Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep. Monday 6th July 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
Saw lamb numbers just above 500, with a pleasing average of 391ppk SQQ and overall 390ppk
Topping the trade today were regular consignor D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e with a Beltex lamb, full of meat, at 45 kg to £248 or 551ppk. With Kevin Purtill, Wigan not far behind at £240 or 545ppk for Texels. R Collinge, Newton had his consignment of wellbred and well-fleshed Texel lambs to £230 or 511ppk. Heavy lambs in high demand with GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth to £236 for Texels. 60+ lambs today over £210 mark. Commercial lambs would be slightly easier trade on the week but well ahead of early summer predictions. A good 43-44kg Texel lamb out of Mule would be 385-390ppk. Lighter lambs average just over 400ppk, topping at £195 or 500ppk for Dutch Spotted. Twice the number of lambs can easily handled on a Monday morning with buyers for all types always present.

Lambs still adding up nicely.
Prime sheep still holding their own with plenty of demand, especially for the best-fed, fittest end. Vendors were well rewarded for well-finished types; however, all sorts are enjoying a good trade on the year.
Messrs C Harper hit 456.5ppk for Texels. Texels topped at £216 for a trio from Messrs Young. Others from Messrs R Gibson & Son sold to £212 and £211 from Messrs JN & DJ Bowes. Beltex lambs from Messrs W S Burrow Ltd hit 430.4ppk, with the same home selling Texels to 429ppk.
An overall average of 385ppk for a mixed show forward on the week. A healthy ringside again, with demand outweighing supply. Contact Joel McGarva ahead of next week. Usual time of 1pm, ballot drawn at 12 midday.

As expected, a smaller show of calves forward today with the weather taking priority. Heifer calves lead the way today, selling to £890 for a very smart Inra95 from AK & BM Robinson, Arkholme with this home selling the same types goods to £870 and £850. British Blues to £810 from first time vendor AR & S Bell, Ulverston who sold Aberdeen Angus heifers to £800. Hereford heifers reached £740 and £700 from J-CH-JG Bland, Arnside. Month olds to £680 for Limousin from AE Lu man, Sedbergh with British Blues to £605 and £600 from TK Robinson, Old Hutton- these just 3-week-old. Trade for Stirks remained strong today with a quality show and an abundance of buyers. Steer Stirks were definitely the largest portion of the sale with a very healthy average of £1210 and a top price of £1460 shared between Messrs Smith for a pen of three strong Angus and a smart Blue from Messrs Sykes.
J36 Stirk sale is certainly proving to be the destination for dairy bred beef types, trade also very positive for Black & White and other dairy breeds, with an overall average for this category of £1050.

Like a well-tuned engine, the store cattle trade runs best when confidence is firing on all cylinders. With more of that about today buyers found another gear. Well grown cattle and strength dearer on the fortnight and momentum beginning to grow for most types. Fantastic run of Charolais bred cattle from Messrs EW&RM Towers hit £2220 for heifers, Angus topped at £2180 from Messrs G Cuthbertson. Charolais bullocks also good to sell reaching £2150 from JD EM JA Atkinson. Limousins sold to £2120 from Messrs GM Metcalf. Bulls also attracting plenty demand with a pair of Stabilisers from Messrs M Allen going for £1960. Good numbers on show once again for the time of year however buyers still hungry for more. A small but quality show of calves at Lancaster today. Rearing calves a very nice trade, selling to £860 for a British Blue bull from J & G Thornley, Kirkham with JP & C Robson, Brock close behind at £840. One month old Hereford bulls sold to £700 from WN & D Smith, Cockerham. Heifer calves equally as hot, selling to £790 for British Blues from Wallbank Farms, with other British Blues to £770 from JP&C Robson, Brock. Aberdeen Angus heifers a very nice trade selling to £680 from J & G Thornley, Kirkham, £640 from Wallbank Farms and £560 for WN & D Smith, Cockerham. Stirks a flyer, with trade certainly up a gear, selling to £1390 for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from J&M Coar & Son, Waddington who sold Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1230. RE & P Miller, Garstang sold a very nice run of heifers to £1180 and £1110 with AT Burrow & Son selling theirs to £1080 at eight month old. More required at Lancaster every week!

Lancaster auctions weekly store cattle sale saw a few less than previous weeks with trade slightly sharper on the week as talk of deadweight price increase. Steers today averaged £1972 with heifers averaging £1945. Aberdeen Angus steers to £2380 from EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine with others from T Robson & Son, Singleton to £2300. K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel with their usually run of quality cattle had British Blues to £2200 and £2250. Limousin steers to £2200 from RG & LR Holmes, Kendal. Charolais steers to £2200 from J & H Bland & Son, Levens. Hereford steers at the same price this time from J & S Winstanley, Preston. Store heifers saw plenty of interest from the buyers with British Blues from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel to £2250 with other British Blues from GR & A Foy, Conder Green to £2220. Lancasters auction weekly otm sale saw numbers well short of buyer’s requirements as vendors take advantage of the good weather with an overall of 270ppk being achieved all in.
Topping the trade in the bottom ring today was Miss EK Clegg, Pilling with an Aberdeen Angus steer at £2568.78 or 319.5ppk. Other cast steers also at 319.5ppk this time for British Blues from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton who had other British Blues at £2491.13 or 314.5ppk, Friesian cast steers from this same good home at £2232.05 or 289.5ppk. OTM heifers saw Friesian to £2201 or 299.5ppk from J & G Thornley, Preston. Aberdeen Angus otm heifers from O Butler, Preston to £1959.34 or 294.5ppk. Plainer sort otm heifers round the 260-280ppk.
