NWA J36 Rare Breed & Horses & Pony Sale Saturday 27th April Rare Breeds & Poultry The Spring Sale of Rare and Minority Breed livestock saw buyers in attendance from throughout the United Kingdom, attracted by the wide range of livestock on offer. Longhorn heifers sold to £700 for Fullwood Susie from P Wild, Oldham who sold other yearling heifers at £640 and £620. Galloway heifers sold at £530 from M Gibson, Sedbergh. The sale of sheep topped at £260 for a Zwartble shearling with twins. £240 was achieved for a Jacob ewe with twin Valais x lambs. Gimmer hogs sold to £220 for a White Ryeland. A German Red Fox ewe with twin lambs sold at £180. Herdwick gimmer hoggs sold to £100 with Herdwick ewes with lambs selling to £98. Several goats were forward and attracted a lot of interest selling to £120 for a nanny with kid, others achieving £110 and £105. The sale of poultry attracted a large crowd of eager bidders with strong prices achieved. Breeding pairs and trios were easily sold, as were groups of pullets. The sale topped at £280 for a quartet of Fawn and White Indian Runner Ducks with 3 large fowl New Hampshire Red pullets selling for £130. Large fowl Silver Laced Barnevelders achieved £80 as did 3 large fowl Welsummer pullets. Bantams sold to £70 for 2 Black Pekin hens, this price was also achieved for 3 Partridge Wyandotte pullets. Silkies sold to £60 for 2 Partridge pullets. A pair of Guinea Fowl sold at £75, a bantam broody hen with 3 runner ducklings £70 and a pair of Snowflake Quail £20. Hatching eggs sold to £40 for 1 dozen Large Fowl Welsummers, 1 dozen Gold Silkies £20, 1 dozen Copper Black Marans £20, Rhea Hatching eggs £9 each and half a dozen White Call Ducks £10. Rabbits sold to £35 for 2 Grey and White Dutch, £30 for a Black Lion Head and £12 for a Ginger Lion Head.

Horse & Ponies The inaugural general sale of horses and ponies saw vendors and buyers from throughout the UK in attendance attracted by the variety on offer. The sale topped at 2500gns for a very smart, grey, 5 year old registered Section A Dales mare from AW Morland, Tebay. A 16.1hh 9 year old grey mare from M T Tonks, Beckermet sold for 1800gns. A quality Shire x cob 2 year old filly from P Wheeler sold to 1650gns and a 3year old Shire filly from D Smith, Castle Douglas to 1400gns. There were several Shetlands forward and attracted keen interest, selling to 400gns for Klassique’s Henry a miniature coloured stallion and 200gns for Belmont Corey another miniature stallion both from JC Horn. 280gns was paid for Lathom Jonnie a 37” gelding from J Watson, 260gns for Newton Sadie Girl a 30” piebald mare from D Airey and 250gns for Heidi a 6 year old 32” skewbald mare from J Barras. A good selection of Fell ponies were also entered, topping at 780gns for Geordans Little Gem a 4 year old filly from M Cornthwaite who also sold 2 year old registered fillies to 600, 550 and 420gns. Well-presented horses, ponies and donkeys attracted keen bidding with trade more selective on the younger, unbroken lots.
