Rediscover Reading: Your Path to Exploration
Rediscover Reading: Your Path to Exploration
March is National Reading Month, a time to reflect on how reading shapes curiosity, discovery and growth. Reading is not only about information or achievement. It is a way to explore new ideas, unfamiliar perspectives and interests that evolve over time. Through our Rediscover Reading initiative, this month’s theme invites readers of all ages to follow their curiosity and see where reading can lead.

Exploration through reading looks different for everyone. For some, it begins with rediscovering the joy of choice. When readers are free to browse, sample and move on from books that do not connect, reading becomes an act of curiosity rather than obligation. That freedom encourages experimentation and helps readers discover what truly interests them.
Reading outside familiar genres or formats can open unexpected paths. A reader drawn to fiction may find inspiration in narrative nonfiction or essays. Someone who prefers contemporary stories might explore history or folklore and discover new ways of understanding the present. Stepping slightly outside a comfort zone invites deeper engagement and keeps reading fresh and rewarding. Curiosity also grows when reading is shared across generations. When adults model exploration by talking about what they are curious about or what surprised them in a book, children learn that reading is a lifelong journey. Libraries support this process by offering spaces where browsing, discovery and exploration are encouraged without pressure or cost.
Let questions guide your reading. Choose books based on interests rather than categories and allow yourself to explore new formats, topics or voices.
Step outside your usual reading habits. Exploring unfamiliar genres or perspectives can refresh your relationship with reading and spark new interests.
Wandering the shelves or digital collections often leads to surprising discoveries. Exploration thrives when readers are free to browse and experiment.
Libraries play a vital role in supporting exploration by providing access, opportunity and space for discovery. They invite readers to explore freely, learn continuously and follow paths shaped by curiosity rather than expectation.
This March, Rediscover Reading by exploring where stories can take you. Every book opens a new path and every reader’s journey is their own.

Reading is better when it is shared. Palm Beach County Library System’s Book Club in a Bag makes it easy for friends, families and community groups to come together around a great story with minimal planning.

PBCLS offers a wide variety of kits for adults, children and teens, featuring diverse titles to suit many interests. Select kits are also available in Large Print and en español, ensuring accessible and inclusive reading experiences for everyone. Whether you are launching a new book club or refreshing an existing one, Book Club in a Bag turns reading into a shared journey. Browse available titles, reserve a kit and start your next discussion at pbclibrary.org.

Women’s History Month celebrates the achievements, resilience and influence of women who have shaped history and continue to impact our world today. Across cultures and centuries, women have led scientific breakthroughs, driven social and political change, created powerful works of art and literature and strengthened communities in lasting ways. Many of these contributions were made despite barriers that limited recognition, education or opportunity.
Women’s History Month shines a light on both well-known pioneers and unsung trailblazers whose stories deserve to be told. By exploring these histories, we gain a deeper understanding of the past and a clearer vision for a more inclusive future. Learning about women’s accomplishments also inspires new generations to pursue leadership, creativity and innovation in their own lives.
