Writers LIVE!, the Library’s flagship author event series, returns for another season of bringing the community together with authors and their books.
Visit www.pbclibrary.org/writers-live-2025 for the most up-to-date schedule and event registration.

Wealth Health Month
April is National Financial Literacy Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of financial education and smart money management. The Library offers a diverse range of activities and resources to support financial well-being in Palm Beach County. Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to assess their financial health, access expert guidance and enhance their money management skills. Look through Happenings for the icon to find related activities or visit us online at www.pbclibrary.org.
Volunteering Changes Lives
Our volunteers bring passion and dedication to the Palm Beach County Library System, making a daily impact. A key role they fill is tutoring for the Adult Literacy Project, a one-on-one program helping adults improve reading, writing or English-speaking skills.
In Palm Beach County, 22% of adults struggle with basic literacy, and one in five students speaks a language other than English at home. With 46 students on our waiting list, we urgently need tutors, especially at the Main Library, and the Greenacres, Lantana, Okeechobee and Wellington branches.
We offer online tutor training and a required two-hour in-person orientation. Tutors meet with students once or twice a week for 90 minutes at the Library, with free materials provided.
Volunteering changes lives. If you’re interested, call 561-894-7510 or email literacy@pbclibrary.org.
The titles on this list are on order for the Library and can be reserved, but will not be available until the release date.

Did you know?
Passover, or Pesach, begins at sundown on April 12 and ends at nightfall on April 20, 2025. It commemorates the Israelites’ liberation from slavery and the “passing over” of destruction that spared their firstborns. The holiday is marked by removing leavened products, eating matzo and retelling the Exodus story during the Seder.
Recognizing diverse holidays fosters inclusivity, promotes learning and strengthens community connections. Celebrating traditions at the Library encouraged understanding and demonstrates respect for diverse backgrounds, reinforcing our mission to connect, inspire and enrich lives.

Holocaust Remembrance: A Beacon of Education and Reflection
Holocaust Remembrance is a solemn reminder of humanity’s darkest chapters—a time when six million Jews and countless others were systematically murdered. Holocaust remembrance honors victims and survivors and also confronts the grim consequences of hatred, prejudice and indifference. The Holocaust is a reminder why fostering meaningful conversations about justice, tolerance and the value of diversity are imperative.
Libraries are vital pillars in Holocaust education by providing access to survivor testimonies, historical documents and scholarly research. Libraries amplify awareness and understanding of the Holocaust, ensuring that its lessons remain part of our collective conscience. In an era of disinformation, libraries serve as defenders of truth. They empower communities with accurate information and critical thinking tools to identify and reject historical distortions or denialism.
Holocaust Remembrance is more than a reflection on the past. We carry forward the torch of remembrance, building a society that treasures empathy, equality and the promise of “never again.”
