Lancaster Dairy Sale Monday 15th May The May monthly show and sale of Dairy which included the spring show and sale of breeding bulls saw a catalogued entry of 32 cattle plus sale day entries. The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr Chris Ladds of Kendal and the champion rosette was awarded to a second calved cow Sandcrest Duchess 196 from J & M Sanderson of Pasture Barn selling to £1,880. The reserve champion was awarded to Witherslack Mccutchen Julie a heifer giving over the 30litre mark from The Inman Family of Strickland selling to £2,000, this heifer being part of the first prized pair of heifers with the other being Witherslack Topsy Mab selling to £1,720. A consignment of heifers from the Drinkalls Bros of Catshaw Farm, Pennine herd sold to a top of £1,900 for the 2nd prized heifer, Pennine Poppy 1268, yielding 38litres with Pennine Dorothy 484, yielding 38kg selling to £1,820. Also reaching the £1,800 mark was Bilsborrow Sammy Janna, a second calved cow yielding 36 litres from DJ & S Tomlinson of Bilsborrow Hall. In general a successful in-milk sale with purchasers looking to purchase strong heifers with plenty of milk about them. The May bull sale had an entry of four in which more could have easily been sold and to the advantage of the vendor, with many buyers leaving empty handed. A buoyant trade was enjoyed selling to a top of £2,250 for the second prized bull Liscabank Brad a dark bull from AB & J Parkinson of Liscabank. The first prize was awarded to George Sanderson and Family of the Sandley Herd with Sandley Popeye ET with a PLI +£265 with a pedigree of 9 generations of VG/EX selling to £2,000. Also achieving £2,000 was Roebridge Alan ET with a PLI +£317 from JP & C Robson of Garstang. The next dairy sale at Lancaster will be held on Monday 19th June with entries for the catalogue closing Friday 9th June.
