NWA Lancaster once again proved to be a popular place, with new vendors in attendance drawn to the prompt and e icient Monday morning sale. All lambs are properly weighted on arrival with friendly unloading and hassle-free sorting. #LAMBS2LAM
PRIME LAMBS
Full buyer support today, keen to secure all classes and types, generating an overall market average of 351p/kg for lambs ranging from 33kg to 58kg. Buyers showing preference to well finished fed lambs, with these selling to a premium. Ahead of under finished grass-fed lambs, which were perhaps pinched a week or two too early.
Heavy weights sold to £208 from H Birket & Son for Texel cross, with endless pens of the lower heavy weight range £177 to £185. The best standard weights sold to £175 for Beltex cross from M Coxhead, with Texel cross £174 from KA Purtill and WS Burrow Ltd. Other better end standard weights were £162 to £170, with grass finished lambs £152 to £160. Lighter weight lambs were forward in greater numbers and predominantly o grass, selling to £155 for Beltex cross with other continental bred lambs to £140.


The first of the Swaledale lambs this season saw light weights from KM&KJ Curwen achieve £108 (35kg). Hill bred lambs are coming forward in greater numbers, with pure Cheviots to £171, North County Mules £153 and Masham £140. Other standard weight grass finished Mules were £128 to £136.
A pen full of Beltex cross lambs from WS Burow achieved 391p/kg, with others at 388p/kg from M Broadhurst, 381p/kg D&D Huddleston and 380p/kg M Coxhead. Wellbred and well finished lambs of all weights were generally 360p/kg to 380p/kg, with the best grass finished lambs 345p/kg to 358p/kg and the next draw down 330p/kg to
340p/kg.
Keep these lambs coming, 1000 plus lambs are required ever week to fulfil buyers requirements at Lancaster.

A larger entry of 149 ewes was forward today, as farmers look to o load passengers ahead of buying replacements, with all sold average £144. The best of the cross bred ewes sold to £200 for Texel cross from JM Sanderson, who sold others at £199 and £198 from KA Purtill, £191 A&E Clarkson and £190 H Birkett & Son. Other stronger cross bred ewes were £165 to £185, mediums £145 to £160 and a keen interest in feeding types at £115 to £135. Heavy North Country Mules sold to £179 from JM Sanderson, with Cheviot Mules to £177 from R Doran. Stronger Mules were £155 to £168, with mediums £140 to £150, with lighter harder worked £120 to £155. Pure hill ewes sold to £180 for Cheviots, with others £152 to £165. Swaledale sold to £126, Herdwicks £112 with Dalesbreds £104. Medium horned ewes were generally £80 to £100.

PRIME LAMBS
Lamb trade stands strong. No let up at Junction 36 with an overall average of 356p/kg, for the largest show of numbers so far this season.
A top price of £220 was achieved for a Texel from Messrs M&RW Stirzaker. The same good home had another at £217. PJ&ES Rogerson then had a pair of 54gk Texels which achieved £208. Su olks topped at £200 for a pen of four from WT Whitaker & Son. A smart pair of Texels from Messrs Atkinson, Stubbs Farm raced to 402.6p/kg with these weighing 39kgs. A pair of 40kgs sold for 392.5p/kg from JE D JER Wightman. Heavier types also adding up well with 44kg lambs from PJ&ES Rogerson making 389.8p/kg this was for a pen of eight. The same home also had two more in the mid 50kgs achieving 385.2p/kg.

Calves at Junction 36 surpass all other centres this week, selling to a market record of £1120. - 118 forward.
Bull calves were a flyer this week, with Junction 36’s calf sale going from strength to strength. Coming out on top today was an Inra 95 bull from AK&BM Robinson, Arkholme which flew away to a centre record of £1120. Also passing £1000 was J&B Morley, Appleby who’s British Blues reached £1010, with Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Threlkeld looking well sold at £830. Charolais bulls sold to £820 from JS&KM Wilson, Millom. A cracker of a Fleckvieh from AK&BM Robinson was next at £810, with Beef Shorthorn to £760 from SM&CL Bowe, Penrith. Younger month old sorts sold to £740 from A Pickthall, New Hutton or £710 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth both for British Blues with Aberdeen Angus to £540 from Strickland Hill Farming and two week old Limousin to £490 from B&MJ Nelson, Milnthorpe. A good trade for Black and Whites bulls sold to £640 and £620 both from AK&BM Robinson, Arkholme. Heifers did not disappoint with Aberdeen Angus topping at £810 and £800 both from Messrs Threlkeld, Burton in Kendal. AK&BM Robinson, Arkholme continued their good

days trading selling British Blues to £790, with others British Blue to £740 from CR Dickinson, Thurnham. STORE CATTLE
Trade goes the right way once again.
Demand for store cattle continues to delight vendors as buyers still flock ringside, despite a slightly quieter day on the whole and a mixy show of cattle forward.
An Aberdeen Angus bullock from T Pye topped today’s trading totalling at £2380. Then the same home sold a trio of Hereford steers hitting the £2330 mark. S&M Cooper sold Charolais bullocks up to £2140. Aberdeen Angus heifer also very much wanted, with a two year old pair selling for £2120 from GM Metcalfe. A nice Limousin heifer from A&B Pickthall made £1900 and a further Limousin heifer slightly younger from JT&S Armstead sold for £1850.

