Shearlings sold to £360 from MP & A Capstick, High Lane with pens at £320 from Messrs Wear, Howe Green and JA Alderson, Barras who sold others to £310 on two occasions. Shearlings averaged an impressive £245.94 (+ £52.63). Gimmer lambs saw pens to £200 and £195 from Fishwick Bros, Longsleddale with the run from Forest Hall topping at £160 on two occasions. The Champion and Reserve, both from Messrs Hoggarth at Birkhaw, the Reserve going for £215 for 3 crop ewes. The Champion pen which were shearlings went on to make £220 selling to Jamie Stamper, Shap. Topping today’s trade was VR Guy with his first prize pair making £280 Gimmer lambs were up £39 with an average of £111, topping at £150 from Wendy Moore. Trade surpassed all expectations. Ewes up £63 Shearlings up £75 Lambs up £39 A big thank you must go to all vendors and buyers for making the sale such a success and we look forward to seeing you at the next sale on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association sale on Saturday 10th October 2026 which is the sale of Rams. Following on from the Rough Fell sale was the sale of other breeding sheep. Cheviots dominated play with a strong entry forward and some good quality as well. Topping the market for ewes was S Crawford, Staveley at £245 for a pen of 10 and pen of 11. Special mention goes to KM & KJ Curwen who had a strong run of Hill type Cheviots that topped the shearling category at £229 and ewes topped at £237. Overall cheviots of all kinds averaged £208.
Herdwicks were strong in number and in good demand! They went on to average £180. Top price for these was £195 from J & GM Willis, Grayrigg. Herdwick gimmer lambs were in demand with the same firm achieving top price of £115. J36 Online Sale of Registered Fell Ponies on behalf of the Bracklinn and Drybarrows Studs. ONLINE SALE OF REGISTERED FELL PONIES ON BEHALF OF THE DRYBARROWS AND BRACKLINN STUDS The online sale on behalf of the Drybarrows and Bracklinn Studs concluded last night, with ponies been successfully sold from Aberdeenshire to Southampton and over the water to Denmark. The Sale topped with a very smart colt, Bracklinn Gambler at £5200 followed by Bracklinn Allstar at £3600. Fillies topped at £3200 for Bracklinn Ayda, a smart grey, with Bracklinn Edna at £3100. Bracklinn Clara a bay yearling filly went on to sell for £3000 Herefordshire. Drybarrows topped at £1950 twice for two very smart fillies in Drybarrows Lindale and Drybarrows Lakeland Lady both going to the same home in Lancashire. Drybarrows colts were headed by Drybarrows Leader selling at £1200 and going into Cheshire.

Monday 28th September 2026. PRIME LAMBS A similar entry of lambs was forward on the week this morning, with an improved trade throughout. Lambs ranged from 26kg to 58kg, averaging an impressive 353p/kg. Well-finished fed lambs were keenly sought after, with D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e, leading the market with a Beltex lamb at £220, with another Beltex reaching £218 from CD & HM Mason, Caton. GIMMER LAMBS Gimmer lambs in demand with buyers keen to get bought up as September draws to a close. Trade was on fire for Mule (NEMSA) lambs with an average of £157.49. The judging was undertaken by Mr Josh Wilson, who we would like to thank very much for his time and expertise. SUCKLER CALVES & STORE CATTLE The first annual show & sale of suckler calves of 2026 took place on Thursday the 1st of October and the heights of last year were maintained and exceeded for many with trade o the clock from the o set. A large number of store cattle followed and also saw a strong trade for a huge variety of types forward. The pre-sale show for calves was kindly and expertly judged by Mr. Jack Henshaw.

Suckler Bulls topped at £2380 for a Limousin from Messrs T W Gorst. Other suckler bulls sold to £2100 from Messrs J H Atkinson and £2000 for Blues from Messrs JF & C Saunders. Other steers in the suckler calf section sold to £1920 for Charolais from Messrs TM & D Dobson and £1820 for Limousins from Messrs W Atkinson. Limousin Heifers topped at £1840 from Messrs T W & C Shepherd for an 8-month-old. Charolais Heifers got to £1760 at 7-month-old from Messrs C & S Dickinson. A further Heifer from Messrs Shepherd also made £1760 at 6month-old. The fortnightly sale of store cattle followed the Suckler Calves and also fetched a strong trade despite a mixed show forward. Charolais Bullocks sold to £2,250 from Messrs J M Haddow. A further pen of five Charolais sold for £2180 from Messrs F A Brown & Son. Angus Bullocks hit £2170 again from Messrs Haddow, white Blue steers sold to £2140, twice from Messrs GE & MG Dixon at 18 months. A pair of Blues topped the Heifers section at £2140 from Messrs Haddow, and Angus Heifers sold to £2130 from Messrs GM Metcalfe Jnr.
