Anniversary Show & Sale of Store Cattle & Calves Thursday 18th February ANNIVERSARY CHAMPION SELLS FOR £1260 AT NWA J36 North West Auctions held its fortnightly sale of Store Cattle which included a show to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the opening of Junction 36 Rural Auction Centre. The show, which was kindly judged by Mr David Anderson of Maryport, attracted a strong entry of cattle with over 20 forward for the show. The championship rosette was awarded to a British Blue x steer from MJ & JA Winn which later sold for £1260 and was purchased by Mr J Bowling, Wigan. Trade throughout the sale was strong for all classes with vendors leaving pleased with prices achieved. The sale topped at £1280 for a trio of Limousin steers from PE & M Capstick, Millom with heifers to £1180 for Limousin x from TS & SM Park, Millom. Young bulls peaked at £920 for Limousin x from DJ & MJ Hoggarth, Ulpha. Yearling cattle met strong bidding with buyers eager to secure stock ahead of turn out and more farmer buyers around the ringside looking to purchase groups of cattle. Cash prizes awarded every sale now for highest priced groups of 3 or more steers and heifers. The anniversary show and sale of Calves at J36 was kindly judged by Derek Bateman of Sedbergh who did a great job of judging what was a top quality show of beef calves. The first prize beef bull was awarded to B & MJ Nelson & Son of Halforth Farm with a well grown stylish Limousin. The beef heifer class was won by JW & TE Sharp of Flodder Hall who swept the deck with his British Blue heifers. The black and white bull calf class was won by HJ Robinson & Son of Elm Tree.
