North West Auctions Weekly Report and Newsletter – 17th June 2015

NWA Lancaster Monthly Dairy Sale Monday 15th June The June dairy sale saw an entry of 29 heifers and cows forward. The pre-sale show was judge by Alex Walton of Fox Lane Ends who placed lot 25, Pennine Poppy 1169, from Drinkall Bros as Champion with Lot 5, Alandrew Smokin Jayne, from G & AE Smith, in Reserve. The champion, 13days calved and giving 33.4litres later realised £1980. The reserve champion, calved 11days and giving 30litres, achieved the top price of the day of £2150. Four heifers broke the £2000 barrier, including both of David Knowles of Cragg Farm’s heifers achieving £2020. Cows sold well, with a second calver from WJ & I France, Chipping realising £1500. A ringside of 16 buyers saw only 11 being able to secure purchases. With no signs of improvements in milk prices of the coming months, buyers are still hesitant when purchasing replacements, however the best heifers remain a strong trade, plainer sorts or heifers lacking milk are harder to place. An overall average of £1480 for all heifers including pedigree and non-pedigrees.

SOUTH SHEEP 2015 North West Auc ons travelled to the NSA South West Sheep event at EW Quick & Sons of North Tawton, Devon on Tuesday 16th June 2015. A busy day was had and it was good to see many old and new faces at the event. Despite the current prime sheep trade, there was plenty of op mism about the sheep industry with many farmers in the area considering travelling north to purchase replacement breeding stock. Exis ng customers were feeding back good reports of the stock that they had purchased last autumn from Lancaster and J36 Rural Auc on Centre.
