PRIME LAMBS & PRIME HOGGS
Strong trade, New faces
Despite a softer trade nationally, lambs at J36 continued to sell to a very respectable level for over 1000 lambs forward. With new buyers round the ring and plenty of competition for the right sorts, the well finished heavier end of lambs remained in serious demand. A little less fire than seen in recent weeks especially for the handy weights and lesser types. Two thirds of todays sale falling into this category showing in a lesser overall average. Lambs topped at £250 for a pen of 54kg Texels from Messrs W Garnett & Son. The same good farming sold a pen of 11 to £241 weighing 52kgs. Messrs DE & SM Moorhouse sold lambs to £232 and Messrs Ellwood sold Su olk to £229. Messrs D & DW Prickett sold quality to 480p/kg for a pen of four lighter types. 45kg Texels hit 460p/kg from Messrs DC Pickthall or £207. Over 50kgs from Messrs Garnett sold for 463.5p/kg. An overall average of 405p/kg was achieved which reflected the types forward and the large number of export sheep through the ring. Next weeks sale at J36 starts at the usual time of 1pm with the ballot drawn at 12noon.
