Lancaster Auction Mart Dairy Cattle Tuesday 17th July There was a great line up of milking cows and heifers at the July Lancaster sale, the show was kindly judged this month by Thomas Hull, who did a great job as he had many great animals to pick from. A really pleasing sale today with, once again, a consistent trade from start to finish, with the top call coming for animals with strength and volumes of milk, a real high demand for animals in this category. The champion animal was from the Inman Family, Witherslack with a superb cow which was first prize in the cow class, Witherslack Mincio Sweetie (VG85) calved 25 days and was yielding 43.kg daily, this great cow was secured by S Forshaw & Sons, Alston, Preston for £2,520. The Reserve Champion was from Drinkall Brothers of Wyresdale, Pennine Poppy 1354 this heifer won the heifer class and went on to be crowned Reserve Champion; this heifer was secured by S Forshaw & Sons, Alston, Preston for £2,200. Selling for £2,400 was a tremendously well bred heifer from H Wright & Son, Kendal, Berryholme Solomon Flo, a granddaughter of the great Holmland Storm Flo (Ex94-5E) LP110 29*, much interest was generated for this super heifer yielding 35kg daily, she was purchased by William Oldfield for his Gisburn based herd. A great heifer from M J & H Atkinson of Quernmore, Lancashire realised at £2,100, Wyredale Superstyle Sylvia 94th calved on the 2nd July and was yielding 30.kg daily, this heifer was secured by JB &JB Lawson of Cockerham. £2,000 was achieved for a sweet heifer from the Inman family, Witherslack Fantasmic Kate, calved 21 days and yielding 37.kg daily was secured by BF Blezard Ltd, of Preston. The Tomlisnon family consigned a great run of heifers winning the pairs class, selling to £1,920 for Bilsrow Flame Marie, a heifer which calved on the 30th June and was achieving a daily yield of 28kg, purchased by JB & JB Lawson of Cockerham. There was a really good consignment of animals and all vendors must be congratulated on the quality turnout which makes this sale very appealing for sourcing reputable cattle which will go on and do well in their new homes. More animals are needed to fulfil buyer’s demands, as choice is always the name of the game.
