NWA J36 North West Texel Breeders Club Sale & Social Day Sunday 14th August North West Auction’s Annual Show and Sale of 143 Texel breeding rams and females on behalf of the North West Texel Breeders Club took place on Sunday 14 August 2016. The new sale format was deemed a success by all involved with vendors and purchasers leaving very satisfied. With stock judging, hog roast, charity auction and a Ewe Lamb Championship a good day was had by all. The charity auction raised £1845 in aid of North West Air Ambulance and we would like to thank all involved for their kind generosity. The pre-sale show was expertly judged by Mr Stephen Richardson of Stonebridge Texels. A strong line up of sheep was presented in every class with many commenting on the quality forward at the sale. The Championship was awarded to the Gimmer Shearling, Lot 81 sired by Anglezarke Uno from P Woof of the Stainton Flock. The Reserve Championship also being awarded to the Stainton Flock to Lot 39 Stainton Yer Top Man sired by Eden Valley Warrior King.

A buoyant trade was enjoyed throughout the sale with a great atmosphere and a busy ringside of buyers. The day’s trade topped at 1800gns for Lot 88 a Gimmer Shearling from James Robinson of Kaker Mill flock selling a Sportsman Tremendous daughter. This modern stylish shearling had been admired all day and was eagerly bid for, with gimmer shearlings from the same pen selling to 1000gns. The ram trade saw commercial and pedigree buyers looking to purchase; ram lambs selling to a top of 1000gns for Stainton Your Self from Peter Woof. Shearling rams topped at 850gns for the first shearling in the ring from TA & R Laird with Cambwell Weight Lifter. A highlight of the day was the flock dispersal of the New Valley Texel flock from Jonathan Frankland of Long Bank Farm. His sheep were well presented and were a credit to the hard work and time Jonathan has put into his sheep. His trade topped with a Moor Top 3 shear ewe that had bred very well for the flock at 1300gns. Other noted prices from the flock dispersal were a 2 shear ewe sired by Top Hill Soloman selling to 1200gns and gimmer shearlings topping at 1000gns sired by New Valley Vendetta. Other gimmer shearlings from the flock easily selling in excess of 650gns and a spirited trade throughout the flock dispersal.

Lancaster Sale Reports Lancaster Lads - Thursday 11th August Lancaster Lads annual show and sale of Terminal sire breeding rams had a good entry of breeding rams forward, once again for this sale saw some strong classes of rams forward in front of the evening’s judges. The reserve champion and Suffolk champion for the fifth year in a row came from SG Mellor of Windicott Farm with a powerful shearling, a great achievement and our congratulations goes to Graham and family. The championship was awarded to ME Wannop and Son of Heaton Hall with a very modern smart Beltex x Texel ram. A rather selective trade with vendors looking to buy powerful rams and slightly cautious being one of the first sales of the season. Continental and white faced tups certainly the easiest to sell with purchasers looking for plenty of shape and style. A packed ring of people saw the Wannop Family top the trade with the Champion selling to £720 with tups from the same good home selling to £700. Beltex x Charollais rams sold to £700 from JA & R Geldard and Sons of Low Faulshaw. Suffolk tups saw a selective trade with good powerful tups keenly bid for and others difficult to sell as seen with the prime lambs this year. A run of powerful tups from JH Towers & Son of Tunstall Hall topped the Suffolk section selling to £650.

Friday 12th August An entry of just shy of 50 Calves and Stirks forward this week sold to a continued strong trade with a real buzz around the ring. A consignment of suckler calves from R & E Beck of Abbey Manor saw Limousin heifers sell to £590 and Limousin bull calves sell to £560 and £555 with both heifers and bulls selling in excess of £500. Dairy bred British Blue bull calves sold to £390 from DJ Clarke of Barnacre. A consignment of Angus calves from David and Eileen Wallbank of Over Wyresdale sold to £380. Black and whites a brisk trade and keenly bid for, topping at £118 from Drinkall Bros of Over Wyresdale. Just a few stirks forward today saw Black and Whites top at £275 from Charlie Butler of Hambleton. Fantastic Show of Store cattle forward today. Huge credit goes to all vendors!

