WHILST I FULLY APPRECIATE FELLOW COMMITTEE MEMBERS “have my back”. As a complete newbie, I was hoping for encouragement and support from some of the other 330 of you. My Sunbeam ownership has always been one of trying to keep as many

Sunbeams on the road as possible. But now I find myself devoting my enthusiasm; time and money to YOU and its bloody hard work!

We placed a full-page plea in the last magazine. Asking for your help to provide a suitable car and/or assistance with our first event of the year. Response nil. We provided a code to be quoted when buying tickets; enabling discount on entrance and parking. Response nil.

However, despite your total lack of enthusiasm. Preparations for the NEC in March are all but there. I’d very much like to sincerely thank Richard for helping transport and set-up for me on the Thursday. I’m sure he thought I was and should oversee the hot potato now and so his, and the other committee members, offer to help, is above and beyond. Thank you all.

Our second outing of the year is Castle Donnington at the end of April. The Donnington Festival is on all weekend, but we are only there on the Sunday; in the hope we can consolidate a good attendance. This will be the first time in 2023 you have an opportunity to display your Sunbeam on a SLOC stand. Donnington Historic Festival have decided (not us) to offer all club members displaying their Sunbeam on the SLOC stand a 50% discount. This offer does NOT apply for members attending without a Sunbeam.

Please go to https://www.doningtonhistoric. com/how-to-book---registered-clubs which will allow your Sunbeam and one passenger to be on the club display. The next thing to do, is let me know you’ve booked. I’ve provisionally asked for ten car spaces, but this can be increased if I notify D.H.F. by 31st March. The web site will also help with where it is; what time to arrive and will there be any toilet roll in the porta loos. This is the most northern SLOC event I’m organising and so I hope we can put a serious and sensible display of Sunbeams out for that day please.

I appreciate our AGM on the 27th May, at Club Lotus Track Day, is already on your calendar and in your phone. This is a twoline whip day. Not only can you have a fantastic day at Castle Combe, but entrance courtesy of Club Lotus is completely free. The only charge will be if you wish to take your car on the track. Gates open at 07:30hrs. The track opens at 09:00hrs. The AGM starts at 14:00hrs in the drivers’ briefing room. Please take this opportunity to have your say in the future of your club and call me a Knobber to my face.

You may have noticed that Rally Day in September is missing from the above list. Last year Rally Day was in September; I assumed it would be again; but they’ve moved it to Saturday 1st July? Now it wouldn’t be impossible for us to squeeze this in, but do you want to support it? A Club Stand ticket is £27.50 or Club Member ticket £30, admitting your car and one passenger. Sunbeams and other Lotuses on the club stand. Everything else in the public car park. BUT are you seriously interested. I must register our interest with Castle Combe and commit to at least six Club Stand cars. If you are interested?