COWS
All classes and types of cull cows were in high demand, selling to an overall market average of 269p/kg. The best beef cows sold to 349p/kg for a Limousin cross from MA&JA Winn, with Stabilisers cross to 329p/kg from A Dixon & Son and Shorthorn cross to 324p/kg from J Twigge. The stronger end of beef cows were generally 290p/kg to 320p/kg, with feeding types 260p/kg to 280p/kg. Top grossing achieved £2617 for a Limousin cross from MA&JA Winn, with Aberdeen Angus cross from HMP Wymott £2543.
Dairy cows sold to 284p/kg for Black and Whites, with other parlour types were 245p/g to 260p/kg and top grossing being a Holstein Friesian from Strickland Hill Farming at £2252.
OTM beef heifers sold to 354p/kg and £2212 for a Stabiliser cross from A Dixon & Son, with dairy heifers to 309p/kg and £2021 from Jenkin Cragg Farms.
OTM beef steers sold to 284p/kg and £1900 for Aberdeen Angus cross, with stock bulls selling to 249p/kg and £2277 for a Limousin.

Calves continue their fine from at Lancaster, this week selling to £910 for an eight week old British Blue from Lawson Dairy LTD, Cockerham with other British Blue bulls from Throstle Nest Farms, Pilling. A nice run of Hereford’s from WN&D Smith, Cockerham saw bulls sell to £770 with Aberdeen Angus to £710 from J&G Thornley, Kirkham. Two week old bulls topped at £520 for a British Blue from MH&AR Robinson, Old Hutton. Heifers sold to £740 twice for British Blues from Lawsons Dairy and for Aberdeen Angus from AW&AM Park who sold a further two at £720. One month old British Blue heifers sold to £580 from Throstle Nest Farms or £540 from TL Baldwin, Forton. Two week old Charolais sold to £490 from GJ&G Billington, Myerscough. A few stirks followed selling to £990 for a five month old British Blue from AJ Metcalf who sold other British Blue heifers at £960 and £940.

Stores would be dearer on the week, as 34 lots surpassed £2400. Bullocks were very much in demand this week selling to a top of £2580 for a pen of three Charolais from J Lamb, Old Glasson with a pair of Aberdeen Angus cross from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham at £2520. British Blue bullocks sold to £2480 not once but elven times. Twice from J Lamb, six times from J Prest & Son and three times from J&H Bland & Son, Levens. Endless pens of bullocks were over £2300, with the best of the dairy bullocks this week to £2280 for a Fleckvieh from J&H Bland or £2020 for a Black and White from EE Thornton, Heaton. Heifers did not disappoint, selling to £2400 for a pair of British Blues from AT Burrow, Hornby with a further three to £2380 from J&H Bland & Son. Limousins sold to £2320 again from AT Burrow, Hornby. Native bred heifers topped at £2200 for Hereford cross from DR Preston, Caton and for Aberdeen Angus cross from EW&CR Clegg, Stalmine. Today’s sale averaged £2065.10.

OTM CATTLE
The weekly sale of OTM cattle saw numbers back over the 100 barrier, with a good show of meated OTM cattle and trade standing on from last week. A few more cast bulls about today, with SJ&CJ Handley, Westhouse topping the bottom ring at £3155 or 279.5p/kg for a Limousin bull. Other OTM bulls saw an Aberdeen Angus from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton at £2749. While Hereford bulls saw a top of £2621 or 279.5p/kg from JCH&JG Bland, Silverdale. OTM cows saw no let up in trade, with a Limousin cow to £2950 or 334p/kg from A&P Hodgkinson, Stalmine. Other beef OTM cows sold to £2266 or 279.5p/kg for Aberdeen Angus from Ballacutchel Farm, Isle of Man. Simmental cows sold to £2250 or 274.5p/kg from J Bargh, Heaton with other Simmentals from PJ&ES Rogerson to £2291 or 314p/kg. while British Blues sold to £2100 or 349.5p/kg from D&DW Prickett, Farleton.
Dairy bred OTM cattle made up half of the sale today, SH&M Batty, Quernmore achieved £2185 or 279p/kg for a Friesian, with others to £2075 from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield. All cows today averaged 260p/kg.
A good show of meat in the OTM heifer saw an average of 315p/kg. British Blues sold to £2586 or 369p/kg from PJ&ES Rogerson, Great Asby with other beef bred OTM’s to £2143 for Angus from O Butler, Esprick and Limousin to £2087 or 369p/kg from CD&HL Mason, Caton.
Dairy bred OTM heifers sold to £2170 from WA Ward, Slyne for Friesians. While other Friesians sold to £2169 from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield.
