Gosh it’s hard to be a cowgirl

When you’re the Prez’dent of the Symphony

All day you’re always on the telephone and You never have an evenin’ free Ya gotta charm, cajole, flatter and flirt

With everyone you see Dang, it’s hard to be a cowgirl when When you’re the Prez’dent of the Symphony

Pacifyin’ all those maestros

There’s a job that’s dusk ‘till dawn

They like to stay up all night a-braggin’ ‘bout

Just who’s got the biggest baton

I’d like to go home to my buckaroo and Frilly pink boudoir

Instead of jabberin’ ‘bout our latest plan

Expandin’ standard repertoire

The Symphony musicians sure are great And wired, inspired and strange

It’s just the way you get from ridin’ nights

Out on the musical range

But when they lasso that big schmaltzy tune

With all their industry and art

It knocks me off my feet and hogties all The cockles of my happy heart

BRIDGE

Cause it's the music

Beautiful music

That lets my spirit soar free

Yes it's the music

Symphony music

That makes it all worthwhile for me

Them artists sure are temperamental and You gotta make ‘em feel at home

You gotta say “Bonjour!”

Or “Guten tag!” Konichiwa!” or “Shalom!”

But if you say something wrong, then look out girl

‘Cause at the mouth they’ll start to foam

You’ll wish you’d stayed at home a-singin’ Johnny Cash Or dancin’ to a metronome

When virtuosos come to town

They bring their retinues in tow

You gotta find out what they like to do

And tell ‘em where they oughta go

And if the critics trash ‘em, then my dear

For sure you must apologize

And stage a shoppin’ spree for all

Their girlfriends, boyfriends, moms and wives

Now evey sponsor thinks that he knows best

What his bequest should be used for

For playin’ “Tea for Two”

For a new brass kazoo

Or tone po’ms about Mount Rushmore

You gotta keep agreein’ with them ‘til They’re purrin’ and feelin’ fine

And stuff ‘em full of gourmet foods and All your husband’s vintage wine

When Symph’ny Gala time comes rollin’ ‘round

Your every hour gets tense and tough

You gotta think up spankin’ new fun things

And pray that they’ll be enough

You gotta corral all them caterers

And decorate a fancy room

And then a-worry yourself half to death

About who’s sittin’ next to whom

That lets my spirit soar free Yes it's the music

Symphony music

Now when yer goin’ to the Symphony

Ya gotta mind yer Ps and Qs Ya gotta help the men-folk stay awake

And poke ‘em if they start to snooze

At intermission you can meet yer friends, and Raise a little lovin’ cup

Cuz even if they’re playin’ requiems

Ya gotta keep your spirits up
