Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs, Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep & Sheep with Lambs at Foot. Monday 8th June 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
Lancaster weekly sale of prime lambs saw numbers short of buyers requirement with just short of 400 through the ring. Sale to a cracking average of £205.50 per head or 478ppk sqq and 475ppk overall for a more commercial show of lambs.
The better bred well meated lambs very similar on the week topping at £250 or 560ppk from regular Lancaster supporter Dave and Karen Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e for Texel lambs. Other texel lambs from Kevin Purtill, Wigan topping at 575ppk. Handy weight texels to £214 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. Plenty of texel lambs 41-45kg round the 550ppk mark or £230 mark. Kevin Purtill, Wigan continued his good days trading with Su olks to £240 with other Su olks to £212 from G Sagar & Son, Caton.
More lambs required next week to keep the new and regular buyers satisfied.

Just a handful of hoggs today, with meaty hoggs still in plenty of demand, all averaging 389p/kg. Topping today at £225 from J Smith, Lancaster for heavy weight Cheviots, with other Cheviots at handy weights 420p/kg from D Wightman, Burton in Kendal.

CULL SHEEP
Cast sheep saw numbers very similar on the week with trade very much on par with previous weeks.
WA & LM Jenkinson, Stalmine taking the top spot this week with their Texel ewes to £228 with other from the same good home to £215 who also has Dutch Spotted to £165.
Well fleshed Mule ewes to £174 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e and £168 from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham, who also had pygmy goats at £78. Lesser Mules around the early £150 mark.
Charollais ewes to £225 from GS Lander, Cheshire with others to £192 from the same home.
Cheviot ewes to £192 from KA Purtill with Su olk ewes from the same home at the same price.
Just a handful of Tups today saw Texels to £225 from P & AJ Whitaker, Quernmore with other Texels to £220 from D Wightman, Burton in Kendal and Cheviots tups to £198 for J Smith, Lancaster.
No Ewes & Lambs in this week, with a successful season seen at Lancaster this year with numbers 85% up on the year with Ewes & Lambs topping at £485 and Hoggs & Lambs topping at £445.

PIGS
A very large entry of finished pigs today from all parts of Great Britian. Trade was similar to previous weeks for quality. Topping the trade for pence per kilo and overall came from Messrs Woodhouse, Garstang making £185 for 86kg gilts. Messrs Stott came close with prime hoggs at £175. Plenty of buyers around for sheep and lambs today, particularly for Swaledale ewes with Mule lambs.
Trade today surpassed expectations with a strong sale average for this late in the season.
Single trade was incredibly strong with trade for these being topped by a pen of Texel cross ewes making £245 from Messrs Metcalfe, Ravenstonedale.
Swaledale ewes dominated the sale in terms of numbers with a quality run from Messrs Bennison, Lazonby averaging £90 per life with a top price of £275. The majority of these lambs were Mule gimmers.
There is a strong chance of there being some more to sell next week!!

Prime lambs still in serious demand for all types. Numbers gradually increasing week on week. Topping today was Messrs RJ Stott with Texels selling to £261. Topping the ppk section was again a Texel this time from Messrs D & DW Prickett making 552.6ppk.
Beltex lambs hit 497.5ppk from Messrs AE Atkinson & Son. 545 lambs forward averaged 450ppk overall.
Hoggs also still in massive demand topping at £259 from Messrs PJ & MR Stuart for a pair of Texel. Dutch Spotted hoggs hit £258 from Messrs Stamper and Mules sold to £247 again from Messrs Stuart. Hoggs averaged 379ppk for a much smaller show forward.
Same time, same place next week starting with lambs at 1pm.

A solid trade for stirks once again this week with plenty of confidence about for young cattle.
Dairy bred beef cattle, mainly of the Angus, Blue and Limousin variety were certainly wanted today, along with well covered black and whites around the ten month old mark. Topping the sale overall was a quality British Blue bull stirk from Messrs Whitton making £1380. Coming close in the heifer section was an Angus from AT Burrow & Son making £1350. The heifer section was well competed for with plenty making over the £1300 mark. Many of these were suitable to make breeding cattle if so desired. Steer trade was topped by a classy Charollais, making £1270, the steer class had a large entry of Holstein / Friesians present topping out a £1100 from Craig Slater. These cattle averaged £951.43 overall.

S Stainton, Howgill with trade for yearling bullocks reaching £1800 for a Blonde x from SJ & NS Wood, Windermere.
Heifers sold to £1890 for a British Blue from C & B Cummings & Son, Preesall with JE D JER Wightman close behind at £1880. 12 month old Limousins reached £1860 for a belter from FW Park, Windermere and dairy bred Limousin yearlings sold to £1680 from TW Nelson & Son, Cockrigg.
A handful of bulls sold to £1820 for a 12 month old Simmental from RJS & DM Addison, Kings Meaburn with 11 month old Limousins to £1700 from J Bosworth, Burnley.

BEEF BREEDING CATTLE
The‘June Fair’of Breeding Cattle saw a solid trade for all sold, a few breeding bulls sold to £5200 for a 7-year-old Pedigree Limousin from noted cattle breeders MA & JA Winn, Burneside with other bulls to £4000 for a British Blue x Limousin from ID & H Rawlinson, Ulverston.
The sale saw annual consignments of heifers and cows with calves forward, selling to £4200 for a British Blue 2nd Calver with her Limousin heifer calf from ST Birkett & Son,
Carnforth. EJ Hodgson, Lambrigg sold their annual run with their 1st prize heifer and calf selling to £4100 with others to £4000. J Woodburn & Partners sold the best of theirs to £3900 with others from this home at £3500.

Pens full this week for the popular mid monthly sale of stirks and weanlings. Rearing calves sold to £920 and £910 for British Blue from AW & AM Park & Son with Aberdeen Angus to £870. Younger bull calves sold to £630 for month old Aberdeen Angus, £610 for British Blue, Hereford to £540. Heifer calves to £650 for 6-week-old British Blue and Aberdeen Angus to £590 and Hereford to £530.
The weaned calves and stirks attracted huge buyer interest with British Blue heifers (6-7 month) selling to £1160, £1120 from AT Burrow & Son. Bulls to £1010, £1000 for Aberdeen Angus and British Blue from FW Rhodes & Son. Hereford heifers from JR Newsham sold to £960 and dairy bulls to £740, others £660-£700.
