regulars Jim Thornley, Kirkham presented two corkers of British Blue bulls to £1160 and £1100, with other British Blue bulls to £1080 from AD&RL Milner, Brock at just eight weeks old. British Blue bulls were certainly the order of the day with John Lawson, Bank End selling two at £1040 again at eight weeks, with this home averaging £967.50 for four British Blue bulls at 7-8 weeks of age. Away from the Blues, Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £870 from CR Baxter & Son, Morecambe and the best of the Black and Whites this week sold to £430 from WN&D Smith, Cockerham.
Heifer calves were a nice trade, selling to £750 from the Lawsons, Bank End for a British Blue with others to £730 and £710 from CR&A Baxter, Morecambe. A nice run of six week old rearing British Blue heifers from Christine Pickervance, Kirkham sold to £600 and £570.

Lancasters weekly sale of store cattle saw no let up in trade, despite deadweight quotations for upcoming week being less. Buyers were eager to keep cattle sheds full, while cattle are still readily available here at Lancaster, as vendors take advantage of the large number of cattle finishers round the main ring.
Aberdeen Angus cattle again hit top spot, with TC Whitside & Son, Pilling selling a pen of four weighty lads to £2400. Also achieving £2400 was local Lancaster supporter J Lamb, Old Glasson with a single British Blue. Not far behind would be DJ Townley, Stodday with a pair of Hereford steers to £2380, who also had a pair of Charolais steers to £2320. EJ Ward & Son, Carnforth sold a cracking pair of Limousin steers to £2250, with other Limousin steers from A&MI Robinson, Orton to £2120. Dairy bred steers sold to £1920 for a pen of four from EE Thornton, Heaton with Oxcliffe who also had two more pairs at £1900 and £1820.

Heifer stores saw a tremendous trade, with a very good show of well fleshed cattle for our buyers to bid at. A pair of Hereford at only 16 months old from DJ Townley, Stodday sold to £2300, while a trio of British Blues from KH&D Holden & Son, Pilling achieved £2280. Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £2200 from LE&A Ridding, Selside. A&MI Robinson, Orton continued their good days trading with Limousin heifers to £2020 for a pen of three. Stirks
The monthly sale of stirks saw an entry of just shy of 100, with trade being buoyant from start to finish and fresh buyers round the ring, who have heard about the quality of cattle on offer here at Lancaster. Regular stirk vendor JW Thwaites, Tebay sold Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1420 for a ring full of eight at ten month old. Other Aberdeen Angus heifers at £1280 from JE&BR Booker, Manchester, who also had Aberdeen Angus steers to £1520, while Friesians from the same home achieved £900. WJ&EA Woodhouse, Nateby saw their consignment of stirks reach £1420 for elven months old Simmental steers. The next monthly sale of stirks sale is on Friday the 27th June, with vendors urged to take advantage of the strong trade here at Lancaster.

More OTM’s required to suffice the demand at Lancaster, topping today at 384.5p/kg was a steer from EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet. An OTM heifer from GJ&G Billington, Catterall was next at 379.5p/kg, topping the cows today at 314.5p/kg was both GR&A Foy, Conder Green and GR Park & Sons, Kendal with best meated dairy cows were all top side of 270p/kg. Top grossing today was a steer again from EJ Ward & Son totalling £2037.85, with an OTM Aberdeen Angus heifer next at £2037 this time from JD EM JA Atkinson, Kendal. Cows topped at £1949.37 for a Holstein Friesian from MJ Fell, Whittington with any amount if well fleshed parlour cows achieving over £1800.