More numbers of Cast Cows this week but numbers still down, more needed for a full ringside of buyers. Cast Cows topped at 174.50ppk from Lane House with Mont Cross. Dairy cows topped 144.50ppk from Cockrigg Farm. Luminous at 139.50ppk from 9 Parkhouse Farm.

Lancaster Sale Reports Monthly Dairy Sale Monday 15th August The monthly sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle at Lancaster saw a catalogued entry of 31. Reports before the sale from up and down the country from other dairy sales had seen an improvement in the trade and this was no different at Lancaster with the trade being in excess of £300 to £400 dearer then the previous sale, selling to a market average of £1,750 for all forward. The pre sale show was expertly judged by Kevin Lupton of Longridge, who had a couple of strong classes of heifers forward to judge. The champion rosette was awarded to DJ & S Tomlinson of Bilsborrow Hall with Bilsrow Cruise Roxy a very smart stylish heifer with the reserve champion rosette awarded to Stardale Cruise Glitz giving 30kg. The busiest ring side of buyers seen for some time at Lancaster with buyers in the market looking to purchase both commercial and pedigree heifers. The sale topped at £2,100 from from J Burrow & Son of Tunsteads Farm with Stardale Massey Stella giving 28 litres. A couple more heifers achieved £2,000, firstly the champion Bilsrow Cruise Roxy from DJ & S Tomlinson of Bilsborrow Hall and also from B & V Swann of Huggarts Farm selling Carwood Doge Amethyst 28. Plenty of heifers supported with a nice pedigree giving plenty of milk sold easily towards £2,000 with all vendors leaving well pleased, the only downside being, more could of easily been sold to the advantage of buyers. Monday 15th August The weekly sale of Prime Lambs at Lancaster saw all lambs forward sell to a market average of 183ppk with 39 to 45kg lambs best to sell averaging 185ppk. Export and best quality lambs continue to sell in excess of 200ppk topping at 208ppk for Texel lambs from G & D Ball & Son of Great Eccleston. It was good to see more consignments of mule lambs forward in the market with all vendors leaving pleased with their trade with a pen of 32 mule lambs from BD Gill of Yarlsber selling to £82.50. J36 Sale Reports Thursday 11th August There was 1,957 Store Lambs forward this morning, with a very busy ringside of buyers looking to purchase short and long keep lambs. The overall average was £56.80, which was a nice average for the type of lambs forward. Today’s top price was £77 for a pen of Belt x Tex lambs from P J Onions. Better Continental and Suffolk lambs sold regularly between £62 & £65. Mule lambs were selling in the mid £50s, topping at £61.50 from E Parker. A few horned lambs were in this morning, topping at £48.50 for a pen of Rough Fells. There was a smaller show of young Calves in today with a total of 29 forward. Good beef calves were very scarce, with most calves in all being black and whites. Top price was £335 for a Lim bull calf from D R & C Galbraith, Sunny Bank. Commercial Suffolk and Texel lambs regularly selling very well today and keenly bid for. A few more consignments of Mules forward in the market today, selling towards the late seventies. A bigger show of Cast Sheep forward today with 530 sheep passing through the ring, with a large percentage being freshly weaned horned ewes. Well Fleshed ewes continue to sell well topping at £98 for Texels from TE & A Galbraith of Crooklands. A good run of Cheviot X Ewes from Messrs Pease of Underley Estates were good to sell topping at £85 then £83 with several pens at £77. Horned Ewes topped at £65 for Rough Fells and £58 for Swales. NWA Property offered the well renowned hill farm known as Low Borrowbridge, Tebay for sale by public auction on Wednesday, 10th August, achieving the following results.
