NWA Lancaster Monthly Dairy Sale - Monday 16th January North West Auctions Lancaster had a cracking entry of 54 Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle for their January Show and Sale on Monday 16th January. The show and sale was kindly sponsored by Wynnstay and Northern Nutrition, whom we would like to thank for their continued support, which makes this event so successful. The judging this morning was in the capable hands of Mr Austin Knowles, Malvern we greatly appreciate him giving us his time and expertise. He awarded the Championship Rosette to lot 22, the first prize halter led Heifer, Ingleview Jareb Anna, consigned by R & E Butterfield, Bentham. The heifer was noted as having 9 generations of VG/EX behind her, with the five nearest dams being classified as excellent. Anna was 15 days claved and giving 32kg daily and later in the sale ring was knocked down for £2020. The Reserve Champion Heifer went to lot 43, Sandcrest Queen, consigned by J & M Sanderson, Wesham noted as 29 days calved and currently producing 30kg daily, she went on to realise £1900. The top price of the sale went to Strickland Hill Farming, Witherslack, for their Heifer, Witherslack Moviestar Barbara. She calved 21 days ago and is giving 33kg and realised £2150. J T & B Fox, Quernmore, had the 1st prize Cow, with Blackwood Clinker 29, to be 12 days calved and is giving 32kg daily, then sold away to £1450. The best pair of heifers went to lots 10 and 11, which were consigned by J Burrow & son, Barton. Lot 10, Stardale Goodwhone Vaakje, 20 days calved and is giving 30kg daily, she has 6 generations of VG/EX behind her, went on to sell for £2150. Lot 11, Stardale Varney Meg, who calved on the 17th December, and is also giving 30kg daily. The next 4 generation dams all EX, Meg sold for £1820. There was a very useful selection of bulls on offer today. Mr Knowles placed as his Champion Male to lot 63, Kirkwood Ronnie, consigned by H & SD Cornthwaite, Kirkwood Lodge Farm, Kirkland. He has 8 generations of VG/EX of pedigree behind him.
