John Quincy Adams (1767–1848),

sixth U.S. President and son of John Adams, was a diplomat who negotiated the Treaty of Ghent and served as Secretary of State, shaping the Monroe Doctrine. As president, he promoted infrastructure and education. Later, he served in Congress, opposing slavery.

Louisa Adams (1775–1852),

wife of President John Quincy Adams, was the first First Lady born abroad. Born in London, she faced personal challenges, including a perilous journey during the Napoleonic Wars, to support her husband’s career. As First Lady, she hosted influential events and enriched Washington’s cultural life.
