J36 Rural Auction Centre: Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep & Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Tuesday 15th April 2025.

Sheep with Lambs at Foot

Ewes with lambs average £334.82

Shearlings with lambs average £399.32

Hoggs with lambs average £314

It’s not just the auctioneers that are good thrivers at Junction 36, the numbers and trade for sheep and lambs are also expanding in a very positive manner.

Today witnessed the spring show of shearlings and ewes with lambs, with 228 families to pick from there was a tremendous run of quality outfits.

The judging was very kindly conducted by Mr John Capstick, Killington and concluded on the result of both champion and reserve going to Geoff Atkinson.

Trade was as strong as the previous week, with top price today going to G&KM Atkinson, Colby with the champion pen of Texel gimmer shearlings with twin Texel lambs making £470.

Top price single went to PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby with a pen of Texel ewes with Beltex lambs making £420.

Trade for strong continental and Suffolk families with these being very sort after, especially for outfits with strong lambs on them. Demand was a touch easier for young twin lambs but these were still coming to a decent trade.

The first entry of Mule hoggs with lambs was seen today from RC Wharton & Son, Appleby with a pen of five with Suffolk lambs making £315.

Mules were in demand today with shearlings topping at £420 and a multitude of pens around the £400 mark. Mule ewes reached £395 with a large number of pens over the £350 mark, along with plenty more above £320.

Numbers are rising and with the price of spring lambs and cast ewes in a positive position, sheep and lambs are turning out to be a sound worthwhile investment and especially with grass beginning to boom, the demand should continue to rise. A large entry is already booked in for next week and the number is rising.

All entries are welcome, contact the office or auctioneers for more information.
