NWA J36 NEMSA Sale Saturday 10th September North West Auctions held its annual show of North England Mule Gimmer Lamb show on Friday 9th September 2016. This year’s judges Mr Richard Wilson of Kendal and Mr Richard Little of Penrith and referee Mr Richard Batty of Kendal had eighteen pens of ten and ten pens of twenty to cast their expert eye over. A fantastic show of sheep with many commenting that the quality improves each year and is a true credit to all vendors for their time and effort. The first prized pen of ten was awarded to JA & CA Gibson, Longwell, Selside, winning the Goad Memorial Trophy. Frist Prize in the pens of twenty was awarded to A & H Watson of Middleton hall winning the Jim Gibson Memorial Trophy. A new venture for 2016 was the “Stars in Your Eyes” individual show and sale of mule gimmer lambs which was kindly sponsored by Macbeth, Scott and Co insurance brokers. A fantastic entry of 11 lambs were put in front of Judge Philip Elliot of Mungrisedale. After much deliberation the first stars in your eyes champion rosette was awarded to JA & CA Gibson, Longwell, Selside and the second prize rosette awarded to JF Cook of Moss Howe. The champion lamb went onto sell for £255 with the second prize lamb selling to £245 both going home with the judge. A fantastic evening was had by all and it was brilliant to have such a busy auction market with a real buzz with many new faces ringside, which is always brilliant too see. The much anticipated great annual sale of North of England Mule Gimmer lambs on Saturday 10th September 2016 had a larger entry than in previous years with 7595 lambs forward. There was a busy ring side from start to finish and it was fantastic to see so many returning faces around the ring, returning to buy the quality stock on offer at J36 plus fresh faces looking to purchase for the first time, with Mule Gimmer Lambs travelling throughout England and Wales to their new homes. The packed ring saw Mule Gimmer Lambs sell to an average of £94.58 nearly five pounds up on the previous year. The trade held very firm from the start through to the end with vendors leaving extremely chuffed with their trade. The sale topped at £205 for the champion pen from JA & CA Gibson with plenty of top pens of lambs selling around the £150 with many of buyers looking to buy strong tupping lambs around the £100 mark and running lambs looking dearest on the day, more lambs could have been sold.
