WELCOME

to the Fall Issue of Local Getaways Express! Fall might just be my favorite time of year in the Bay Area. September and October bring our version of Indian Summer, with some of our warmest days and one last excuse to stretch out summer a little longer. And this fall, the Bay Area is going to be especially busy; San Francisco will welcome hundreds of thousands of additional visitors for conventions including the Pokémon World Championships. Add in Fleet Week and the San Francisco Air Show, with the Blue Angels roaring overhead, and there are plenty of things to do around the Bay. Sonoma is also one of my favorite easy weekend escapes, especially during harvest season. Food, wine, charming hotels and a downtown made for wandering make it ideal for an escape. Closer to home, Marin County is made for fall jaunts, with everything from coastal hikes and beach towns to great restaurants and hidden gems. And don’t overlook San Ramon and the Tri-Valley, where you’ll find beautiful fall scenery, hiking, wineries and more to explore. Then October arrives with pumpkin patches and spooky attractions, followed quickly by November and the start of the holiday season. Suddenly we’re thinking about shopping local, festive events and spending time with friends and family. This issue of Local Getaways Express is meant to remind you that you don’t have to go far to have a great getaway. Pick a place, try something new and get out there. See you around! NIKKI C. WOOD Co-Founder/Group Publisher nikki@localgetaways.com

IN THE KNOW

Fall 2026

We Asked.

Selina Galarza Answered. Best fall activities?

Where to eat?

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park. It’s a free annual event in October that attracts both locals and visitors alike, featuring outstanding live music in one of the city’s most iconic settings.

My favorite new restaurant to recommend is The Happy Crane in Hayes Valley. It has quickly become one of the city’s most sought-after reservations, offering a creative take on Chinese cuisine with beautifully executed dishes.

“ Lands End is always at the top of my list.” Best family-friendly activities? Fleet Week is always a hit with children. You can also head to Golden Gate Park with little ones and enjoy the California Academy of Sciences, Koret Children’s Quarter playground and the park’s famed carousel.

Best fall hikes? Lands End is always at the top of my list. It’s a coastal trail offering stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean and the Marin Headlands, especially around sunset. ABOUT SELINA: Selina Galarza is a San Francisco native and Peninsula resident. She’s been with The St. Regis San Francisco since 2005 and worked as a concierge there since 2011. She also currently serves as Vice President of the Northern California Concierge Association (NCCA) and as a member of Les Clefs d’Or USA.

An Iconic Location with World-Class Views Nestled at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge in national parklands just minutes from San Francisco, the MICHELIN Two-Key awarded and LEED Gold certified Cavallo Point Lodge features panoramic bay, bridge, and city views. Guests can enjoy exceptional dining throughout the property, including Farley, with seasonal cocktails and live music every Wednesday evening from local musician John Vicino. The lodge also offers the renowned Healing Arts Center & Spa, a hands-on cooking school, an art gallery, hiking, yoga, and a myriad of activities. An extraordinary experience for couples, families, individuals and groups.

IN THE KNOW

Fall 2026

We Asked.

Charmaine Louzao Answered. Hotel Healdsburg’s concierge on how to spend the fall in Wine Country. Fall family activities?

Favorite bars to recommend?

Fall is perfect for strolling the Plaza, exploring local parks, enjoying the Saturday farmers’ market and experiencing harvest season.

Some of my top picks include The Rooftop at Harmon Guest House, Roof 105 at The Matheson and the upstairs bar at Goodnight’s Prime Steak + Spirits.

Favorite local fall events? Celebrate harvest season at Healdsburg Crush (Oct. 11) or enjoy an invitation for shopping, wine tasting, and festive cheer at the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sip & Shop event (Dec. 1).

Courtesy of Hotel Healdsburg

“ Fall is perfect for strolling the Plaza.” Must-try restaurants? Some of my favorite recommendations include Dry Creek Kitchen, The Rooftop at Harmon Guest House, Folia at Appellation Healdsburg and the Michelin-starred offerings of Cyrus.

Best shopping? I love sending guests to The Olive Press for California olive oils and gourmet gifts, Maison Fiori for beautiful home décor and unique gifts, and Punch Clothing.

Best places for a “true taste” of Healdsburg? Number one is the Healdsburg Farmers’ Market. For wine, try Aesthete Winery. Harvest season itself is magical, with many wineries offering seasonal experiences. ABOUT CHARMAINE: Originally from Southern California, Charmaine Louzao has spent nearly two decades in Sonoma County hospitality. She is a proud member of the North American Concierge Association and currently represents Healdsburg as concierge at Hotel Healdsburg. 33 | localgetaways.com
