Few people are as well known in Ulverston as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

After more than four decades of service to healthcare in the town and beyond, Dr Gerry Murray will hang up his stethoscope as he retires later this year.

Known for his friendly and caring approach, Dr Murray has been a driving force for good since moving to Ulverston in 1985. He has helped generations of patients with everything from minor ailments to life-changing conditions – always with compassion; always with a reassuring smile.

The town’s health centre, now vital to so many, was born out of a vision shared by Dr Murray and his partners – to create a multi-disciplinary hub for local care. As Ulverston led, other towns followed.

But his influence has reached far beyond his practice. Dr Murray has held key roles on numerous healthcare and community bodies, championing improved services, better access, and consistently high standards.

Dr Murray has earned the deep respect of colleagues, patients and the community. His enduring presence in Ulverston’s medical community stands as a testament to a life devoted to the well-being of others.

A doctor, a leader, and a gentleman – Ulverston has been lucky to have him.
