MONTHLY COLLECTIVE MACHINERY SALE This popular sale once again attracted nationwide interest with well maintained and seasonal equipment extremely well bid for and selling well.

Vehicles, plant and tractors sold to a top price of £15,100 for a JCB tracked digger with a CAT tracked digger at £7,400 and a Kubota mini digger at £5,300. A well-maintained Kubota compact tractor loader sold at £10,7000 and a Weidemann loader at £6,500.

Seasonal equipment sold to £4,700 for a Krone 2200 Mower, £4400 for a Lely Lotus Scaler, 8T Silage Trailer at £4000, £3600 for a Kverneland Disc Mower, £3200 for a Krone rake, FCT 900 forage harvester at £2000.

Trailers saw a 2008 Equitrek sell at £3400, Ifor Williams 10ft Livestock Trailer at £3300, Ifor Williams small livestock trailer at £3000, 10ft Ifor Williams Plant trailer at £2100.

Other items of interest included a portable sheep race at £3100, VW transporter at £2200, pasture topper at £1550, Tanco bale wrapper at £1350, wood processor at £980, cherry picker at £920, slurry stirrer at £760.

J36 Rural Auction Centre: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep & Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Tuesday 12th May 2026.

PIGS A large show of finished and cast pigs in today. Trade slightly stronger than the national average and topped out at £200 x2 from PK & R Woof, Kendal for some prime gilts weighing 93kg a piece.

Lighter weighted prime pigs were more saleable than prime pigs that are heavy weighted.

SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT 132 Families Averages: Singles: £114.38 Twins: £115.12 A much larger entry than expected this week with a large number of unentered families present.

Demand was pretty much split in half with bigger, fitter sheep with well grown lambs having the rub of the green and for this category of families, trade was possibly a touch

dearer. Topping the market today was a pen of Mule Shearlings with Texel Lambs from G & KM Atkinson, Green Farm, making £460 followed by a pen of the same goods at £450.

In the ewe category, the same firm topped at £400 for Mules with Texel Twins. Texels followed at £400 from GM Strong, Maulds Meburn and Messrs Bennison, Lazonby. The latter also having another pen at £390.

Hill Ewes were making more of an appearance today with a large show of Herdwicks, Swaledales and Hebrideans on o er. Single Swaledales topped at £165 for Broken Mouthed Ewes with Wether Lambs from Messrs Bennison and Hebrideans with pure Lambs made £175 from Messrs Frith, Shap.

SPRING LAMBS & PRIME HOGGS Thriving trade at Junction 36.

Prime hoggs to £260 and spring lambs to £244.

A lager show of both prime hoggs and prime lambs forward this week with a boiling hot trade to match.

Lambs kicked the day o in style hitting 510p/kg for Texels from AE Atkinson. The same good home selling further lambs to 490.5p/kg. Top price per head was for a good Hampshire lamb from IL Dixon selling for £244.

Hoggs hit £260 for a big Texel from N Barker. Other heavy weights from PJ&MR Stuart hit £250 and £245 for runs of Texels. Su olks topped at £243 from Coward Brothers. A fantastic run of hoggs from GM&A Jackson hit 462.5p/kg or £222 for a trio of Texels.

Herdwick hoggs topped at 423.8p/kg for a run of well fed types from Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre.

Weight very good to sell, along with anything fit while leaner o specification hoggs slightly harder to cash. An overall average of 396p/kg was met with demand heavily outweighing supply.

Bull calves sold to £940 for a British Blue from Messrs Ayrton, Bambers Farm with this good home selling 6 British Blue bulls to average £918.33. The first prize individual went on to top the heifer market making £1500 from FW Park, Crook.

Top price overall went to MW&M Hodgson, Swallowmire making £1540. Trade throughout was varied depending on specification, smaller cattle looked to be a flying trade, very best cattle were strong, cattle in the middle looked a touch easier. However, trade was still above other competitors.

STORE CATTLE Numbers and trade to match.

