NWA J36 Annual Show & Sale of Fell Ponies Saturday 24th October The annual show and sale of Fell Ponies on behalf of The Fell Pony Society at NWA J36 had a strong trade throughout with a packed ringside of customers with ponies travelling throughout the British Isles. The Pre-sale show was expertly judged by Christine Robinson, Lamplugh who awarded the Champion to lot 21 ‘Thornbeck Cracker’ a 3 year old black Filly from Mr & Mrs D Wilkinson from Brackenbank View, Appleby, with the reserve champion being awarded to lot 56 ‘Greenholme Jasmine’ a black filly foal. Topping the sale was the Champion black filly realising 2000gns following some eager bidding. Another Fell Pony reached 1420gns from B Metcalfe of Greencroft with ‘Bybeck Kayleigh’. A large number of foals forward this year sold to a strong trade throughout with buyers looking to purchase stylish types and well-bred Colts, all Fillies were in strong demand and more could have easily been sold. The foals sold to a top of 1220gns for lot number 43 ‘Dalewin Starburst’ a grey Filly from E Winder of Ravenstonedale Another notable Foal price was 1100gns for lot 58 ‘Greenholme Jake’ from RJ & BK Potter, with the reserve champion coming from the same home lot 56 ‘Greenholme Jasmin’ selling for 620gns. With all foals forward averaging just short of £400. Auctioneer Ian Atkinson commented on the sale “A fantastic atmosphere with the sale ring packed throughout the sale, it is brilliant to see so much interest in the native and traditional breeds. A strong trade throughout with the large number of buyers from all over the UK looking to purchase well-bred stylish ponies.” The sale of Tack and Equipment saw a wide range of items forward with well-maintained items easiest to sell. Machinery and carts sold to £150 for an Exercise Cart and £180 for a Driving Cart. A single furrow plough sold for £100.
