ULTRAMARINE 2020–2023
Jingjing Zhao, MA
Risking everything, I create In a color that no one but me can use Continuing to run night and day The blue light that I found Facing up to something that you love Is, even now, very scary, but I am no longer that weak, transparent person from that day Now I am irreplaceable and true to myself

Our objective is to break away from the strong association between light novels and anime and to approach the design with inspiration from conventional novels. This approach aims to make popular novels accessible to a broader audience, including regular readers. 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 C H A P T E R 3 C U LT U R E M I X T U R E

Diverging from regular light novels, we employ a heavy typeface for visual prominence and also contrast it with subtler, lighter Japanese typeface to retain its original essence. Additionally, we incorporate subtle visual cues to represent the main character, adding a touch of uniqueness to the design.
