Weekly Report & Newsletter Lancaster Monthly Dairy Sale Monday 16th March A reduced entry for the March dairy sale was met by a full ringside of active buyers. The pre-sale show was judged by Penrith based breeder Tony Hunter who awarded both the reserve and champion rosette to Messers Inman of Strickland Hill. Taking the Champion rosette was Lot 23, Witherslack Sam Vall, bred from an EX90 (4yr) dam she later sold giving 30litres, realising the top price of the day of £2450. The reserve champion was awarded to the first place cow, Lot 24, a third calver, sired by Wabash-Way Evolve, giving 42litres she realised £2120. The best pair of heifers was awarded to T Cowell with Lots 20 & 22, these two later sold for £2250 and £1720 respectively. Trade was a fraction selective with the best pedigrees and heifers yielding well achieving a premium. Three cows forward averaged £1475 and all pedigree heifers averaged £1690. With twelve active buyers’ ringside, more cattle could have been sold to the vendors advantage. The April sale is Monday 20th, here at Lancaster.

Lancaster Machinery Sale Saturday 14th March Lancaster Machinery and Implement sale had a sale day entry of over 350 lots and once again attracted a large crowd considering many local farmers lambing and also three other machinery sales in the local area. Local farm machinery met strong demand with more large machinery forward than seen at previous Lancaster sales. Majority of items met a good trade with Silo trailers selling to £2,000 and Stoll rake selling to £1520. Livestock handling equipment always meets a strong demand at these sales, with lamb adopters being eagerly sought after. A quantity of Garden tools and hand tools always meets a strong crowd of buyers and eagerly bid for. The next Machinery and Implement sale including a section for grassland machinery and also Household furniture will be held on Saturday 16th May 2015 in conjunction with 1818 Auctioneers.