Store cattle numbers continue to increase here at J36 with a large presence of buyers, old and new, keen to buy despite the falling fat trade.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £2080 for a trio from Messrs Cuthbertson. Others sold to £2060 from Messrs C&AJ Woodhouse.

A more mixy show of cattle forward on the fortnight however, yearling types are still not seeing the drop quite as much as the bigger end. Young Limousin bullocks from Messrs NW&EM Mason selling for £1880 and even younger Blondes from Messrs SJ&NW Wood hitting £1840. British Blue heifers sold to £1890 from Messrs JA&CA Gibson and £1870 from Messrs FW Park. More cattle are required for our next sale in 2 weeks to fulfil continued demand around the ring. PEDIGREE CATTLE VIP treatment in trade for the quality on show.

Pedigree beef at J36, the icing on the cake for another tremendous day’s trading. A cracking clearance rate and a solid trade right through especially for the top end.

Limousin bull Overthwaite VIP from Messrs RS & BA Harker stole the show and topped the sale selling for 9000gns. Another Limousin bull from this quality run hit 6000gns.

Charolais bulls topped at 5500gns for a fantastic bull from Messrs D&V Cornall.

Limousin bulls hit 4500gns for a quality young bull from Messrs R Heap. Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and Shorthorns were also on show and selling well. BEEF BREEDING CATTLE A select few breeding cattle were forward with trade very respectable for all. Heifers with calves sold to £3150 for a British Blue heifer with a Limousin bull calf at foot from Messrs Slinger & Eaton, Sedbergh who sold others to £3000. Cows with calves sold to £2650 for a first cross Limousin with calf from AW & AM Clarke, Troutbeck.

11th June sees the next sale of beef breeding cattle of cows and heifers with calves at foot where we already have multiple consignments of various breeding cattle entered.

Top pence per kilo was 329.5p/kg for a Limousin cow from CI Briggs with Galloway OTM Heifers to 294.5p/kg from Messrs Beaty, Windermere. Black and whites were 279.5p/kg

CALVES Pens full to bursting this morning with 124 forward. Top today achieving £1040 was a Charolais Bull from G & ME Woodhouse & Son with others achieving £1000. Also selling at £1000 was a Blue Bull from GP Stott. Stronger rearing Bull calves £700 to £800, Mediums £580 to £650 with several younger 2 week old Bulls £320 to £400.

Heifer calves peaked at £860 for a Blue from GP Stott with others £800 for J & CW Metcalfe & Son. Stronger Heifers £620 to £700, Mediums £500 to £580 with youngest £220 to £280.

54 weaned calves followed the rearing calves with a pen of 9 month old Blue Steers selling at £1260, 10 month old Angus Steers £1260, 6 month old Blue Bulls £1150, 9 month old Hereford Heifers £920 and 7 month old Black & White Bulls £840.

STORE CATTLE Todays sale featured the May Day Grass Day Show & Sale for Young Stores which was Kindly Judged by Mr C Watkinson, Newton-Le-Willows with the sale sponsored by Towers & Gornall.

The Championship rosette was awarded to the first prize Heifer from A&V&A Thornton who enjoyed a good day also receiving the Reserve Championship Rosette for a Limousin Steer. The award for the best pen of 4 or more was won by A & B Smith showing a pen of 6 Charolais Steers.

OTM/CAST CATTLE A trade very similar to previous weeks with a top price of 289.5p/kg for a Charolais from JE Bracken and a Limousin from JE Parkinson & Son, other better end of the beef feeding type cows 250p/kg to 275p/kg. Top grossing was another Charolais from JE Bracken totalling £2462.

Dairy cows peaked at 264.5p/kg for a heavy Black & White from J & G Thornley Ltd with others to £1856 from Kelsall & Wood. Parlour cows generally 220p/kg to 240p/kg.

A single Black & White Cull Bull sold at 269.5p/kg from Raby Farms.

Friday at Lancaster continues to be a popular outlet for Prime Cattle with OTM Angus Heifers from Cowell & Moore selling to 314.5p/kg and £2170. Dairy Heifers to 309.5p/kg for Flekvieh and £1874 for Black & Whites.
