NWA Lancaster Show & Sale of Dairy Cattle Monday 19th September Largest Entry of Dairy Cattle this year at Lancaster North West Auctions had their monthly show and sale of Dairy Cattle held on Monday 19th September which included the annual September bull sale saw the largest entry of cattle seen at Lancaster for some time. The pre-sale show was expertly judged by Mr David Booth of Feizor who had some very stylish heifers in front of him to judge, with many purchasers and potential purchasers commenting on how impressed they were at the quality of cattle forward for the sale. The show saw some very strong classes and the days champion was awarded to lot number 49 from the Inman Family of Strickland Hill with Witherslack International Kate. The days reserve champion was awarded to lot number 27 Carwood Doge Daisy 71 from B & V Swann of Huggarts Farm. There was a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish, with the sale being the busiest seen for some time and it was great to see both shippons full of customers before the sale started. Plenty of buyers in the ring looking to purchase all types of heifers from commercial types to heifers with strong pedigrees. The trade topped at £2,100 for Lot no. 9 Stardale Planet Vaakje from J Burrow & Son of Tunstead Farm, a much admired heifer that had created plenty of interest in the pre-sale show with a depth of pedigree with over nine generations of excellent. Another heifer breaking the two thousand pound barrier was the day’s champion lot number 49, Witherslack International Kate, from the Inman Family of Strickland Hill selling for £2,050, also achieving £2,000 was lot number 12 Ravenscar Shottle Hyacinth from John Huddleston of Ravenscar. Plenty of heifers sold in excess of £1,800 for heifers with a depth of pedigree and yielding in excess of 30 litres. An overall market average of £1,627.23 for all heifers in milk including the three teated and in different ones. A small entry of in calf and bulling heifer created plenty of interest with in calf heifers from J Towers and Son of Tunstall Hall selling to £1,280 due in October to the Holstein Friesian bull and in calf heifers averaged a very respectful £1,076. The annual September bull sale, once again, attracted a good crowd of people at Lancaster and it is wonderful to see fresh faces at the ringside. A buoyant bull trade throughout with a 100% clearance a remarkable achievement and the first time this has been accomplished for many years. The trade topped at £2,550 for lot number 107, Bilsrow Impactt, from DJ & S Tomlinson of Bilsborrow Hall, selling to N Casson of Cote Farm Partnership joining his Stonywood Herd of Holsteins. Other noted prices was the last bull through the ring of the day lot number 112 Stardale Cabaye selling for £2,200 with a market average of £1,628 achieved for the bulls.
