NORTHWEST TEXEL BREEDERS CLUB SHOW & SALE IN-LAMB TEXELS A TASTY TRADE The North West Texel Breeders Club annual show and sale of Pedigree Texel females was held at North West Auctions J36 on Saturday 3rd January 2026, where the ringside atmosphere was turbo charged. A fantastic sale was had from start to finish resulting in a 100% clearance. A superb show of animals featured in the pre-sale show, with credit going to the vendors for the quality on o er. A special mention goes to our pre-sale judge Tom Pyman of the Thacka Flock, who we thank for his time and expertise. The sale kicked o with aged ewes, topping the trade was a 1 crop Strathbogie ewe from the Logram flock selling to the Anglezarke flock of Chorley for 2000gns in lamb to Summersyke I Predict A Riot. Trade didn’t stall with the shearling gimmers, with the pre-sale show Champion from Messrs C Boden’s Mellor Vale flock selling to Miss Shuttleworth of Barbon for 2500gns. Close behind was a flashy shearling gimmer from R & E Campbell’s Cowal flock selling to the Tuson flock of Bamber Bridge for 2000gns. Next there were sought after animals from both Sportsmans and Partridge Nest selling to 1800gns each. Ewe lambs sold to 650gns from the Stainton flock. Trade topped at 1600gns for the days champion, the in lamb gimmer shearling from C Harding, Chester which makes her way home with local breeder A Metcalfe, Kendal. Next at 1400gns was again a gimmer shearling, this time from D Bezuidenhojt, Saltburn with this home selling others at 1000gns. Reaching 1100gns was a gimmer shearling from the Grayrigg Foot pen courtesy of DA Dixon, who sold others to 900gns. Gimmer hoggs met a great deal of interest selling to 700gns from DA Dixon. RJ Heigh sold to 650gns with both M Veitch & RA Lancaster selling their pick at 600gns. In lamb ewes sold to 600gns from M Veitch, Penrith with M Rowlandson, Flookburgh achieving 550gns. MULTI BREED Beltex females met a tasty trade with these carcass queens reaching 1000gns for in lamb shearlings from A Morton, Stirling. M Davis, Eldroth sold theirs to 650gns with RJ & J Towers, Ingleton achieving 600gns. TC Whiteford, Tercrosset presented their usual top quality with these reaching 550gns x2. Blue Texels sold to 750gns from M Davis, Eldroth with this good home presenting Badger Face Texels to 650gns. RJ & J Towers, Ingleton sold the sole Charollais entry, this sold to a very respectable 680gns. J36 Rural Auction Centre: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 6th January 2025. PRIME HOGGS Festive momentum carries into January at Junction 36. Six days into the New Year and the festive cheer is still very much alive at Junction 36 Auction Mart. Prime sheep meeting another strong and competitive trade. Buyers’ confidence remained high throughout, with well finished lambs keenly sought after and prices holding firm as January gets underway. Today’s overall market average was 330p/kg and although numbers are increasing here, more sheep are required to meet our ever-growing demand. Top price per kilo today was 409.7p/kg and this was for Texels from E Dodgson. Just behind was M&S Blease again with Texels selling to 407.1p/kg. Charollais topped at £193 for a pair from MA&M Richards. A pair of Texels from M Moorhouse made £190, with Texels from A Clark & Johnston also topping at £190. STORE CATTLE A new year and a Store Cattle trade that waste no time in finding its feet. The first Store Cattle sale of the year here at J36 set a highly encouraging tone for 2026. Buyers returned with confidence and a plethora of new buyers increased competition ringside resulting in a tremendous trade throughout. Today’s sale also included a show section which was kindly judged by Mr George Rome and sponsored by Carrs Billington, Skipton and Peregrine Asset Finance. British Blue and Simental bullocks also hit £2480 from Messrs RT Gorst and G & P Long respectively. Limousin heifers hit £2520 at 17 month old from Messrs M &L Preece who sold another at 15 months old for £2340. British Blue heifers reached £2460 from Messrs G & P Long.

OTM/CAST CATTLE A very pleasing market average of 256p/kg was achieved for all sold today with buyers ringside for all types and requiring more at each sale. The best beef cows sold to 379.5p/kg or £3195 for a Limousin x from PJ & ES Rogerson with the other half of the best end cows 310p/kg – 345p/kg or £2800 - £3100.
