Nearly 16K served in Hoover ERâs 1st year Staff at Medical West freestanding facility doubles from 65 to 130 to meet demands By JON ANDERSON When Consuela Dambrinoâs 13-year-old daughter started having severe pain in her side in October, Dambrino was thankful to have the new
Medical West freestanding emergency department just down the road from their Southpointe neighborhood. Not only was it close by and they could avoid a 20- to 30-minute drive into Birmingham, but
there also was no wait to see a doctor, and the doctors and staff were attentive to her daughterâs needs, she said. âOur experience was great,â Dambrino said. âEverybody was very nice, very calm. No one was ever in a hurry, or dismissive or aggravated to be at work.â The staff even provided copies of the images from her daughterâs scan tests on a CD to take with them, she said.

Because of her daughterâs condition, the Dambrinos have since been back to the Medical West emergency department off John Hawkins Parkway about ďŹve more times, and each time they have received the same great service, Dambrino said. It beats an emergency room experience

Hoover City Dad Brigade projects over the past year have included painting, landscape maintenance, simple repairs and constructing garden beds. Photo by Ron Burkett.
My take on it is: Involved dads equal successful children.

DENNIS Back-to-school DONNELLY cleanup has become a lot easier thanks to the Hoover City Dad Brigade. Since they began last year, the ranks of the Hoover City Dad Brigade have swelled to the point that more than 600 volunteers are expected to take part in this yearâs cleanup project. Like last summer, the group will not only tackle various âspruce upâ chores at the cityâs 10 elementary schools but also will take on Hooverâs three middle schools â Berry, Bumpus and Simmons â plus Brockâs Gap Intermediate. Studentsâ dads, grandfathers, uncles and other father ďŹgures will gather July 23 at Home Depot on Galleria Circle for a 6:45 a.m. Chick-ďŹl-A breakfast and to be assigned their school and tasks, which could range from painting to pressure washing to toting furniture.
