OBJECTIVE Create a new visual identity, application system, and standard manual for Air China Limited. It is a design that communicates their background to the customers with traditional Chinese cultural elements and a more international perspective.

APPROACH

Create a new visual recognition scheme for Air China. In order to highlight the new image of connecting with the world without losing Chinese characteristics in the new era, I wish to extract elements from Chinese traditional art and culture, combine them with the design language matching the brand, and bring new face and vitality to China International Aviation. In the design, I used a cloud pattern from the traditional Chinese culture as the basic element and logo, and integrated some details of Chinese calligraphy to highlight the cultural background and characteristic of China International Aviation. I used bold gradients and saturated colors to make them different from the old red and blue colors that Air China had copied from Pan Am. I believe that these changes will attract consumers and lay a really solid foundation for the brand expansion of Air China. In terms of writing, I used a more concise and modern English typeface than before, and retained the Chinese title inscribed by Deng Xiaoping to give a nod to the original design. The new typeface, Ageo, more harmonious and pop out with the pattern and logo.

OBJECTIVE To create a hypothetical cook book and direct a visual concept based on the specific subject. Show the ability to create a cohesive layout which can flexibly fit with various contents. Execute the concept of visualization.

The goal is to have complete elements for the magazine which include at least five different articles, table of contents, chapter openers, and a fully designed cover.

APPROACH

If a geek who likes to study is going to challenge himself in the kitchen, what possibilities will he discover? With this question, I began to design this cookbook. Unlike ordinary cook books, I hope to add some cool electronic and retro game-related elements to the book, so as to distinguish it from the common cookbooks full of beautiful pictures and boring articles that are on the market. I photo-manipulated the pictures to give them a gaming aesthetic, so the readers can follow the recipe like a guide to a game. The hope is that a reader will get a visual impact beyond ordinary cooking books, and feel "Wow, I'm doing something really cool." In this book, I selected twelve recipes that are really basic, so that readers can easily start cooking and learn how to cook and some unexpected and interesting knowledge.

APPROACH

SELECTED WORKS 17-20

As a long-established Swiss chocolate brand, I want to design a new package set for it to highlight its unique taste and style native to Switzerland. Comparing with Toblerone's classic light yellow color packaging, I integrated more representative elements of Swiss scenery, and used flat design language to reflect the fresh and simple Swiss design style. In the design of three different flavors of toberone chocolate, I designed three different views of Swiss snow mountains. These three illustration can be understood as midnight, noon and sunset in the day, as well as winter, midsummer and golden autumn. I hope consumers will be brought into real Switzerland and experience the different customs and charms of Switzerland through these different sceneries, At the same time, I kept the triangular box unique to toblerone chocolate, and made it connect seamlessly to the snow mountain image. It couldn’t be seen the end of the snow mountain no matter how you flip it. This is also the unforgettable impression of the endless snow mountains in Switzerland. In the design of larger wholesale box, I still continue the design of snow mountains and die cut the shape of snow mountains.

The lid can be removed after chocolates are placed on the shelf. The snow mountains on the outside box and on the inner box merge into one to achieve a consistent visual effect.

This project aims to create a experimental visual book for the Hayes Valley community, which reflects the brand new look of Hayes Valley after re-planning and design: a new community full of culture and vitality.

Before designing this book, we used a long time to explore and experience this community. In our exploration, we were deeply infected by the vitality and friendliness of this ideal community for the younger generation.

In the design part of this book, we chose blue and orange color as representatives of this community, which is the representative color of this community: blue represents the sky and a healthy lifestyle, and orange represents passion and a vibrant crowd. The book is divided into three chapters: life, art and fun, which explain the face and culture of the entire community from three different perspectives. At the same time, in all parts of the book, we used interesting details we photographed from the cornersof the community, and we hope that these details can let readers experience the community immersive.

OBJECTIVE Choose an existing sport brand and develop a new identity systemm consider the target audience and develop the concept based on your marketing research.

APPROACH SELECTED WORKS 17-20

Double Happiness Sports is one of the few top ping-pong equipment providers in the world. It still needs to improve its brand and visual identity system. The goal of this project is to create a professional brand identity for Double Happiness in line with its international positioning.

First, after investigating and researching other professional brands, I established a design direction focusing on concise text, graphics, and lines. Secondly, because of the professionalism and speciality of the Double Happiness brand in the field of ping-pong, I decided to use the graphics related to ping-pong as the logo. Finally, considering the international expansion of the brand, I decided to use English name as part of the logo. After repeated deliberation, I decided to use the graphic of the bouncing ball as the logo. Through the simple geometric overlay and the heavy weight of DHS text, the brand logo was finally designed. In terms of visual system, it could get better visual effects and make the bouncing ball more vivid and specific by putting the logo near the edge of the carrier.

But who knows how hard the workers endured the pain when they build the Great Wall. With these stories, I designed the game 10000 MILES. In the game, players can play as Great Wall builders and experience the difficulty and challenge of building this historical wonder. In the design, I used 3d printing technology on chess pieces, chess boards and other appliances, which making playing this game as if players were actually building the Great Wall, to give players an unprecedented immersive feeling. By using the 3D modeling technique, I can well present characters and buildings in a three-dimensional way. This is a great improvement for relying on the plane surface approach only.

The game boards use hexagon as basic modules so players can increase or decrease the size of the game board based on the number of players. Each modules represents a kind of terrain, which is modeled realistically and 3D printed. On the box, I used the iconic red and gold to give the game packaging a strong Chinese flavor. In the pattern, I used the simplified Great Wall pattern with the lines symbolizing the sun light and arrow beams, so that players of any cultural background will not feel isolated, and easily start this game.

In the design, I used 3d printing technology on chess pieces, chess boards and other appliances, which making playing this game as if players were actually building the Great Wall, to give players an unprecedented immersive feeling. By using the 3D modeling technique, I can well present characters and buildings in a three-dimensional way. This is a great improvement for relying on the plane surface approach only.

The game boards use hexagon as basic modules so players can increase or decrease the size of the game board based on the number of players. Each modules represents a kind of terrain, which is modeled realistically and 3D printed. On the box, I used the iconic red and gold to give the game packaging a strong Chinese flavor. In the pattern, I used the simplified Great Wall pattern with the lines symbolizing the sun light and arrow beams, so that players of any cultural background will not feel isolated, and easily start this game.

But who knows how hard the workers endured the pain when they build the Great Wall. With these stories, I designed the game 10000 MILES. In the game, players can play as Great Wall builders and experience the difficulty and challenge of building this historical wonder.
