Hogg & Lamb Show & Sale at J36 Tuesday 10th May The great Annual Show & Sale of Hoggs with lambs at foot at J36 attracted just shy of 600 families of hoggs and lambs plus ewes and lambs forward which was greeted by a packed ringside of buyers from throughout the North West. The pre-sale show was expertly judged by Chris Hewitt of Tatham. The Continental/Suffolk show of hoggs with single class had ten pens forward with the first prized rosette being awarded to JA Chapman of North Lodge. The Mule class had a very impressive show of Mules in front of judge saw Winter Bros of Clickham Farm awarded the first prize and then went onto take the Championship. Plenty of bidders around the ring saw pens well bid for with purchasers looking to purchase strong Hoggs suckling their lambs well. Top quality Mule Hoggs were good to sell, selling to a top of £325 for the second prized pen from Messrs Sowerby of Terrys Farm, who also sold Mule Gimmer Hoggs to £320. The champion pen from Winter Bros of Clickham Farm sold to £320, with others from the same home selling to £300 and £280. Plenty of pens of commercial mule hoggs selling between £150 and £160, with majority of vendors well pleased. Continental hoggs saw the first prize pen sell to £185 from JA Chapman of North Lodge, with better types regularly in excess of £160. A small number of geld hoggs forward saw Texels from RA Batty of Redhills sell to £102 and Mules from J & T Hunter of Moser Hill sell to £96. The major flock reduction of Robert Garth and Kelly Armitage’s Beltex and Beltex x flock attracted a large amount of attention. The flock, renowned for its success over recent years in the show circuit for producing top quality prime lambs and winning numerous prizes. Beltex x shearling and young ewes with top quality single Beltex lambs sold to £290 and £285 The weekly sale of ewes with lambs were good to sell with plenty of faces around the ring, as the weather warms up and the grass begins to grow.
