AUCTION MART RULES FOR VENDORS The Shepherd in charge must bring their respective lots forward, take them to and from the Sale Ring, attend until delivered and assist in trucking if required as the Auctioneers will be responsible only for what is delivered to the purchaser. Should the Shepherd not be in attendance at the time his lots fall to be sold, it will be passed over and taken at the end of Sale. All Stock will proceed in the order of the Catalogue and all lots not previously entered will be sold only when the list is finished. All purchases to be settled for and taken delivery of on the Day of Sale. No stock can be removed without a Pass. Purchasers should see that their Stock is correct before leaving the gates, as no deduction can be made afterwards. No Private Sales prior to the Stock being offered by Auction will be allowed or recognised by the Salesman. The usual commission must be paid on consignments sold privately within this Market. Every assistance in loading or keeping overnight, for the accommodation only of Buyers, will be arranged, as far as possible, by the Auctioneers, who will not be responsible for loss or damage incurred thereby.

From 1st April 2019 the Texel Sheep Society has been providing performance recording services directly to our membership. AHDB-Signet introduced the new National Terminal Sire (NTS) Evaluation this year for all terminal sires breeds within the UK. The Society has agreed to support this new evaluation by providing Pedigree Texel data and so NTS forms the base evaluation for British Texel flocks. When looking at rams EBVs in the catalogue this year please remember that the introduction of the new evaluation has caused some changes to the indexes and figures from what they have been previously. • The Terminal Sire Index and Traits have now been rebased EBVs and indexes have been rebased to the average Texel animal in 2010. You will find that all animals index will have ‘fallen’ in number. With Top 10% animals having an index of 210 compared with the 361 it was before the change. • Meat traits are now based on a fixed weight rather than age Animals now have their muscle/fat EBVs predicted for a fixed carcass weight rather than at a fixed age. ____________________________________________________
When buying a ram, buyers should use the breed benchmark to identify where an animals Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) rank within the breed. The aim of EBVs are to allow buyers to see how much of an animal’s performance is due to its breeding (genetics) and how much has been influenced by the environment that they have been kept in – management, feeding, farm location, housing etc An animal will pass on half of its genetic merit to its offspring. eg, if Ram A has a Scan Weight of +3.33 then his progeny at scanning will be over 1.5kg heavier than average

British Texel Breed Benchmark 2019 Remember EBVs and indexes have been rebased are now expressed relative to average Texel Sheep in 2010 Trait Terminal Sire Index Combines traits to allow breeders to select rams who will breed more profitable slaughter lambs Scan Weight (kg) Breeding Potential for growth, measured at scanning Rams with higher EBVs produce lambs that are heavier at time of ultrasound scanning Muscle Depth (mm) The amount of muscle present across the loin at a fixed carcass weight. Can be used to asses overall lean meat yield. Fat Depth (mm) The amount of fat present on a carcass at a fixed weight. The North West Texel Breeders Club Special Conditions of Sale All sheep to be Maedi Visna accredited flocks and must be accompanied by the relevant documentation. All female sheep MUST BE FULLY REGISTERED All sheep entries should clearly show whether the animal is single, twin, triplet, quad, etc. or ET and this information to be clearly shown in the Sale Catalogue. Adult sheep entered at Shows and Sales under the auspices of the Texel Sheep Society must be bare clipped after 1st April each year. All sheep will be subject to a club inspection. Any animal or group of animals, which do not reach the club standard, will not be eligible for sale. The decision of the inspectors will be final and any animal or group of animals failed will be removed from the sale and forfeit the entry fee and failure to accept the inspectors decision will result in the entire consignment being rejected. When an animal is referred to a Veterinary Surgeon, his decision will be final. No dressing, artificial whitening, clipping or excessive use of dips on the fleeces of sheep will be permitted. An inspector may be present at the sale with the authority to disqualify any sheep, which in his opinion, are below a minimum standard with regard to breed type or are found to be contravening the Society Bye-laws, right up to the point of sale. All sheep shall be penned by 9.30am Saturday 4th January, 2020. Inspections from 7am-9.30am. Judging to commence at 8.30am. Sale at 10.30am. The Society requires that all pedigree Texel sheep carry two different forms of identification, each clearly identifying the Society flock book number for that animal. Pedigree Texel’s can be identified with a tag plus a tattoo or two separate tags. Any animal with indistinct identification or carrying one form of identification will be rejected unless the Society has been notified in advance of the inspection and a dispensation certificate accompanies the animal to the point of inspection.

The categories of sheep offered for sale will be defined on the entry form. If any animal offered for sale has had embryos collected from it the number of embryos in storage must be declared at point of sale. The purchaser shall have no right to claim damages from the vendor in respect of indirect or consequential loss such as (but not limited to) loss of profit or any other loss whatsoever. The Texel Sheep Society reserves the right to blood sample any sheep and/or take wool samples for forensic testing. Prize winners at the show prior to sale, which subsequently leave the ring unsold, forfeit all trophies and prize money awarded. Once inspected, an animal must remain in the sale yard until offered for sale. All sheep sold in guineas. All sheep sold at sales organised by the Society recognised Clubs will be subject to the Society levy amounting to 0.5% of the gross sale price; in addition a levy of 0.5% will be collected by the Club and the Auctioneers Commission. All vendors must sign the declaration, agreeing to abide by the Club conditions of entry and conditions of sale, on the entry form. There will be a minimum bid price of 180gns for Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings; 150gns for Ewe Lambs, at the discretion of the vendor and auctioneer. Committee reserve right to limit numbers if oversubscribed. Scrapie Genotyping is no longer mandatory. If the Scrapie Genotyping is declared in the sale catalogue or at point of sale and subsequently found to be incorrect, for whatever reason, the purchaser shall have the right to return the animal and to claim the full purchase price from the vendor. All Sheep will be sold under Bye Laws governing sale of Texel Sheep Society and sold under General Conditions of Sale of LAM GDPR: North West Auctions will collect data and photographic/video records for each sale and may use this for marketing purposes including printed and electronic marketing including names and partial address of vendors and buyers.
