ver wanted to have a gordita, a quesabirria and Kansas City barbecue all in the same sitting? Head to downtown KCK next month, do all that in style and finish off with a local cocktail at Flavors of Central Tour.. Tour The annual food tour featuring the cuisine of Central Ave. and surrounding areas in Kansas City, Kan., returns next month. A group of 25 bars and restaurants from the area will serve not only the Mexican food famous from the area and long standing local favorite Chinese food from neighborhood favorite Tao Tao, Tao, but also venues adjacent to Central Avenue, like the Mockingbird Lounge and the 403 Club Pinball Lounge. “Many residents were talking about the fact that they see these new businesses popping up on Central [Avenue],” Edgar Galicia, Central Area Betterment Association executive director, said. “It’s not that they’re scared, but they don’t … feel like they could explore.”
The Association began to introduce the businesses through video features where owners would share their story. “That started breaking the ice. We looked for other ways to get this conversation,” he said, which resulted in the Flavors of Central Tour food tour’s debut in 2019. The food tour started as a ticketed event in 2019 to 100 people. With the exception of the pandemic-prompted hiatus in 2020, the event has continued to expand its attendee total over the years. This year, 200 tickets will be offered for the Flavors of Central Tour. Tour. El recorrido gastronómico anual que presenta la cocina de Central Ave. y sus alrededores en Kansas City, Kansas, regresa el próximo mes. Un grupo de 25 bares y restaurantes del área servirá no sólo la comida mexicana famosa del área y la comida china local favorita desde hace mucho tiempo del favorito del vecindario Tao Tao, sino también lugares adyacentes a Central Avenue, como el Mockingbird Lounge y el 403 Club Pinball Lounge. “Muchos residentes estaban hablando sobre el hecho de que ven estos nuevos negocios surgiendo en Central [Avenue]”, comentó Edgar Galicia, Director Ejecutivo de la Asociación de Mejoramiento del Área Central. “No es que tengan miedo, pero no… sienten que podrían explorarlos”.
